Thanks for your recommendations! The Australian one really catch my eye. Also Spanish I reccomend ARDE MADRID, is a comedy about Ava Gardner in Madrid (the fifties), Debi Mazar plays her. Maybe some Spanish history/culture knowledge is needed to fully understand, but amazing anyway. PENNY DREADFUL, gothic-horror XIX century with Eva Green is my absolute favourite TV show ever. Beautiful aesthetic and dresses, great characters and actors, literary references, amazing settings... :D
You should definitively do one for films, series are vey demanding time wise while films usualy run for two hours or so. I personally would rather watch a couple films than commit myself to a lenghty series (altough I've seen many of the ones you're recommending). You can check out Cable girls if you haven't already, film wise I personally love Le roi danse and The piano

I would highly recommend Poldark, especially for those who like period dramas or Outlander. And I know some other people brought it up, but Anne with an E is my new favorite TV show!
@@kaylag9579 Poldark is much more like Downton Abbey than Outlander. Outlander is *extremely* explicit in terms of things like rape (including male rape), extreme torture, etc. etc. Poldark is a bit darker than Downton, as it isn't about one family and their estate's drama, and more about the drama of all of Cornwall, but it's nowhere near the level of dark that Outlander is. The only triggering thing I can think of in Poldark is there is a character later on in the show who gets married off into an abusive situation with a husband that rapes her, but it isn't incredibly graphic. The rape scenes are non-existent to my memory; you just see the fear of the female character leading up to it happening and then her trauma after he abuses her. That's only a minor portion of the show, however. For Outlander, it was the main characters and it was constantly happening.

Velvet and velvet colleccion are really good too! Set in the 50s and 60s in Spain. Follows the lives of seamstresses/dressmakers in a shop. And another good one is cable girls.
Agent carter is absolutely amazing!!! And the costumes and hairstyles and just everything...........😍 I'm absolutely in love with that show. But I'm very sad that they stopped it after 2 seasons.... But you have to try it!!!!

Highly recommend "Most Beautiful Thing" (Netflix), set in the 50s - a show with really beautiful photography and costumes! I personally love the bossa nova playing in the background and the social aspects represented in the show.
I highly recommend the BBC Mini series Little Dorrit! It literally covers everything: romance, drama, thriller, mystery! It criticizes social class and the debt situation back then. It has an AMAZING cast, costume design and set! It's based on the book by Charles Dickens, too bad it's so underrated!

I highly recommend the very heartwarming British show "Call the midwife". It's set in East End, London, during the '50s and '60s, and is loosely based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth.
I'm currently watching reign and began to love it, but the costumes and the music terrified me at first. It's like the other comment said, absolutely historically inaccurate. But I love series that take place in that period of time, also as Outlander. And they are compared to series in other decades, like the 20s oder 50s, very rare.
I'm glad you mentioned Poirot! ☺️ I also love the old BBC Miss Marple (Joan Hickson), Partners in Crime (the old one) and I totally love the Albert Campion series, with Peter Davidson! 😍 and I also love All Creatures Great And Small!
An amazing show to watch is "Land Girls" it's set during WW2 and fallows the lives of three land girls who work on a large estate gardening, managing, and working for a rich family with some comedic relief here and there (my explanation isn't very good but you'll just have to watch it to see how good it is) I has about three seasons and you can find it on Amazon or Netflix

I recommend Foyle's War! It is set during WW2 in England, and revolves around a police investigator in this small town. It's so good and has great characters, and also really focuses on the conflicts of people struggling at home during the war. I also recommend Upstairs Downstairs, Cranford and Return to Cranford, and The Paradise. The Paradise is unfortunately discontinued but it is so amazing, it is about one of the first department stores and I think it is set in the 1800s or early 1900s.
So glad to hear Miss Fisher getting a mention. It's so fun to see places that are so familiar to me in the episodes - I took my sister to The Windsor Hotel (where Miss Fisher stays in episode 1) for afternoon tea to celebrate her graduation and we went to Luna Park (where Phryne and Jack go on the roller coaster) as kids.
The Peaky Blinders were from the Black Country in the UK and I believe that also the flat caps were worn by them and the peak would be filled with glass or sharp objects, therefore Peaky Blinders.

I’d recommend The Man in the High Castle, it is basically a “what if” the nazis won. Which means it can be a bit dark but it’s an amazing female lead and the clothes are very beautiful.

I'd like to add to the recommendations: The Durrells in Corfu (Amazon Prime) - an english family moves to a Greek island in the 30s. Its a much more light-hearted show than most period pieces, and such a favorite of mine :)
A show I can definetöy recommend is Anne with an e (Netflix) its well written, the story is capturing, every character is special and interesting and last but not least they talk about so important topics that are still important today eventhough the series takes place in the early 1800 I believe. Rights for women, LGTBQ, Struggle for racial equality, freedom of speech and in general the right to be yourself. I can only say that this show has changed my life completely.🧡

Mr. Selfridge is a beautiful show with incredible wardrobe and set designs. It’s about the Selfridge department store in the early 1900s and focuses a lot on fashion. I believe they were one of the first stores to have a cosmetic department and it was so interesting seeing the controversy over that and how women were learning to use makeup for the first time.
"Miss Fisher" and "Agatha Christies's Poirot"!!!! My favorites!!!!!! I watch and rewatch his shows all the time, for the plot of course, but also for the amazing fashion and the settings!!!

Spanish period dramas are my weak point, Cable girls (set in 20's), Alta mar (set in 30's), Velvet (set in 50's) and Velvet coleccion (set in 60's) are true wardrobe eye candy! They are made by the same company as the Gran hotel I think so if you liked the plot in that, you'll likely like these too. A lot of plot twists in every one of them. :D
Recommend the Bletcherly circle ! (You can find it on Netflix) It’s about four women teaming up to solve crimes and the story happened in England after WW2. Love the first two seasons but the third one is a meh to me.

Hello, you must watch The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie ( The 1978 TV series- sadly, there were only 7 episodes). This stars Geraldine McEwan and is set in 1930 in Edinburgh. Based on the stage play, also written by Muriel Spark, it shows how she originally got the job at ‘The Marcia Blaine School for Girls’. Her meeting the other teachers, and of course, her “GURRLS”. Available to either buy or rent on Amazon Prime, it’s worth watching for the clothing alone, (the costumes are to die for),luckily though the acting and story are great too.

I've seen most of the shows you mentioned. Gran Hotel is just fabulous. Thank goodness somebody else adores Phyrne Fisher as much as I do🤩. You have to watch Land Girls and Bomb Girls. Also Father Brown great mystery sleuth drama. You might enjoy Grantchester, Poldark, Lark Rise to Candleford and North and South. Now North and South... 2 totally different mini series with the same name. One is the 1985 Civil War drama with Patrick Swazye, its very good. The other is a BBC drama from the Elizabeth Gaskell collection. She was a contemporary of Jane Austen. My favorite movie adaptation is from 2004 and stars Daniela Denby -Ashe and the delightfully scrumptious Richard Armitage😍
What I also recommend is "The Bletchley Circle" and the spin off "The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco" it's set after the WWII and in the 50ies in London and San Francisco. It's about a group of very intelligent ladies who worked for the military as cryptographers and now using their skills to solve murders. The fashion and Hairstyles are beautiful and it's so empowering. You can find both shows on Netflix ☺️ Ps.: One of the actress of the main character Millie actually played a role in one of Agatha Christie's Poirot episodes.
I don't know if you know this show, but "Charité" is a real treat! The first season is set in 1888 - in the Hospital Charité in Berlin and the second one during the second world war in 1943 It shows the daily life for the doctors and nurses there. It is a great show and I LOVE the costumes!!!
Personally I can't plug our Canadian drama series "Road to Avonlea" enough. Great Edwardian clothing (although the set designers were accused of " costume porn" lol...oh well). Still was a great series and wholesome too :)
Downton Abbey was the first show that I had watch since the first time I got in love with vintage. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was really marvelous, I am looking forward for the next season. I would like to recommend Once Upon a Time, the fairy tales characters such as the Evil Queen, Rumplestiltskin, Grumpy, etc are there and they are being cursed and it makes them to live call in Storybrooke (our time) Their home was called Enchanted Forest (I don't know the time but sets in the past) Every character has their own story, no one is left behind and I love the villains. 💖
I have watched and love most of these shows! One I watched and absolutely fell in love with is a Turkish show called Kurt Seyit ve Sura. It's pretty much a love story between a Turkish soldier and a rich Russian girl which spans a little over a decade maybe, from the height of Nicholas II's reign to the Revolution that changed everything. It's an extremely well made show, the costumes are absolutely gorgeous and the story very touching. Totally recommend it! I've watched it on Netflix, hopefully it's available in Germany as well.

A really good german show is Kuhdamm 56. It‘s wonderful to watch and talks about important topics like woman rights in a man dominated time etc.

I recommend High seas (Alta Mar), it is a Spanish show on Netflix, the plot is not as good as Grand Hotel but the vintage style is definitely there :)

I highly recommend the very heartwarming British show "Call the midwife". It's set in East End, London, during the '50s and '60s, and is loosely based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth.

I'm currently watching reign and began to love it, but the costumes and the music terrified me at first. It's like the other comment said, absolutely historically inaccurate. But I love series that take place in that period of time, also as Outlander. And they are compared to series in other decades, like the 20s oder 50s, very rare.

An amazing show to watch is "Land Girls" it's set during WW2 and fallows the lives of three land girls who work on a large estate gardening, managing, and working for a rich family with some comedic relief here and there (my explanation isn't very good but you'll just have to watch it to see how good it is) I has about three seasons and you can find it on Amazon or Netflix

I recommend Foyle's War! It is set during WW2 in England, and revolves around a police investigator in this small town. It's so good and has great characters, and also really focuses on the conflicts of people struggling at home during the war. I also recommend Upstairs Downstairs, Cranford and Return to Cranford, and The Paradise. The Paradise is unfortunately discontinued but it is so amazing, it is about one of the first department stores and I think it is set in the 1800s or early 1900s.
So glad to hear Miss Fisher getting a mention. It's so fun to see places that are so familiar to me in the episodes - I took my sister to The Windsor Hotel (where Miss Fisher stays in episode 1) for afternoon tea to celebrate her graduation and we went to Luna Park (where Phryne and Jack go on the roller coaster) as kids.

I’d recommend The Man in the High Castle, it is basically a “what if” the nazis won. Which means it can be a bit dark but it’s an amazing female lead and the clothes are very beautiful.

I'd like to add to the recommendations: The Durrells in Corfu (Amazon Prime) - an english family moves to a Greek island in the 30s. Its a much more light-hearted show than most period pieces, and such a favorite of mine :)

A show I can definetöy recommend is Anne with an e (Netflix) its well written, the story is capturing, every character is special and interesting and last but not least they talk about so important topics that are still important today eventhough the series takes place in the early 1800 I believe. Rights for women, LGTBQ, Struggle for racial equality, freedom of speech and in general the right to be yourself. I can only say that this show has changed my life completely.🧡

Mr. Selfridge is a beautiful show with incredible wardrobe and set designs. It’s about the Selfridge department store in the early 1900s and focuses a lot on fashion. I believe they were one of the first stores to have a cosmetic department and it was so interesting seeing the controversy over that and how women were learning to use makeup for the first time.
For 1940s/1950s fashion I recommend Bletchley Circle, My Mother and Other Strangers, Land Girls snd Home Fires x

Spanish period dramas are my weak point, Cable girls (set in 20's), Alta mar (set in 30's), Velvet (set in 50's) and Velvet coleccion (set in 60's) are true wardrobe eye candy! They are made by the same company as the Gran hotel I think so if you liked the plot in that, you'll likely like these too. A lot of plot twists in every one of them. :D

Hello, you must watch The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie ( The 1978 TV series- sadly, there were only 7 episodes).
This stars Geraldine McEwan and is set in 1930 in Edinburgh. Based on the stage play, also written by Muriel Spark, it shows how she originally got the job at ‘The Marcia Blaine School for Girls’. Her meeting the other teachers, and of course, her “GURRLS”.
Available to either buy or rent on Amazon Prime, it’s worth watching for the clothing alone, (the costumes are to die for),luckily though the acting and story are great too.
Mad Men is my absolute favourite show of all time; the costuming, aesthetics, actors.....everything is on point.

I've seen most of the shows you mentioned. Gran Hotel is just fabulous. Thank goodness somebody else adores Phyrne Fisher as much as I do🤩. You have to watch Land Girls and Bomb Girls. Also Father Brown great mystery sleuth drama. You might enjoy Grantchester, Poldark, Lark Rise to Candleford and North and South. Now North and South... 2 totally different mini series with the same name. One is the 1985 Civil War drama with Patrick Swazye, its very good. The other is a BBC drama from the Elizabeth Gaskell collection. She was a contemporary of Jane Austen. My favorite movie adaptation is from 2004 and stars Daniela Denby -Ashe and the delightfully scrumptious Richard Armitage😍
What I also recommend is "The Bletchley Circle" and the spin off "The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco" it's set after the WWII and in the 50ies in London and San Francisco. It's about a group of very intelligent ladies who worked for the military as cryptographers and now using their skills to solve murders. The fashion and Hairstyles are beautiful and it's so empowering. You can find both shows on Netflix ☺️
Ps.: One of the actress of the main character Millie actually played a role in one of Agatha Christie's Poirot episodes.

I don't know if you know this show, but "Charité" is a real treat!
The first season is set in 1888 - in the Hospital Charité in Berlin
and the second one during the second world war in 1943
It shows the daily life for the doctors and nurses there.
It is a great show and I LOVE the costumes!!!
Personally I can't plug our Canadian drama series "Road to Avonlea" enough. Great Edwardian clothing (although the set designers were accused of " costume porn" lol...oh well). Still was a great series and wholesome too :)

Downton Abbey was the first show that I had watch since the first time I got in love with vintage. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was really marvelous, I am looking forward for the next season.
I would like to recommend Once Upon a Time, the fairy tales characters such as the Evil Queen, Rumplestiltskin, Grumpy, etc are there and they are being cursed and it makes them to live call in Storybrooke (our time) Their home was called Enchanted Forest (I don't know the time but sets in the past) Every character has their own story, no one is left behind and I love the villains.

I have watched and love most of these shows! One I watched and absolutely fell in love with is a Turkish show called Kurt Seyit ve Sura. It's pretty much a love story between a Turkish soldier and a rich Russian girl which spans a little over a decade maybe, from the height of Nicholas II's reign to the Revolution that changed everything. It's an extremely well made show, the costumes are absolutely gorgeous and the story very touching. Totally recommend it! I've watched it on Netflix, hopefully it's available in Germany as well.
