  • The National Association of Realtors (NAR) has agreed to pay $418 million in damages, and eliminate its rules on commissions to settle several antitrust class action lawsuits - a decision that could ultimately change the way realtors are paid going forward.

Oh I’m sure sellers everywhere are going to lower their prices. Yea right!! Total BS. Commissions will not go down. Realtors will simply work around the new rules - negotiate outside of the MLS

Nah prices are going to stay the same, realtors are going to be making less. Buyers are going to assume more cost. Sellers, investors and flippers win.

I've never had a realtor really do anything for me when buying/selling a home. I'm doing all the leg work, talking to people I need to talk to. Even when there's a sale, what are they doing to actively sell my home. It goes on a site for the public to see, buyers see it and then they come and buy. Whats the point for paying them a commission for doing little to nothing.

Absolutely. 100% facts. No realtor ever is worth 5-6% of 4-500k. Commissions should be 1500-2000k per transactions.

I would suggest that you do a better job of interviewing your agent then. There are a ton of really great agents out there who will make your life easier.

Way to make a balanced assessment of the situation (sarcasm). Did you ever consider that lower commissions will ultimately lead to a lower quality of service to the consumer. The overwhelming majority of real estate agents do a lot for their clients. In the future, you may want to interview a few of the top producing agents in your area so that they can defend how they negotiate their fee. My guess is that the top producing agents are knocking the ball out of the park for their clients. Another angle would be to interview some of their clients who will likely confirm that their agent knocks it out of the park for them and that they’re happy to pay the commission because that agent makes their life easier.

Realtors are nothing more than car salesmen. The moron realtor we had didn't do nothing but post pictures of my house online and cost me more money than i should of paid. Next time i sell my house I'll do it myself.
