    Albert Pujols is (and always will be) a beloved baseball player. But part of what will keep the machine going forever is just how high of a note he managed to end his career on...

      He did really, better in a few. I blame the shift and increasing spin rates for his average and obp slipping so low. He was essentially Mickey Mantle otherwise. Broke down quickly, but flat out refused defeat.

      @@j.s.thomasesquire2388 I disagree. I think he just needed to make adjustments to his swing like he did in the second half of his last year. His reaction time and hands got slower with age and he never really made that necessary adjustment

      @@conman8136 I'll give you bat speed for sure. The back half of that 10 years, even Tio, were like watching Jim Thome at the end. Just kinda swinging and lofting balls into the stands or not. But, the shift goes back before the hand speed slipped and I'd argue that between it and the shortened season, it cost him upwards of 250-350 hits and possibly 50-60 Homers. I could be wrong, I wasn't a religious Angel's highlight viewer so I missed a good chunk of his 2015-2020 seasons, except for all the good stuff.

    It was baseball magic. I had more interest in Pujols' story than my own team this year. The fans in St. Louis were great to Albert when he visited with the Angels, and they seemed to be appreciating him like it was the last time they'd see him on the field. How wonderful for them to have him back like the good old days.

    23 out of Albert's 351 plate appearances in 2022 (6.55%) either tied the game or put the Cardinals on top, and 16 of 178 (8.99%) after the All-Star break. When the Cardinals were either tied or trailing, he had an OPS of 0.915 in 211 plate appearances over the whole season, but again narrowing that scope to games after the All-Star break, that jumps to 1.072 in 110 plate appearances-featuring 18 strikeouts, 17 singles, and 16 extra-base hits, 12 of which were home runs. Notably, he also broke Barry Bonds' record for home runs against the most pitchers, which was 449 and is now 455 if I recall correctly. Thanks to Stathead for the numbers and to Albert for the memories.

This final season was an indescribable joy ride of emotions, and the way I had always imagined Albert going out (a ws ring would've helped too lol). I got to see him twice this past season, both in pinch hitting situations, but I didn't care that it was his one at bat in those games. Maybe it's just a coincidence but before the postseason came to an end, I made a comment on a video that basis off all Cardinals wants ,needs, etc. Now having said that alot of fans where unhappy that pujols left the Cardinals to the angel's. I made a comment when he was with the dodgers in quote. If MO. Had to make any deal during the off season not only to make another run to the postseason, put asses in the seats, get tons of revenue from every business in St.Louis that it would be in his best interest to do whatever it took to get pujols back to the redbirds for that one last season. Call it what you want.. it almost felt to me that they actually read my response to this and a month later the cards signed him bringing him back to STL. For his final season and was it an amazing gamble!!! Not only did everything I mentioned as far as revenue happen but it put alot more asses in the seats not only making them money but the machine put on a show like no other season before. The guy is a great and hands down should be in the hall of Fame ASAP.

    It would have been a better retirement send off if he GIDP on a slow roller that ANY other player would have beaten by 20 feet.
    THAT is the Pujols us Angel fans remember!

    When he sign with the angels his leg were not the same and had to readjusted his swing and was pretty much using his upper body only. If his legs were fine I think he would get close to 800

    I wish he wouldve tried for 2023...He hit 469 out of 703 homers for the Cardinals...So if he had came back to STL in 2023 and smacked 31, he hit 500 homers out of 734 for the Cardinals! Makes it a true STL Cardinals Hall of fame career but he also respects Stan Musial and is 6-7 homers away from passing Stan Musial in Cardinals franchise history stats...So He would for sure pass Stan Musial and would pass Babe Ruth for 3rd all time in homers hit..So I understand now why he isn't coming back, he doesnt want to mess with the stats but I just believe he could do these things...MLB has so many rookie pitchers every year especially 2nd half, I could honestly see him hitting 30+ if he got full playing time and that would be a send off for the ages by Cardinals fans..He could've ended 20+ away from Hank Aaron and 30ish away from Bonds...Currently 52 away from Aaron and 60 from tieing Bonds...

    Would Pujols ever have declined like he did in LA if he spent his whole career in St. Louis?
    Great video.

      @wowwt ปีที่แล้ว

      Hard to say. The big issue was injuries and he had a injury during 2011 which lowered his stats a bit then first season in LA he had a major injury which destroyed his swing and made it painful for any stance.
      Though he had these issues his contact percent was still very high which is insane.

      Major injuries are what caused this and it took forever to find a stance and swing that helped him get back in the game.
      His original stance and swing was perfect but he couldnt do it anymore without nearly collapsing.

    @iamthepapi6251 ปีที่แล้ว

    Mannnn you just don't realize how special it was in St Louis this year... Lol.
    What people don't realize is that Albert Pujols could have got Wayyyy better numbers if we had a manager that knew the game better... I don't like our current manager Oli. He's in this for himself to try to secure a job for a while and make some money. He's making personal decisions to try to make himself look good and it's not working out most of the time... When it works out he looks good yes but it's still not the right decision, however it just doesn't work out like he wants it to... He's trying to look like a genius and it's messing up the way we play this game and that's why Adam didn't get to touch the ball when the playoffs started. When it's all on the line you go with your ace to start the series, no matter how he's pitched. Just going with him and having that confidence could turn things around itself and he could have a super solid outing and he would have if they would have went with Adam. Now I truly believe that because I know how Cardinal baseball goes and I know how things are. If they would have had confidence in him and rewarded him that ball, he would have rewarded us!! The fact that they didn't go with him in games one, two, or three is the reason why we lost!!! Now I guarantee you that mamol has learned from that and it won't happen again because Adam put them on notice and let them know!!! He is still with us for another year, however he did an interview and let them know how he felt... Adam's the one who got us here!! Along with the rest of the team but just because he had a handful of bad starts don't mean nothing he still had a great season!! He should have had at least eight more wins than he did. He had no run support. For some reason when #50 doesn't go 9 innings with two hits no runs and eight strikeouts we think something's wrong. It's not!!!
    But with that being said, yes. Albert went out historically on top!!! If he stays in St Louis in 2011, he's THE home run King!!!
    And who knows what we could have done because we won it all in 2011 we were a game away from the World series in 2012 against the Giants we were in the World series in 2013 against Boston and then we were a game away from the World series in 2014 against the Giants. Fell off for a few years and came right back and now we're fighting to keep a winning team while losing the core of players who have gotten us there... And make no mistake Albert turned the page this season because he was working hard. They were talking about how long Albert was in the cage during the off time when they weren't playing games..
    And if you look at things, we've done a very good job of collecting players to replace the players of the last couple decades...
    I mean we end up with Nolan Arenado Paul Goldschmidt and now we've replaced Yadier Molina with a pretty good catcher and Mozeliak made some super good moves down the stretch with quintana and Montgomery... So as a whole with all those moves being made we got a pretty good team coming on the field next year.
    We are in this thing.!!!

    • @iamthepapi6251
      @iamthepapi6251 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's the end of the 2023 MLB season and we are definitely not in this thing..... 😂😂😂😢
      It was fun though, Adam got 200 wins. It was a struggle most of the way but he did have good starts too.
      Honestly if you go back and look at them, he had more good starts than bad.
      There were four games in a row where he didn't allow more than three runs in each game..
      There was a game with 1 run a couple with only 2 runs.
      Adam didn't do terrible..
      Yeah it was bad but I blame the Cardinals for leaving him out there. Once he allows that fourth or fifth run its over you got to take him out he's going to allow 8 lol.
      But they would just keep him in there to butcher his era.
      It worked out though...
      Barely.
      We got to do some serious shopping for a couple good starters. If the Cardinals want to win in 2024 they need to go pick up two good starting pitchers.
      In a perfect world, if it was my choice I would go get Jordan Montgomery back and Then get Snell and Wacha from the Padres (in a perfect world) 😂
      I say WACHA because he makes me feel like it's Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright on the mound at once. Lol..
      Tall guy. Good pitcher...
      Cardinal should have kept him..
      I got a feeling he's coming back.
