  • I bought my ‪@harborfreight‬ 6-ton jack stands many years ago and didn't think this video was worth sharing until a viewer asked me if I knew what the tab was they found on their jack stands. I presumed it was self-evident but when another viewer asked what the small metal tab and "metal cut-out/window" was on their jack stands, I dug these old video clips out from one of my old hard drives and decided to make a short video about using new jack stands right out of the box. I hope it helps others.
I see on Harbor Freight's website they appear to have updated their jack stand branding changing it from their "Pittsburgh" to their "Daytona" brand. I see their models also include an additional locking pin which looks like a good idea. I'm presuming new jack stands still have this tab to be bent inward to keep the support arm from pulling out entirely but referencing the jack stands' instruction sheet should describe any necessary setup like mine did. Some specific Harbor Freight model numbers were recalled for being unsafe. My jack stands were not from that batch/group and I have not seen any recall notice on my specific jack stands.
I've gotten tons of use (unintended pun 🤣) out of my jack stands and they've been invaluable in many ways even stabilizing axle assemblies and other heavy items in my garage. They're a great, simple tool to have in a garage when it's necessary to lift and support a vehicle. Never work underneath a vehicle supported only by a hydraulic or mechanical jack. Also, using properly-rated jack stands for the weight being supported is critical as well as understanding their weight ratings. Many jacks' weight ratings are based on a pair (2) jacks, not based on each jack stand. Reading the specifications is important to understand jack stand weight ratings to be certain they can safely support the weight of the vehicle.
