DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NÜRNBERG Wagner - Teatro Real

- Midsummer's eve in Nuremberg and the real-life cobbler-poet Hans Sachs and the guild of mastersingers are pursuing their craft of poetry and music according to traditions and rules. A goldsmith's daughter, Eva, and a knight, Walther von Stolzing, fall in love, but Eva's father has promised her to the winner in the forthcoming song contest. Under the wise tuition of Sachs, can Walther learn the mastersinger's art in time to win Eva’s hand and see off a challenge from the foolish town clerk Beckmesser?
Richard Wagner’s only comic opera had a long gestation. Summer 1845: drawing on the History of German Literature as well as the biography of poet and shoemaker Hans Sachs, the composer sketches out ideas for a satirical counterpart to Tannhäuser. Autumn 1861: Wagner writes to his publisher that he intends to cheer himself up with ‘something lighter’ and begins composing Die Meistersinger, which he would not complete until six years later. With a sense of self-derision with which he is not usually associated, Wagner brings together an exercise in style and an aesthetic manifesto in praise of the ‘noble and holy German art!’. Here is an opera that speaks volumes about the composer’s own preoccupations: the widening divide between high art and popular culture, and the fracturing of tradition by the radically new. Wise and audacious, the characters of Sachs and Walther can be seen as a double self-portrait of their creator. OperaVision shares live Teatro Real’s new production (the first in Madrid for 22 years) which is conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado and staged by a director with some gift for comedy, Laurent Pelly.
Full performance streamed LIVE on OperaVision on 18 May 2024 at 18:00 CET and available until 6 November 2024 at 12:00 CET: operavision.eu/performance/di...

This is such a memorable performance. If you drop by, stay for the whole thing -- it's amazing.
What a superb production. I loved the casting. This is a long Opera, but it has such good music, and a wonderful libretto. I was so glad to see this. Thank you Teatro Real and Operavision!
Have you seen the 2011 production at the Glyndebourne Festival? Myself, I think it was better and Finley was not subdued by the orchestra.
MARVELOUS❣️ Wooww❣️ such a beautiful performance 🥰 bravi tutti🎉🎉🎉 especially Tomislav Mužek❣️❣️❣️🥰🌟👏👏👏👏
The choir is perfect and all the other actors are perfect too. Muchas gracias Madrid and the Teatro Real is a top opera house , very very very good. All the best. Many greetings from Berlin/Germany.
Muchas gracias por tu comentario! ☺
Kompliment, Bravi.
When I was younger and at the beginning of my Wagnerian journey I had some difficulty with Meistersinger, I preferred the epics, the "fantasy", mythological operas. As I grew older, I eventually "got" this other side of Wagner and now Meistersinger has almost become my favorite, at least the one I come back to most often. Am I the only one in that case? 😊
NO!
@@donmills4077 me too!
Same with me. Much as I still love parts of the legendary epics, it’s MEISTERSINGER and TRISTAN that are closest to my heart. They’re about real people, at the depiction and celebration of whom Wagner marvellously and movingly excelled.
Meistersingers is my favorite opera by Wagner! I have listened to this masterpiece more than 500 times already and will listen more and more in the future!
No, Sir. No es usted el único.
Mise en scène intelligente , superbement interprétée. Très beaux éclairages , une vraie "atmosphère".
Impresionante estar allí! Felicidades a todos!!💫
Amazing! Thank you @Operavision!
Wonderful performance!! Too bad I am not in Madrid!!!!!
Köszönöm szépen. Nagyszerű előadás, nagyszerű élmény !🎶👏👏
Bayreuth in Madrid. Welch herrliche Wagnerwonne - What glorious Wagnerian delight!
Estupenda. Magnífica. Muchas gracias.
Honestly, having just watched this lives, motifs are still running through my head, and I am pondering a lot.
hans sachs was incredible. pogner also excellent. superb production.

💐
Wunderbar
♥️
eine gelungene Aufführung, Vielen Dank
Gerald Finley has been one of the great ones for a long time. That alone makes this a must watch.
Sorry if this is too much information, but the windup to the grand entrance of the Mastersingers begins at 4:39:30
And the Mastersingers enter at 4:45:35
Unfortunately, this is the most muted of the entrance segments I have ever seen.
Gracias Madrid!!!!!
@4:33:25 “Selig, wie die Sonne" For those keeping score at home and want their minds blown and jaws dropped
Wonderful!
sacred German art will always live on
It's always a mammoth task to perform this piece. Congrats to everyone involved and good job on your hard work. Now for god's sake get some sleep after your long day 🤣
First, a nice Bratwurst, a huge pretzel and a cold beer🌭🥨🍺😋
❤!!!
Gratulation!
Saludos.
When I listen to old recordings of live opera, as the curtain rises on an act or a scene, sometimes I hear the audience emit a gasp of admiration at some particularly magnificent set. Today when I watch an opera I cannot escape a nagging suspicion that they are being forced to try to save money on costumes. Modernistic productions are always Different, often Interesting, sometimes Artistic. But they are never Gorgeous.

braaaaaaavvoooooo
Sucks to be the person who enters early on the very first note of a 5 hour opera.
GRANDIOS !!
43’57 Beckmesser missed his lines… strange.
Das Ende verändert die Oper, schade...
Guter Versuch ☹️
What is he doing lying on the floor?
Overture at 4:05
4:05 Overture begins
Too bad there are not subtitles in German!
There will be German subtiles on the post-produced version that we will publish in the coming days.
Too long and boring, like anything of Wagner
