Historians have noted that the British Empire was at its peak during the time of Sharpe.
Once Sharpe died, the Empire began to decline. As such, it's fairly evident that the British Empire only existed because Sharpe single handedly won every conflict he was a part of.

From interviews with Sean Bean I understand that _Sharpe_ went out at 8pm. It would seem that at that hour 'fuck' was forbidden - we saw this also at Waterloo - although clearly 'shit' and 'bastard' were absolutely fine! He also complained that the pre-watershed restrictions made it impossible to show the battle scenes, and sex scenes, more realistically.

That last line seems like a reference to Birmingham sword maker Thomas Gill who produced swords in the late 18th early 19th century, whose blades were reported as some of the best in their time. He marked or etched his blades "warranted to never fail" just "warranted" and as quoted by Sharpe "warranted never to fail". He reportedly did not advocate quenching blades in water or brine but in molten lead and tested them by cutting through wrought iron bars. He did make 1796 heavy cavalry swords for both the troopers and officers.

A list of Hollywood/Sharpe cliche's in this singular scene: Sharpshooter in the tower dying to cannon (Saving Private Ryan), Sharpe being injured and weak but still winning the duel by stabbing his opponent in the stomach(Basically every Sharpe episode, including Sharpe's sword and Sharpe's Challenge), Sharpe's opponent doing the thing where he flicks the blade (Dodd did this in Sharpe's challenge, and it's a trope from many other sword fight scenes like from the film 'Deluge'), and last but not least the dude getting stabbed by an ally and just standing there looking surprised (Dodd does this at the beginning of Sharpe's challenge, but it also happens in this very scene multiple times as well as being a common trope in other films).

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:
The fact that Simmerson went from one of the most hated and detestable characters on the entire show to a mad softy able to at last “stand and fight” is really something. This character was a coward, a fool, a snob, a profiteer, a snitch, and an attempted rapist ffs. What might be more impressive is that Simmerson’s actor made that redemption and every step along the way totally believable.

Dragomirov is bigger, younger, a better swordsman, and he isn't wounded. Sharpe is losing until he somehow wins suddenly and then delivers a short monologue about his sword as he impales Dragomirov with it. Now's that's swordsmanning.

At 0:38 if you look frame by frame he's in the background bending down - presumably to pick up the rifle that he dropped to draw the sword at 0:23 - then he fires the rifle. Then I'm guessing he drops the rifle - Harper seems to be carrying it later when they fall back - so he can draw the sword again at 0:54.
