I’m a music lover whose favorite music is classical, but I think the most beautiful single music that my ears have ever witnessed is Cesar Rosas singing and playing guitar to the original traditional huapango Mexican folk song “La Bamba” with the band Los Lobos. There’s a short excerpt of them performing it in the 1987 film “La Bamba”, although it’s only a little over a minute long. They use the traditional son jarocho string instruments, including the harp, and sing the original wonderful composition. It is ABSOLUTELY beautiful music, much better than any of the rock versions, and NOBODY can perform it better than Cesar Rosas and Los Lobos. Cesar says that traditional Mexican folk music is the music that touches his heart; I wonder if this isn’t an example.
Great band, being from ELA myself, there was many bands during these years and these guys stuck together, later in the late 70s early 80s they hit on something, they started playing all these old Latino songs and jazzed them up electronically, the crowd would go nuts, it was fun to experience,
I would have said that too, until I saw them in concert here in Miami a few years ago. Rosas stole the show. He was on fire that night and seemed really the more geared to the showman of the band. Maybe it was just that night, but I walked away impressed.

I like Cesar, but I always associate David Hidalgo the most with Los Lobos and their sound.
He's good, but there's an even better guitarist in his band, David Hidalgo.
