i love this john peel session. i remember it vividly - silver, nocturnal me, watch out below, my kingdom, ocean rain and kiling moon. peely said that mac had a bad cold when he did the session. bunnymen at their best.
Here in the Japanese mountains, I ride a bike, most days. You relish the air, the visor view, the Pete D perspective. You know the risks, and you "factor" that into your riding. Poor Jake would have been a good rider, sure Pete was. Occasionally, you get caught right out.
Bikers like me, and Bunnymen fans, feel the air, see the stuff through a visor. You always know the risk, you ride with speed and power, when it allows. I live in W Japan, I still ride to the mountains. Every week, take off, alone, and get a natural high from the bike, the air, the mystery, the "feel". You prepare yourself for idiots in cars making mistakes. Cynicism on bikes always works. Pete and Jake: sometimes shit hits at a crucial point. Usually the fault of someone in a car.
I mean - I love it cos it's a Bunnymen song; but it's not a tearjerker like the original version. This one is too upbeat and sounds like there's too much "hope".
Hahahaha. My thought, exactly. Then again, sometimes the Bunnymen (Live) will run through a set really fast with faster versions. Reminds me of the time at an Electroficxion gig, where MAc was really frustrated with his guitar and a bunch of guys in the back of the crowd were yelling up at him "Ian, DO IT CLEAN, DO IT CLEAN!" ;)
Great Mac & band!
Mark of a great song--it's awesome here AND in the studio album version. Both are amazing.
