When all three - Salamat and sons - sang together, it was as if Salamat was the source of energy, and the performance when all three sang together was electric, nothing short of a miracle, Subhanallah... Salamat's stroke-affected voice acquired a rough beauty that was embellished by his sons' voices. An artist like this is born perhaps every few centuries. Certainly one of the 20th century's greatest musical phenomenons...
Shafaqat Ali is not letting Sharafat Ali his elder brother sing. This should not be there. Sharafat Ali performed at our home twice. A very sensitive singer. Beautiful both times. And it was a special treat as my father had been , has been been a Salaamat Ali/Nazakat Ali fan since his young days and had heard them in person many times. Having Salaamat Ali's son over was such a treat at many levels. Will always remember. I still remember his Charukeshi- "A beautiful lady with Charming hair" is how he described it" and you could feel it in the singing.
