Um, thanks - but please consider making a reverse one on happy lesbian films; perhaps working up (down?) from bittersweet to joyful, watch-on-a-loop.

I don't know, maybe it was the execution of the twist? I loved the first part of the movie, but once the flashbacks started it felt like the movie lost its edge and got a little hammy.

I never heard about pretty much all of these, and after watching this video, I feel like they would be better left buried six feet under, never to see the light of day again. The more disturbing films, at least.

Nice list! I am probably not going to watch the movies. Recently I watched Jennifer's body and although it's good night sleep tier, it still was scary at some points.
This overview is really something else than the usual recommendations we get. Your movie digging is appreciated!
Films from this list that I watched are: Heavenly creatures, Sister my sister, Aniara, Butterfly kiss and beyond the hill. Liked them all! The small disturbing factor make the films more memorable for me.
Thanks thanks thanks for mentioning Jodhi! I love her acting in Sister my sister and of course tipping the velvet, gentleman jack and the quiet passion.

French movie Martyrs from 2008 wrecked me. I was different after that. Evelyn didn't highlight the part that stuck with me: they were people with a "noble" mission regarding the afterlife, so this movie also put me in the existential dread category. I won't ruin the ending of what happened to one of the torturers when the flayed girl started to see the afterlife.
Sister My Sister is still one of my favs. Amazing acting from May.

I’ve watched both of the Martyrs films, and still Allure is the most disturbing movie on this list that I’ve seen. ERW really creeped me out because I can see that relationship happening in real life. Also, you had me choking with laughter at the Sister My Sister comments. I think that movie is hot, but only because of Joely Richardson.

    • @bipbop3121
      @bipbop3121 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I haven't seen Allure, but ERW playing the gr**mer, when she alleges she was gr**med by M. Manson just makes it that much worse (by worse I mean disturbing in how that might have been ERW trying to make sense of or hurting herself by making this)

@@EvelynDar So true! Evan Rachel Wood is such a great actor, and she is not afraid to play dark. I have seen her in a few movies that have "edgy" subject matter. Crazy when I remember she is the voice of the mother from Frozen 2.

Holy ****, I couldn't remember the name of a movie I watched many years ago, probably cos I was so DISGUSTED. And it's on this list! The martyrs! I f**king hate this movie. It was recommended to me by a male friend. We are not friends anymore btw.... :)
My advice to people: do NOT watch it. It's French, I believe, and well, French horror movies are...quite something. I've watched a movie about a cannibal family. It was gory, terrible, scary and unsettling. My mom could watch only 15 minutes. My dad said: "If you watch this movie, you'll never watch horror again". But I did. The Martyrs tho... I regret this movie having been filmed AT ALL, not only watching it...😬

This was great! Heavenly Creatures is one of my all time faves (the clay! Lol). To this day, if you put Melanie Linskey in anything, I will probably watch it. It always irks me as little that her career didn't take off the way Kate Winslet's did (it was the first film for both of them). High Tension is one of my fave horror movies, too. I'd completely forgotten about Fun! I think I may actually still own it on vhs! Sister My Sister...I'm with you on anything with Jodhi May. I haven't seem Butterfly Kiss in forever. You really can't go wrong with Amanda Plummer. It's always gonna be a fuxxed up good time of she's involved. Perfect Blue was so disturbing but so beautifully animated. Also one of my faves. I feel like I don't want to watch Sound of Violence, but much like her Yellowjackets costar (Melanie Linskey), I will watch Jasmin Savoy-Brown in anything. I watched Perfection because I recognized the lead actress from Dear White People tv series. When that movie finished, I was like....Why? Why did I watch this? Where did my life go wrong. What life choices led me here? What life choices led anyone involved in this film to... make this film?? On your advice, Ima go ahead and avoid Martyrs at all costs.
    Thank you for your service.

This was a fun video, you are hilarious. I am a huge horror fan, but Martyrs is a hard limit for me. I just can't do it.
From the list I have watched: Heavenly Creatures, Fun, Sister my Sister (ew), The Perfection (thought it was great, but really fucked up), What Keeps you Alive, Butterfly Kiss (did not like it), and Aniara. I watched a bunch of them when I was probably too young to do so, which may have affected my thoughts on them, especially Butterfly Kiss.
I have been wanting to watch High Tension, people seem to really like it. My wife will not watch horror movies for the most part, so it's just me. She'll put on headphones and cuddle me though!

Look, I understand must girls aren't into these kind of films. But I am in the 2 percent that actually are into them! I loved The Perfection and would absolutely rewatch Martyrs. I think watching different kind of lesbian movies, aside from the enemies to lovers, or the one in the closet/period drama/Xmas related Story and so on, watching something different and disturbing is entertaining too. I found Allure heavy and dark, but I love Evan Rachel wood and it is always a pleasure to watch her.
What I'm trying to say is, yes! Some of us enjoy these kind of icebergs/movies. Some of us lesbians are weird and like watching uncomfortable films 🤭.

The Martyrs is NOT worth your time. I like bloody horror movies sometimes, but this one... no. I wish it wasn't even filmed at all.
If you like really gory and f*cked up French movies, I'd recommend "The Frontier" then. It is just a better f*cked up movie in my opinion. There are no lesbians in it and even a scene with straight sex, but after that the story develops in a crazy way :)) I wish I wouldn't have watched The Martyrs tho. I am still disgusted with it.

I actually liked "Butterfly Kiss". Amanda Plummer & Saskia Reeves managed to make their characters somewhat worthy of empathy in the same way that Charlize Theron made you feel a little bad for Aileen Wournos in "Monster". Plus, BK was pretty edgy stuff back in the day. The thing about lesbian serial killers is the sincerity w/ which they say, "F*ck the patriarchy!", lol. A factoid: Amanda Plummer is the daughter of acclaimed actor Christopher Plummer (The Sound Of Music).

Great video! These movies certainly do seem disturbing, but you made me laugh out loud quite a few times.
    Movies I have seen:
    - Perfect Blue -> Phenomenal film. Hard to find. I would recommend 'Paprika' as well.
    - Allure -> So unsettling. So well-written and acted that it is uncomfortable.
    - Sister My Sister-> I have watched this several times. Gives me chills.
(SIDENOTE: I am with you, Jodhi May=😍)
    - Heavenly Creatures-> Watched this a long time ago. Well-acted and intense.
    - Butterfly Kiss-> I barely remember this one. I think I found it boring or confusing. To be fair I may have been too young to appreciate the existential desires of the main character.
A friend recommended The Perfection to me, I decided to pass because I have not been in the mental space to tolerate it. We both watch disturbing movies; I have to be in the mood if it includes lots of gore. Additionally, some of the themes remind me of a South Koren film I watched years ago about children being mistreated at a school for the deaf. I do not remember the name of that film.
Anyhoo, great video! cannot wait for the next.
P.S.- Good thing you mentioned 'Cracks' in the "Guilty Pleasures" video. I feel like it floats in a weird space where it may not be as disturbing as the films listed in this video, but I would probably carefully pick who I recommend it to if they are not ready to feel a certain way.

They were not sewn together, one lost one arm and one lost the other so they could play if they used the one hand they had!
I’ll give you a break because you did have to watch a lot of movies for this video, but I don’t feel like you understood the perfection or paid attention, which makes me critical of all the other movie descriptions 😅

No Baise-moi ? Or did I miss it? Pretty bad flick, but got a lot of attention when it first came out.

Wait so the maids in "Sister my Sister" are sisters? I'm gonna watch it.
"Sound of Violence" to me is kinda like ASMR lol
The Mai-chan, I won't EVER watch it but I might read the manga cuz I'm so curious.

I've only seen Allure, to see if the relationship of control is well described.
I study abuse in everyday life, so horror films, ...no.

I stumbled across a movie the other day that could probably make this list. May with Anna Farris it got pretty weird

  • @folkgirrl

Some of these movies sound like the Human Centipede, which I didn't even watch in full ( I skipped a lot of parts), but regret every second of it.. !!!! Also to note, here in Berlin Titane was hyped up a lot, but I could tell from the story line, and the trailer it was a load of doodoo. I don't think it's about liking french cinema, some movies, no matter where they're from are trying to be extra, when they're not, they're just bad movies. They get seen as 'genius' because it's so out there and some people like to pretend they get it and have intellectual conversations about it, but in the meantime have also no f ing clue wtf is going on really, it's just their interpretation of a bad movie. ( I "know" someone like that here in Berlin and it's eye rolling cringy ) I doubt I will ever watch Titane.. unless someone makes me.

I watched allure a few days before seeing this video and was not surprised that it was on the list. I thought, Evan Rachel Wood hell yeah, but that movie made me UNCOMFY. Couldn’t finish it.

High Tension is an interesting movie besides the whole gore scenes😳, Cecile de France is excellent, so I think It compensates🤷🏻‍♀️

I found "Johny got his gun" full here on TH-cam and I'm going to watch it. It's funny because recently I tried to watch another disturbing war film, a sovietic one called "Come and See". Got too scared and chickened out. This one might ease the frustration.

Martyr is the worst ! I spent 20€ on it solely because of Mylène Jampanoï (i had seen her on The chinese botanist's daughters) and immediately regreted it! Luckly I had spoiled myself of the skining scene so i went away when it came up leaving my sister to "enjoy" it by herself !
