I love Gene Stratton Porter's books, the This one, Th e Harvester, Her Father's Daughter, Freckles and Girl of the Limberlost are the ones I like best.
Old-fashioned and sentimental, but well-crafted interaction of engaging characters in a clever, melodramatic plot set in the landscape of Northern California. The archaic morals and bruised innocence of the adults are a reflection of the author's values, which were those of her post- WW I era. These are so foreign to today's culture that it makes me melancholy for what America once was, and has now irreparably lost. 😢
This narration is really, really awful ! she seems to be just racing to get to the end of each sentence ! like a child who ignores punctuation, and she takes breaths in the most inappropriate places ! only stuck with it 10 minutes - really awful !!

I love her moralistic take on action and consequence, and it Inspires me to slow down and think things through with more compassion
I can hear it fine... and I'm deaf in one ear.
Pardon?
I like her voice.

I didn't listen because I hate romance, but the introduction had sound for me.

Yes. The main reader would make a good hypnotist. I'm out.
