    Absolutely baffled that Canada was penalised for avoiding a collision

      If you watch closely Phil had opportunities to avoid the collision either by gybing early or ducking. He had his hand out complaining to Spain in the way but Spain had no speed to steer the boat. Phil instead (after doing motions with his hand complaining to Spain was in the way) steered into the collision instead of ducking behind Spain. Based on how things happened during this season Phil seems like he is still bitter that his contract with Spain expired when Jordi Xammar took over (all along knowing Jordi will drive after his 2021 Olympic campaign) and is still acting like he was unlawfully dismissed from his role. He just keeps on jumping in to moments where he can say or do something negative to Spain.

    Who was the male reporter down on the water that appeared unannounced twice ? He was great! Gave wonderful insight and injected energy better than the other reporters did .

    Too many vanity close ups - we can't see the racing and miss some of the big incidents.

    You know you're a sailor (or an educated sailing fan) if it sounds weird when the announcers say, "off their left/right hand side..." instead of using port or starboard. I wish the announcers would use port and starboard and just educate listeners who don't know what that means already. Or, occasionally say something like, "on their port, or left side..." which is also awkward, but could serve to educate people who don't know.

      And yet, turns are left or right, and we still say left or right-hand side of the course. But I hear you. As a professional captain, I find myself constantly interpreting for my passengers, using different terms when talking with my crew. Block/Pulley, Rope/Line, etc. Even the time is spoken differently, using AM/PM for passengers, and a 24 hour clock for my crew.

      I think they should find a happy medium between “no jargon” and “too much jargon” where, as you said, specialized terms can be used but explained to educate viewers. Hopefully if SailGP becomes successful enough to be famous in its own right, there will be less of the slightly-embarrassed “steal auto racing terms so people love us like they love NASCAR” tone going on.

      I am a dedicated sports fan who has only found this racing format this week and knows nothing of sailing.
      The F1 commentary does exactly what you described they explain things I take for granted every session which helps teach new fans. Like I have no idea what is meant by tack!

    Only 2 points across 1-6th place at the end of the day? Damn! Pretty sure that's the closest it's ever been!
    I imagine the fact that Can was windward boat was probably a factor in the penalty?
    Also, why did they get spit out the back sooo hard at the start of Race3? Looked like they had room.
    Australia's angle to the bottom gate at the beginning of Race 2 is probably the number one thing that got them that race.

    I am curious what other people's thoughts are on this, but why are there so many crashes? I have watched a number of races recently (I have only recently been interested in sailing and sailgp), but I keep seeing extremely close calls, or full on impacts. is it because of the sail restricting sight, or is it stubbornness to keep an advantage?

    • @nickc9375
      @nickc9375 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      IMHO the frequency of close calls is due to a combination of small courses, very fast boats and sailors pushing the margins to gain an advantage.

    It seems that they nerver use dual foils i light air. This is mysterious because, dual foils must be less drag compared to leeward hull in water and one foil. Best is of course one foil only and rudder. But if that is not possible then I think two foils would be the next choise and last choice would be leeward hull in water and one foil........
    Anyone....

    What’s with the production quality? Laggy video, terrible effects superimposition, missing boat speeds on mast tops, and course boundary white fence effect that cuts boats in half. :(
    Maybe less digital effects and just show the beautiful locations.
    I love Sail GP, but it’s hard to concentrate on the sailing when it looks like a high school production.

    • @weatheranddarkness
      @weatheranddarkness ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@zoepaulastrassfield2664 Definitely. Though I think from the perspective of "economic" sustainability of the series there isn't quite as much space for that. Seems almost all the teams are struggling to find any title sponsors at all, and much of the sponsorship is from crypto scams on their last legs. Short term, I'm sure trying to sell naming rights to some big oil conglomerate to help them greenwash is probably the easiest.
