    Sponge worked great on my acoustic & a rubber band did the trick on my electric, thanks so much!🏆

    Bass players in the 60's -70's put a piece of sponge under the strings near the bridge to get that muted thumpy sound, Fender even made a mute that could be pushed up to mute, down for clear sound.

    Always wondered about this....thanks! BTW James Jameson Motown bass put foam in his bridge to mellow the bass notes...

    So basically we don't need a full rubber bridge to get most of the same tone
