    Thanks Chris, this is the review I have been waiting for. I LOVE my 55-200 but the new lens has the Lock and Extender option both of which were pulling me in this lens's direction, I just wanted to be sure that the quality hadn't been sacrificed on the alter of marketing. It looks as if, once again, Fuji are listening. Great Job, please keep it up!

    Masterful use of the K-01 here. It's weird how some shots look like they have decent detail and then others have a weird early video camera look to them. The fujifilm lens looks pretty nice!

      In Northern Europe f/5.6 is much to dark and as it was said, these lenses are bought mostly for wildlife and sports. F/4.0 300 would be much more useful.

      @@kallepyoraniemi5552 Well there are definitely still gaps in the Fujifilm lens lineup. But a lens like you describe is for another target group. Personally, I don't need something like that, I prefer something light and flexible.

      Fuji = bad Bokeh is just a stupid generalization that isn’t true.
      They have the 56mm F1.2 50mm F1.0 and the 90mm F2 that prover otherwise.
      Ofcourse variable zooms are worse in this aspect and this is no exception. But that says more about the type of lens then the brand.

    Awesome lens and system seller IMHO. It's really solid optically, the range is awesome, size/weight are really great (especially considering the build quality), price is very reasonable, AF and OIS are top-notch, it's weather-sealed, etc. And features like pseudo-macro is just the icing on the cake :) I wish that Fuji follows a similar formula with future APS-C lenses. Making FF-wannabe lenses that are as big and as expensive as FF equivalents is totally pointless IMHO.

I’ve got the big Pentax K-1 with great lenses as well as Fuji X-E4 and a bunch of lenses (including this 70-300) as Olympus OM-10 and a range of lenses but I quite like the style of the K-01 and honest simplicity of the whole shooting package. That 16mp sensor was great in it’s and it still delivers very nice clean raw images.

    I'm SO going to buy this lens! I'll keep my good ol' 55-200mm too for a while, and then I'll decide if I keep both or the 70-300 only. I've had a lot of fun with the 55-200mm, so I'm eager to see what can I do with the 70-300mm + a teleconverter. The 100-400mm is just too big, heavy and expensive for my style. Great review, guys! And the K-01 footage, surprisingly, didn't look too bad. Here's what I'm wondering about this one:
    1. How is the weight of this lens distributed? Is it towards the rear of the lens (balancing better with the body)? The 55-200 is that way and a joy to carry around.
    2. Is this lens more or less parfocal?
    3. How's stabilization in video shooting handheld at 300mm? Yes, a tripod would be advised. Nonetheless, it seems the new Lumix 70-300 can pull this feat off smoothly. So I'm curious.

    • @ziginox
      @ziginox 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do keep in mind, while comparing this to the Lumix lens, that you're comparing the same focal length lens between two different formats. All other things equivalent, shaking will be more apparent on the Fuji at 300MM (450mm equivalent.)

    What's that annoying tone playing in the shots with speech? It's playing octaves of A at various frequencies, 1780hz, 3500hz, 5300hz etc. Could be that pentax amp?
    Thanks for the review. I'm considering picking one of these up myself

    • @Danielsaurus
      @Danielsaurus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed! I heard (and was incredibly distracted by) it throughout almost the entire video.
      Suppose it might very well be the Pentax amp or something relatively simple and discrete like that-but regardless of what is actually causing it, the end result is an amazingly painful thing to listen through!
      I suspect the tone noise might actually just simply register at a frequency that’s too high for most adults (generally over the age of 25) to perceive, and that’s why it went unnoticed and uncorrected with this video? In some ways, the noise indeed reminds me of the dreaded, civil rights-abusing so-called “Mosquito Device” that reached peak popularity around the mid 2010s or so:
      www.noisehelp.com/mosquito-tone.html
      Gah, I hate those things.
      Anyway, all of that aside, I’m really intrigued by this lens and definitely now considering buying one for myself!

    Anyway, nice review. I'm a Nikon shooter but darned if my OOC jpgs from my X100V don't perpetually tempt me towards that great bargain that is the X-S10. This lens, one of the kit lenses, and the 23 mm f/2 are calling to me.
    Is it 1:2 macro for APS-C or true 1:2 macro? And what focal lengths?

    • @TomaszBrodecki
      @TomaszBrodecki 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Looks like you said the same thing twice:
      > 1:2 macro for APS-C or true 1:2 macro
      they both mean a 48mm object takes up 24mm in the frame. Compared to the same magnification on a full frame sensor, on APSC this means the object will fill the frame's width, as opposed to filling just the frame's height.

    For me, the cheap 50-230 is fantastic. So cheap it gets things done, maybe it is the case for many people.

    That k01 is not to bad... Makes you wonder the hype we have all believed on more modern cameras. I almost sold my Fuji today... Thinking of keeping it now and getting a zoom.

    Honestly I like the bokeh?? Is that weird? A bit of a selling point for me. Maybe I like untamed bokeh? Seems a bit more on the characterful side than ugly side, maybe my eyes need adjusting? Reminds me a bit of a some vintage lens type bokeh, which obviously is not preferred for certain type of applications. Great review!

    I bought this lens before I even had my Fuji body... Wish there had been some experimentation with shooting BIF for this review.

    I really love my 55-200, I don't think there is a compelling enough reason to sell and get this lens, or even have both. A used 55-200 for $400 is a much better value imho, the sharpness is incredible if you get a good one.

    Great review !! i would like to see photos with the converter 1.4x.

      For my experience, using a converter gives the same result as cropping the image. Just because the converter always degrade the quality of the picture makes it a little soft.
