I didn't discover her until she passed away. I've been a fan of British comedy and stand up comedians for years, and I have loads of British friends and none of them ever mentioned her until the day she died. All the times I asked for recommendations for shows and and Comedians and she never came up, then suddenly this outpouring of love for her and I finally got to see her, too late to ever show my admiration and appreciation for her comic genius. I've now seen everything that I can find. She's the time top of the Heap, will never be topped IMO
I moved away from the UK many years ago, so hadn't heard of Victoria Wood until a friend lent me a DVD set of Dinner Ladies about 15 years ago. I have since watched every episode at least five times ;-) Like you, I searched for all of her material, and I agree with you, she was absolutely brilliant. The only thing I couldn't warm to was Acorn Antiques, for some reason.
