    In Australia Boss RV-5 $250, Behringer DR600 $59. Boss is ripping us all off. Thankfully there is a company like Behringer that makes pedals at a sensible price. No one in the audience is going to tell the difference. If you are recording, you use a reverb in your DAW. I don't think I will ever buy another Boss pedal.

I yse them for table top synth gigs, I don't need a plastic case, it's a second reverb, as I also need wacky, so a Berry all day for me. So here are my two thoughts. I put my £80 headphones, hit play, and didn’t watch the screen. All I could hear was nice reverb sounds. Maybe if my headphones were worth £400 things would’ve been different, or if I had these two pedals playing live in front of me. But, speaking of live, we’ve all been to live concerts where the sound was much more terrible and we still enjoyed it. The Behringer is so cheap that I can buy it to test it - and then buy the Boss (or another) later on when I can, and compare them as well. If I end up getting bored with the Behringer, I can always give it to a friend later on, to motivate them unhang their guitar from the wall. Thank you for your to-the-point video!

      @@ignaciolau5445 Not reverse. I think it has chorus on it. Putting chorus on the reverb but leaving the original signal intact is a fine way to add colour to the sound. In this case it's a little bit indistinct but I think that's what's going on. The pedal is so cheap, I'd recommend taking a chance on it. There are many reverb units that people use for shoegaze, this won't be the best you'll ever encounter, but I say give it a go whilst you're saving up for a Strymon or something.

    • @stuartchapman5171
      @stuartchapman5171 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Ignacio Lau whilst thus doesn't have a reverse reverb on it, it can still be useful for shoegaze. It depends on how you want to build your sound. The plate is good and although the modulation doesn't stand up to the exceptional Boss algorithm its still a good sound. If you wanted to stack reverb, ie one before the fuzz and one at the end of your chain this could be useful. Reverb tends to be an expensive effect, this could be a helpful way if adding a drop of standard reverb sounds to a board that already has reverb. Whilst I'm here, tge Polara is is good but the reverse is extreme, being always 100% wet, whilst useable it tends to destroy signals, I us it in sound design, but I wouldn't use it if I were a musician

    Only use this with a Vox MV50 I got cheap, sounds good, havent gigged it yet, because of Covid, but a touch of reverb from the DR600 makes it sound really nice through a 2*12. TBH, dont get all the comments about standing up to abuse on stage, honestly, almost every Guitarist sets up the reverb in the soundcheck and never changes it, my primary Amp is a Marshall, and I use the Reverb built in or when Covid ends I might try the Boss Katana out I bought, which has umpteen reverbs built in, including the Boss one, that is a better spend of money. For the majority of people the Behringer is great. If you are buying a Wah or overdrive/drive pedal that is going to stomped on all the time, buy the Boss, I have found TC Helicon also are robust.

    The DR600 level control is a BLEND/crossfade control. All the way up is only reverb signal, while input signal is completely lost. Generally a 50% settings drops a lot of 'presence'. On the other hand the DR600 can be used for weird "ethereal" effects or as a reverb unit on a mixing desk. I've fould plate and modulate to be the best sounding ones, the others quite useless, spring is not so springy either rather classic without twang.

    Well done comparison. They don't have a dry/wet knob, but I'd say all the Behringer settings are more 'wet', or more distant, which I don't like. The Boss pedal sounds like the original signal is still there, and reverb is added to it: it sounds closer. Also the Behringer's reverb sounds higher pitch, maybe lowering the tone would compensate. It's like there are presets in it which are set wrong. You can find dr600 on ebay for $40 and RV-5 for $100, I'd say it's worth the extra sixty dollars. But then I watched more videos and found the RV-6 has added shimmer which rivals blue sky and expression pedal input, and it can also be found around $100. It surprises me that people are still buying the RV-5 and it's price remains high.

    The spring reverb of the Boss really sucks, especially on guitar. The Hall and Modulation is a big plus for the Boss, however. Hall is sounding much more natural, while on the Behringer it sounds like they took the plate-reverb and put some EQ on it to create the Hall. However, for the price, the DR600 is well worth the money (if you don't plan to treat it like garbage).

    • @DaDamuse
      @DaDamuse 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i got the skysurfer and was a bit disappointed. The 'reverb' knob has kinda limited functionality and even with the mix knob set to 0 it colours the sounds heaps (kinda compresses things). also with a 500mA draw it takes a lot from my power brick. So saying, might work for what you're playing and i haven't tried the dr600. The skysurfer chassis is pretty f'n solid too. I did read somewhere that its just a reboxed behringer but I cant find that rn.

    I have a link with Brian Wampler talking about "copying circuit board"......in other words how easy it is to produce the EXACT same pedal. The only ones that are difficult are old old pedsls, because they used a different type of circuit board which included precious metals... obviously they won't now.....Mssg me for the link. The cool thing is it was Wampler actually comparing HIS ACTUAL PEDALS, vs all various ones, including behringer....and he said if u can hear a difference that's ok, if they sound different, like completely, then there's something wrong with one.

    • @OttosTheName
      @OttosTheName 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say the old ones are easier as you can just copy the circuits (some components are different now, but Behringer is good at figuring out what modern components to use in its place). But these digital pedals are more than components, you can't just copy the DSP Software running on the pedals.

    Clearly these were not set up the same. The E. Level on the Boss was set too low and the Time doesn't appear to be the same as the Behringer. So you can't even hear the Boss clearly.

      I would suggest getting Joyo D Seed instead. It's in between Behringer and Boss price. But for what you pay, you really get a lot. You get 4 different delay modes (Digital, analog, modulation, reverse), tap-tempo and even a button you can use to memorize two different delay settings of your liking. On top of that, the metal construction is solid. For RM 297, I really get the most bang for buck from that pedal.

    The behringer sounds a lot smaller, more sort of coloured and cloudy. I wonder if maybe the boss is doing the analog dry through thing a lot better so the behringer sounds a bit phasey by comparison. It also sounds like the output of the boss is a bit higher which will make it sound better in an AB comparison. The boss sounds a lot better to me anyway. I think the behringer analog delay and chorus stand up really well to the original boss pedals but I don't think behringer come close to boss with this one.

    The Behringer reverb level will kill the guitars' tone instantly. It can only be *barely* turned
    at a minimum (a smidge or so) to get the proper reverb/dry balance. Anything past that, is totally useless unless you're going for weird sound effects. It is has a terrible wet/dry balance. Once you get the balance right, it's okay. The key to that is to plug in your guitar
    & have the reverb level on the pedal completely
    off (left). As you strum a chord, gently turn the level a smidge or two till you hear the sound of reverb. STOP. DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER!
