Neris is the Sea Fairy; Elias is the Water Fairy. Also, the reason Tetris Attack won't happen again is because Henk Rogers, founder of The Tetris Company, regrets allowing the game to use the Tetris branding.
@@GLIEPNIR It's just that he thought the name was unfitting, didn't give the game its own identity. Also, please, never use the word "loli" to literally just mean "young girl", gives an extremely creepy undertone that it didn't need.

2:42 - To be fair, Sailor Moon was only beginning to gain popularity in the US and wouldn't really hit its stride until years later after the advent of Toonami. So they probably didn't think a puzzle game featuring Magical Girls would really amount to anything sales-wise in the US.

The reason for Tetris Attack not getting released on SNES Online was due to The Tetris Company. Since they have specific guidelines for how a Tetris game looks and how it plays. And since Tetris Attack doesn't fit those guidelines, it is barred from being released again. (In a similar vein, Akira was barred from making more Tetris The Grand Master games for similar reasons, not fitting in the guidelines)
Then by that regard lip MUST get her recognition back by getting a spot for the next super smash bros! A mii costume won’t cut it, and we need a 2 in 1 remake of this and Tetris attack for the next Nintendo console, as well as an English remaster & port of Nintendo Puzzle Collection from Japan to the United States & everywhere else!!!

I found it satisfying to make combos after learning the advanced techniques from the Lesson Mode, and I simply had to see everything the game had to offer because of how much fun I was having. I also have to praise the music because it is simply a pleasure to my ears. It's a dang shame that no other games have come since the DS days because it truly is an awesome classic that deserves its spot along with the other giants of the genre; perhaps the game's inclusion in NSO could be a sign that Nintendo is expressing interest again, hopefully.
Man, I received Tetris Attack for my 10th birthday along with Terranigma, and it has a very special place in my heart because it basically became the game I would bounce off when I got stuck in Terranigma and I had so much fun playing every mode. Watching the original version without the Yoshi code of paint is absolutely adorable
I would love to see you play all the modes. It's almost mesmerizing watching you rack up the combos. Never could get the hang of it when I played pokemon puzzle league.
I mean, I’m a Puyo Puyo demon...even if I am mediocre at best at it. Also, you can at least connect the Pro Controller to your computer rather easily...
Man, I sucked balls at the Pokémon version, I don’t think I ever beat the first character. Only reason I managed to see the beginning of the Elite Four was because my brother play through for me.
There was a mobile game like this called Sega heroes however it shutdown yesterday it was a puzzle RPG game with Sega characters from Sonic the hedgehog, Crazy taxi, The house of the dead, Chuchu Rocket, Jet Set Radio, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Valkyria Chronicles, Virtura Fighter, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Super Monkey ball, shenmue and Yakuza. And let me tell you Sonic was one of the best characters to have in that game if you mached a super star tile you would get an extra attack turn regardless of when the enemy was going to attack.
I honestly think now is a better time to get a new PanePon game with a grand fleshed out story, anime is fairly popular here in the west and I guess magical girls are too. There is an audience for this game here and though its not so big, we could rope in some of the Puyo Puyo fans that might want to try out other puzzle games.
Nintendo should still have had a decent relationship with the Tetris Company due to Tetris DS, which is a bunch of different Tetris modes with a NES games aesthetic. It's a really popular version, and initially I wondered why, and then I saw it. I got it myself and yeah, it's really good Tetris is you want classic Tetris with Nintendo characters.
The problem with this game series is that the first few games kinda ended up being diluted in terms of branding due to being completely different names. They didn't really settle on just keeping it called Puzzle League until the GBA, so there's just all these people who played Tetris Attack and never knew it as Puzzle League, and vice versa. If they'd just have called it Yoshi's Puzzle League when they brought the SNES game over I bet they could have rereleased Tetris Attack on Wii VC, Wii U VC, 3DS VC, like Panel de Pon already had been in Japan, but no other regions. Anyways, it's great to see more people get into this game. It really is the kind of game that you keep trying over and over until it just 'clicks' eventually and you cross that border of skill. But for beginners, I actually would recommend Planet Puzzle League/Puzzle League DS if you're having trouble playing some of the other games, because you can make the moves you want to make almost immediately through the touch controls instead of dealing with the d-pad and fumbling. It can help build your skills at seeing chains and combos.
I grew up with Tetris Attack. It's nice to see this brought stateside. The best part is you don't really need a translation guide if you've played Tetris Attack.
Panel De Pon doesn't need an "update". It needs an *_UPDATE_* Update! As in "new added mechanics like Puyo Puyo got" update! Absolutely LOVE the game, but it does have two very notable issues keeping it from greater heights: > Battles of attrition are VERY common among highly skilled players. > Chaining is the only viable means of overcoming an opponent. Combos mean very little. ...and thus... 1 - It needs "garbage attack canceling" just like Puyo Puyo where performing chains reduce and eventually eliminate incoming garbage. 2 - Performing Combos should provide a new type of reward. Mayhaps combos can eliminate fat garbage blocks even faster? A 4-combo peels away 1.5 layers of a big block, 5-combo peels away 2 layers, 6-combo peels 2.5 layers and so on?
Speaking of Freedom Planet, its developer, GalaxyTrail, is publishing an action puzzle game by Tim Ashley Jenkins AKA Friend & Fairy called Petal Crash. Last year, it was announced for a Spring 2020 release. They previously collaborated on an action platformer called Grapple Force Rena, which came out on December 4, 2018. Check them out if you have time.
To be honest they don't even have to do Lip and the others if they were to continue the series, literally do almost ANY of the popular franchises (like what they did with Pokemon Puzzle League) and just make sure to give it an actually FITTING name this time that won't end up causing problems in the future (heck they should re-release Tetris Attack just under a more fitting name, maybe something like Yoshi's Puzzle Attack or something). All we want at the end of the day is more of this sweet SWEET gameplay regardless of how it's presented :D
I remember hearing somewhere that the owner of the Tetris name actually regrets letting Nintendo use the name, so maybe that's why Tetris Attack wasn't the one put on the NSO service.
i don't know. they could easily just remove the name tetris from it (since it's not really tetris and the name was just used to push sales) the tetris company has no interest in it.
Ah, how I remember Tetris Attack. I straight up played the freaking heck out of it on the Super Nintendo! I became a different breed of master of the game where it was all about the VS. If you even tossed a single trash block at me, I was going to utilize it as part of a chain to retaliate with. Otherwise, I just kept on tossing Combos just to constantly annoy you with random small garbage blocks until I got what I really wanted. I need to get back into rhythm with this game when I can.
My only experience with Panel De Pon prior to this game was Pokemon Puzzle Challenge and Pokemon Puzle League for each Virtual Console service respectively. I had fun, but I still can't chain properly. I enjoyed this game a lot, tho, I just wanna live in its Marathon mode. Also, I think Thiana might be might favorite as well cuz of her art, it just looks the best, and all the art in this game slaps, too.
This is one of my favorite games growing up. If I had to make a top 10 favorite video games, this would be right up there. Never mind that this has fairies in it instead of Yoshi characters, I'll still go back to it for the gameplay. I love this game so much!!!! P.S. Rogers really regretted letting Nintendo use their brand for the international version. Still liked the game, though.
Kinda hoping they bring the Yoshi overlay to NSO someday, but I like the fairy original too. If they're having trouble getting the Tetris license, why not just change the title screen and call that Panel de Pon, Puzzle League, or even Battle Clash which kinda sounds like Tetris attack. I guess putting out an untranslated rom is easier.
I think there's a Japanese version of the Yoshi version known as Yoshi Panepon released on the Satellaview... That might be out of the question tho, I dunno
I played Pokémon Puzzle League to death as a kid, especially with my sister, and I always beat her. But I let her borrow it when she spent a weekend at a friend's house. After that weekend, I never beat her again. LOL. Such a good memory for me.
You are to Panel de Pon as I am to most of the Battle~based Columns entries (sans Columns II: The Voyage through Time and Columns Crown, haven't had enough time with them yet): I ultimately could never have an easy time with Panel de Pon due to the Bejeweled~style Flipping mechanics and that ultimately pushed me away from wanting to play most of the entries; Tetris: The Grandmaster is also a bit too fast for my liking in a similar fashion, both require the best of reflexes and that is why I will happily take Columns any day of the week. Columns III: Taiketsu! Columns World, Stack Columns, Columns '97, the two Hanagumi Taisen Columns entries, and Sega Ages 2500 Volume 07: Columns (2003) are titles that I have had an extremely prolonged history with, dating back to I999 for Columns (I990) and III, 2005 for Sega Ages 2500 Volume 07, and 20I2 for the Arcade entries, and as a player who relies heavily on a balance of Aggressor and Defensive Strats, I am ideal to have in any tournament just as much as you are for any Panel de Pon or Puzzle League competition; it must be noted that we haven't had a major Columns entry since Sega Ages 2500 Volume 07 came out in Japan in 2003 and as a part of Sega Classics Collection in 2005 for the International audience, seventeen years we have gone without an entry on consoles (no, the Panasonic/NTT Docomo P903i launch title Puyo Puyo~n & Columns from 2006 that would later become Columns Deluxe in 2008 does not count, as it was only on Mobile Phones) and we are in the Thirtieth Anniversary of when Sega picked up the original I989 IP, so it is weird that they would abandon their most prized possession of the '90s, it's time to bring it back and there's no better moment than the present to finally do so.
well it might be a little hard as panel de pon was originally created by intelligent systems (fun fact for you the jingle for getting a good combo in panel de pon is the exact same jingle used in the first super famicom fire emblem game mystery of the emblem which both came out at a similar time) so it would all depend on if intelligent systems has the time as they have the new paper mario game coming out and fire emblem is still big for them
It's probably untranslated because it's more work than throwing a rom online, and they know lately fans have enough info to see past the "ITS TETRIS GUYS TOTALLY NOT PANEL DE PON" mask, same thing with puyo puyo 2 on snes online
You should check out WA's "Panel de Pon x Smash Bros. Great Fray" series; it's essentially an unofficial sequel to Panel de Pon. th-cam.com/video/z6BTuqvcvCs/w-d-xo.html
So both Panel de Pon and Puyo Puyo got reskinned in localization. I never knew that this was the origin of Puzzle League. I guess it takes a major character to push a puzzle game, like Dr. Mario, in the west. To show it's not like a Sudoku or a Picross where you sit around for minutes on end with logic and stuff.

> Battles of attrition are VERY common among highly skilled players.
Also in Freedom Planet there's a bonus game called Mahjong which is quite similar 2 this.😁
Speaking of Freedom Planet, its developer, GalaxyTrail, is publishing an action puzzle game by Tim Ashley Jenkins AKA Friend & Fairy called Petal Crash. Last year, it was announced for a Spring 2020 release. They previously collaborated on an action platformer called Grapple Force Rena, which came out on December 4, 2018. Check them out if you have time.
To this day, I have no clue why the Gamecube puzzle collection didn't come stateside. I *REALLY* hate localization choices sometimes...
my brother loves tetris attack, he kicks my ass at this game, a lot of good times, thank you i needed this. :)
Clement is my favorite fairy lol
To be honest they don't even have to do Lip and the others if they were to continue the series, literally do almost ANY of the popular franchises (like what they did with Pokemon Puzzle League) and just make sure to give it an actually FITTING name this time that won't end up causing problems in the future (heck they should re-release Tetris Attack just under a more fitting name, maybe something like Yoshi's Puzzle Attack or something). All we want at the end of the day is more of this sweet SWEET gameplay regardless of how it's presented :D
Now that would be pretty kickass. Not enough of this game, I haven't even played it but I'm very interested.
I remember hearing somewhere that the owner of the Tetris name actually regrets letting Nintendo use the name, so maybe that's why Tetris Attack wasn't the one put on the NSO service.
He also said that he thinks that the game could have sold well on its own too
i don't know. they could easily just remove the name tetris from it (since it's not really tetris and the name was just used to push sales) the tetris company has no interest in it.
Man, watching your puzzle skills is amazing! But man does it let me see how bad mine are!🤣
Aubrey Root Blowing my mind, I wish I was that good.
clements a god at every puzzle game except the sonic ones
I'm liking the Fire Fairy, actually, her portrait's amusing and her background is cool... or hot?
Usually Nintendo gives us fanservice but this time they gave us Lip Service.
Great vid Clement. I have Nintendo Switch Online 2.
well it might be a little hard as panel de pon was originally created by intelligent systems (fun fact for you the jingle for getting a good combo in panel de pon is the exact same jingle used in the first super famicom fire emblem game mystery of the emblem which both came out at a similar time) so it would all depend on if intelligent systems has the time as they have the new paper mario game coming out and fire emblem is still big for them
nice change of pace I would say
Maybe do a playthrough of Pokemon Puzzle League for the hell of it?
I like Flare the most because her theme is the best in the game C:
clement should do a pokemon puzzle league & puyo puyo series playthrough.:3
Also I always go for mermaids, just something about them.
Multiplayer seems fun.
The Switch Pro Controller maybe cool and all... but what about the 8bitdo SN30 Pro controllers? c: The ones designed after the SNES controller
I have seen something similar in the Trails series I did not know where that come from.
panel de pon is my favourite rihanna song
I have a friend who plays Wario Woods this way. It is horrifying and impressive at the same time.
It's probably untranslated because it's more work than throwing a rom online, and they know lately fans have enough info to see past the "ITS TETRIS GUYS TOTALLY NOT PANEL DE PON" mask, same thing with puyo puyo 2 on snes online
clement when he opens tetris attack: "woashi"
Hmmm....sounds like an idea for a game series that I could make...
Lip's mom: So. Do they rock, or do they suck?
hmm... you guys think Clement likes Panel De Pon? I can't really tell.
Will we be seeing Panel de Pon speedruns now?
Play more if you want! We don't mind.
You should check out WA's "Panel de Pon x Smash Bros. Great Fray" series; it's essentially an unofficial sequel to Panel de Pon.

As long as there’s something for me to watch
