    Was shopping for boots online and YT's algorithm suggested this vid. I did purchase the boots and have no complaints yet. My major issue which seems to be with almost all brands is the sole is not stitched to the boot. In my past experiences with other brands is the glued on sole eventually fails first.

    I’ve been looking for video like this and your TH-cam popped up on my stream about the 9 reasons TO NOT BE A FIREFIGHTER. Which is very excellent I may say. I’m awaiting the conditional letter of offer and medical date. But doing research on equipment and (body weight) training techniques. So thank you for this. Liked and subscribed.
    Also I’m 6’8” about 205-210 I run a heel down quick I’ve found that movement mindfulness (having completed a yoga teacher training course) makes a big difference in how I move my body laterally which is the edge that runs down historically for me. I’m going to seek these out in 15’s.
    Thank you again.

      That's awesome! Congratulations on the conditional, and thank you I'm glad you like the video. Ya big guys like us are really hard on boots. That said, I would also recommend the Danner Lookout. Mine have lasted 2+ years with no issues. They're not as comfortable as the Bates (in my opinion) but they're tough to wear out. I still have mine as a backup pair. Here's some info on them: th-cam.com/video/F7ZktTvFYag/w-d-xo.html

    I've been looking for a pair of black boots to wear with my black utility kilt, l just saw them at Rogan shoes listed for $116 roughly. I'm definitely going to buy a pair, probably going to get a pair of better arch support insoles for them. The factory insoles are probably memory foam or something that won't last a long time. Great real time test.

      @@mike_pertz I have a question , do structural firefighters run into the burning houses and stuff like how they do in movies lol or that’s not how they operate ?

    • @tannerpatton159
      @tannerpatton159 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man. The movies aren't a great representation of what we do just because Hollywood doesn't know how to fight fire effectively lol. Yeah, we go into burning houses, but we have on face masks and full turnout gear, so you're pretty well protected from heat and you are protected from the smoke through SCBA. Now the Navy has a firefighter program, but it is on ships it is a completely different ballgame than structural firefighting

    Just bought my first pair. I've heard they run narrow so hopefully they fit okay. They look well made.

      They have a wide version for people with bigger feet. You can find it on Amazon, under the sizes tab. Good day

    I owned three pairs of Bates. Extremely comfortable. However the souls came apart on each pair the last pair was only about one year old and was not worn often. Personally I will never buy abated again.

    Hey I have a couple questions. So should you have an emt certificate going into the firefighter say the Albuquerque fire service or would they train you as you go threw fire academy. And also is there anything I should do or learn before applying for a firefighter for a better change at getting accepted? And is there any major life changing events I should be weary about thanks!

    • @mike_pertz
      @mike_pertz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      1. I'm not sure how Albequerque handles their training. I'm sure if you just give them a call they'd let you know their curriculum for cadets.
      2. As far as what to learn I would recommend getting your EMT (even if they academy doesn't offer it)
      3. Also, I have a video on this channel "What to expect in the fire academy" and I recommend some books you can get to start learning.

    Bought a pair of these recently and they seem like really great quality boots, but wondering if anyone is finding the same issue I'm having, and that is the left boot seems to be quite a bit tighter around my big toe joint. I've only worn them twice so they're not broken in but kind of weird why the left boot is tighter in that area? I don't have this issue with any other shoes.

    I have had there boots for years and when they changed the soul from the vibram to that soul . I have had problems with soul separating from the boot.

    I question your experience if you think bates are the best duty boots compared to salomon, under armor, salewa, nike, danners, rocky, or even Belleville. I mean maybe had you said Nick's or White's or something specifically made for something like wildland firefighting. But bates? Come on dude.

    • @RedHotBillyPeppers
      @RedHotBillyPeppers 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can vouch for Bates as well. These GX8 bates boots are maybe the best boots I’ve ever owned too, and I’ve had at least one pair of 5.11, Under Armour, Nike, Reebok, and Thorogood at one time or another. For the money, Bates just gets the job done for me.

    DO NOT buy this crap, the brand itself produces crap boots.

    Just got myself a pair and a pair for my brother as well. Actor Jon Bernthal put me up on these. Heads up, they’re on clearance + an additional 30% off online at DSW. Thanks for the video. 🫡🇺🇸🙏🏼🥾
