    I really enjoyed the rawness of this video. I hadn't even noticed there wasn't music until you mentioned it at the end :) I'm sure I, like many others appreciate you living your dream and sharing it on TH-cam, as much as I'd love to do something similar, I doubt I'll get the opportunity, so stuff like this is as close as I'll get. You have incredible dedication and this series will be a joy to watch.

      That's great, I'm happy that no music works. Just a few months ago I also didn't think that I'll be able to do this project, was something I wanted to do for a very long time, but I was scared that alone I will not be able to do it, still don't know how I will do many things. I decided to take it step by step and I will see how far I can go, hopefully I will be able to finish it successfully. Thank you watching for following my progress!

    You are a very impressive young man. And I'm glad that you are living your dream. This was the first video I have seen of yours. I will definitely go back and watch the first episode. In my younger days I was lucky enough to get a job with a friend of a friend building a two story log home for a elderly lady. I really enjoyed and appreciated all the hard work that goes into building a log home. We didn't have a tractor to do the lifting and pulling. The gentleman I helped had a three mule pulling team he had married together. A large log dog would really help you with your work. I have enjoyed your video so much. Please stay safe and keep them coming.

    • @nikrijavec47
      @nikrijavec47  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you very much 😁That's amazing that you used mule for pulling, working on something like a log house is always a great experience and something to remember. I definitely need to get a log dog, especially for later when I will be scribing the logs. All the best to you and have a good day.

    Add me to the list of people that enjoyed this video. I didn't miss the music and I am certainly not bored by watching a craftsman working in the woods. Back in 1980 we built our own log house and raised our family there. We also build a second lot house for my in-laws. So I can appreciate that hard work that you are putting in. I still do a lot of woodworking and today it's time to sharpen my chisels. (thanks for the reminder) One small suggestion would be to look into getting a small lavaliere mic and some type of audio recorder (a smart phone would work) That would let you get nice clear audio no matter how windy it gets. Good luck with the project.

    Greetings from Australia! I am thoroughly enjoying witnessing your journey with this cabin build. Your videos are not long they're fine just the way they are. If you want to share more and make them longer, that's fine too. I'm just a by-stander given the opportunity to witness what you're doing. I just found your video and I enjoyed it very much. I didn't think your video was too long at all. I appreciated you sharing your frustrations as well as your satisfactions with the processes that you are going through. I really liked the idea of no music. I am not opposed to it but I don't think it is necessary to appreciate the work you are doing. Best wishes and good health to you during your journey. It will all be worth the effort in the end. Thank you for sharing this with us.

    Great video. I like how the absence of music emphasises the sounds of nature. Would you be able to show some of your favourite log houses in the area? I would like to know a bit more about the architectural tradition and what inspires you about this building style.

    • @nikrijavec47
      @nikrijavec47  6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Thank you! Well I'm inspired by this building style from the log houses mostly built in Canada and Alaska. In my area there is just one I know about and I've helped building it, maybe I will do a video about it in the future. I always preferred working with wood than other materials, and I love the feeling of warmth that wood gives. It's a dream of mine to live in house completely built from wood in the middle of the forest.

    You've got an excellent tractor for logging. Suggestion - Keep the old chainsaw for limbing and the new chainsaw for felling and crosscutting logs. When winching logs with tripod your doing it slightly wrong. Use a separate strap for the end of multiple logs, then connect winch-hook so it's a direct vertical pull. Might also be easier if tripod you built is higher clearance from ground level. Your making excellent progress considering weather doesn't always cooperate!

    I posted a similar comment in another video (incorrectly). I second the need for sharp tools, and I need more discipline myself. Great video. I learn something every few minutes.

    Old guy from Canada (East Coast) checking in . Interesting to watch you work and to see how you go or are going to go about your project . I had enjoyed working with logs in my younger years . There is a plainer blade attachment for the chain saw you might find worth while checking out .

      Thank you for watching Terry! Working with logs is great, but it's a very physical work and puts a lot of stress on the body, very easy to injure your back. I know about the plainer for the chainsaw, but I don't like it so much. The end result when you do it with draw knife is much cleaner and also will save me a lot of gas.

    Loved the video, no music is Great! If you waited u ntill spring untill the trees naturally sweat the bark would practicality fall off. You can peel it off by hand in long long pieces. You would save Los of time and energy. Keep my the great work! Love it.

    • @nikrijavec47
      @nikrijavec47  6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thank you, means a lot! That's true that the bark would be much easier to peel in the spring, but the problem is that if you cut the trees in that time the wood will dry longer and old people say that it wouldn't last so long. The best period for the wood to last long in my area is around the week before new year, at least people who watch the moons for cutting the wood are saying so.

    Awesome video ! I liked that it was long and showed every step along the way. No music is better and as you talk about your progress every 10 minutes or so . Very jealous of your lifestyle ... beats the 9-5 job here in the US. The work also keeps you in shape and fit .. most important .
    Only thing I noticed between yours and everyone else’s is that a drone to take aerial videos etc would be cool.. but their expensive.
    Thank you for posting your videos !

    • @nikrijavec47
      @nikrijavec47  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, I'm very happy that you enjoyed the video. I agree that no music and a bit of talk here and there is much better also to explain what I'm doing and to just share some of my thought as I go by with the work. I agree that work keeps you in shape, but it also take a wear on the body as most of this work is really heavy.
      Having a drone would be amazing, but I don't know how I would be able to do everything alone... from filming with camera, all the work and than drive also the drone.
      It's a pleasure to share the videos, thank you for watching and for writing a comment!

    Peeling is incredibly variable. I'm working with maple, white oak and red oak. In general, the maples strip right off, easy to peel. The oaks are both much harder than the maple and I think the white oak is worst of all.

      One tip you likely considered by now, if the legs on your winch stand were longer, you'd have an easier time hoisting higher and getting the log skidder under the logs.
