  • How the VIP, Vertical Integrated Pasture System Design, works.
    A system that mimics a pasture which normally functions horizontally. The ruminants grazing followed by the chickens sanitizing then the worms composting. The natural process is stacked vertically to save space and make the system more efficient.

    Nice idea. I wish there is a way to prevent the goats from pooping on the chicken though. If the goats and chicken can free range and feed themselves, it would be even better. May be goat tractor & chicken tractor?

    Question for everybody : Can you integrate 3 animals in a 3 storey barnhouse? Namely goat on the 3rd floor, chickens on the 2nd floor and native pigs on the 1st floor to consume left over grass, chicken and goat droppings? I have the idea in my head for a time but been searching online for an existing model but haven't found one. Thoughts?

    I have a goat house too but not same like yours the system where you put the chickens underneath and underneath of it too is a vermi-compost. Looks like it is a great idea to save the cost of building materials and feeds of animals. Are your chickens have been growing healthy and delicious to eat? How many mortality out of 12 chickens or chicks?

    good day can we feed goats with malunggay and alugbate leaves?

  • @robertarodriguez2279
    @robertarodriguez2279 7 ปีที่แล้ว +63

    My opinion based on experience from goat raising and free range chicken:
    The design was too tight and has poor ventilation for both goat and chicken. Goat loves to roam search varieties of food. They produce better meat.
    Chicken though loves to feed on wastes but fresh goat's droppings and urine will give them diseases. If chicken were free ranged and could settle on the fields, would be fine but confined under the goats seems a bad choice.

    will the goats and chickens have an opportunity graze out side of their enclosure or are they permanently caged ?

    • @Madodel
      @Madodel  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The layers are permanently caged but their flooring is constantly changing by adding food scraps, leaves, rice straw and grass so they can still eat bugs and get protien from grass or azolla. It is a constant flow composter because small particles will then flow to the worm bin thru the slots in the flooring. Yes we also schedule the goats for a trip in the goat tractors.

    • @Cripit65

    First of all, I'd admit that if I were a newbie farmer, I would have been convinced that this is a great idea. But I've been into farming for a while and in my experience, this is unsustainable, contrary to the evidence presented.
    There are several basic principles that go against this set up.
    1. Small-scale farming MUST NOT be expensive. In your set up, everything is carried to the animals. It takes a lot of fodder to feed the goats, unless you give concentrated feeds. Doing so, for both animals would soon deplete your pocket. Cut and carry feeding would require plenty of labor and planting material. It would be better for your goats to be left to graze everyday if you have the pasture. If you read about chicken tractors, it is a great idea also.
    2. Both chicken and pig excreta are high in methane. You would need electricity to run your ventilating system. Or, you need to put up tarps which could be moved up or down depending on the weather- rain or shine. So you will need an attentive employee. His monthly salary alone will eat up your potential profits.
    3. The 2nd floor flooring is always dirty. How many times do you clean it daily? Another time- consuming activity
    4. Finally, the greatest hit- I am a vermicomposter. (I have a commercial-scale vermicompost farm. But I do not sell the product because I use it exclusively in my farm) In my experience, fresh manure will KILL the AAfrican nightcrawlers. You gotta let the dung dry out first- let the methane and other dealy gases evaporate before you dump it on the worms. I did this stupid thing once and all the worms in one of my composting bin died.
    But you can use BSF to digest the fecal matter. Black soldier flies. I tried them once but failed because I was a tyro. Now, I have enough other concerns that prevent me to try them out again, but they are a good idea.

  • @redrockasrama7215

    Is this where the animals sleep at night and then they go free range during daylight hours? I sure hope they don't live in there 24-7. I raise goats and cows and would like to use the manure for growing food crops some day. so I am interested in new concepts.

    • @nickys5578
      @nickys5578 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      100 times better than the ones you buy in the store (depending on country). Here in the USA commercial farms feed them highly processed food made from waste which isn't bad per say but they have concentrated waste that has festered then been cooked as high as it can. Not to mention the little room they get to move if they even can as their bodies are engineered to grow faster many dies because their own legs can't hold their weight and then they just lay in their own piss and (you know) along with many dieing beside them and even though they might say cage free or organic they still live in HORRID condition by these companies. No cage doesn't mean free range or that they ever even get to see the light of day. and organic means they just breed more resistance creature in these horrible manipulated environments and many corporations already have patent on plant genes that produce their own pesticide to an enhanced extent and yet they are not considered GMO under law because of how they where made including radiation to "scramble and rearrange" genetics Where GMO laws mainly cover things that use out of it's CLASS order (KINGDOM, D, CLASS, O, F, G, SPECIES) genetics to modify an organism using a hollowed out virus that has been inserted with the new dna it is suppose to "infect" a developmental stage with.

      I am living with goats since my birth, one thing that I can tell you is that female goats are one of the neatest animal that you can keep on your farm. they will never pee or poop on the place where they sleep. they always prefer to lay down and sleep on nice hard and dry spot. one if my Nigerian dwarf who's mother died when she was just few weeks old shares my room. and she wakes me up to open the door before sunrise.

    • @jamesfreemanlivestreams4144
      @jamesfreemanlivestreams4144 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Diego Sebastiàn Pérez my Nigerian dwarf goats shit where they sleep all the time. They do like a hard dry spot to sleep though. I built them a nice pen and layed soft bedding in there. They only sleep in there if it's raining, otherwise they always sleep on my concrete patio slab.... where they also poop A LOT.
