I agree as an Aptera fan, but I can see the skeptic's point of view, that while Aptera hasn't yet failed, they also haven't succeeded yet either. If they weren't so good at raising money, Aptera might have already failed. But I'm confident they have a good chance of kicking off production this year.
@@carl-olivier4406 It's basically an NFT these days. They've got to keep talking about it in the hope that people don't forget it exists and it still has some value.
Dead, this is like a 2 year old video. Aptera does look like it's a possible thing. But your only customers are the ones that ride 3 wheel bikes in a sitting position. All 1000 of them will buy it. For 30 k + you just buy a real EV car like a used M3 or MY. Archimoto already died . Aptera will take the same route
The Fisker Ocean was packed with expensive moving parts and features with faulty software. It was a premium dream generating loses they couldn’t sustain. Not even the Saudis wanted to save them.
Represent!! Is it really unfortunate to see MKBHD not doing his homework past reading a few articles. I hope he'll do a full-length video on them to get a better understanding.
@ I’m sure he has a pretty good understanding. He’s got his skepticisms, measured on a different set of priorities. Thats fair. Doesn’t mean that we have to have the same set of priorities or be less optimistic just because he isn’t :)
@@xpeterson I feel ya. Except, this ranking is based on the likely hood of success and he put 2 companies that are bankrupt ahead of a company that's most fit to survive. Just doesn't make sense to say that unless you didn't do your DD.
I think Aptera will make it, at least in a niche. There are a lot of us passionate eco types that want it to succeed. I love the idea of never needing to plug in and driving on sun light for free. It’s the most differentiated car in the list and deserves more attention.
I do not think they will make it as a company as they are a copany with a car that will be extremely niche and nothing they have shown that will follow it/add to it making them a one trick pony. It has taken an insane amount of time to get to where they are now, close to production. The amount of pre-purchases they have been operating on is cash they have already burned before even delivering a car. I think they may get to a decent production but I think they are not a long term company. I hope I'm wrong. Just haven't seen how they will make it.
@@curtisbme Pre-purchase money is held on an escrow account and cannot be touched. So they money they've been burning is mostly crowdfunding money. I agree that, with how popular SUVs are these days, Aptera will be a niche vehicle indeed. How far they've come on pennies compared to other EV startups is crazy.
all i know is that a montreal winter would destroy this car plus they have no servicing you break a wheel they will send you the part so you can find a guy to stick it back on
1. Aptera is a niche product, but has a dedicated fanbase (C tier). 2. Canoo is on the verge of bankruptcy (E tier). 3. Faraday Future FF 91 is total vaporware (F tier).
@@Klust413 Pretty easy to do the math on the solar panels. almost no one is going to be able to get enough power from those panels to drive more than 10 miles every day. All of their calculations assume you live on the equator and your car is constantly changing orientation all day to be pointed directly at the sun. Even in sunny arizona, you're only going to get 30 miles a day if you park it in a sunny parking lot all day. My point is that you're still going to have to charge it anyway, just like any other EV. Almost no one will get enough power from the sun as to never have to charge it via a cord.
Ouch! You did us dirty by putting us below Faraday future and Canoo, both of which are 99.99 percent going to fail and below Fisker which has 100 percent already failed. I mean yes it's an uphill battle for Aptera but i definitely give them better odds than a company that has already failed and two companies that are going to fail.
There is no comparision really and Aptera is not in customer's hands. Fisker is good where it is.. They delivered a good car with a lot of potential and many are on the road. It's upto the Aptera management team now to bring it to the top.
@@dwilliams4558 Fisker Owners association is working hard to get support & parts available. There are a few Mobile Techs that have been helping out as well. Certainly not as easy as Honda. Need some DIY as well.
Here's why Aptera has fans - none of the other ones you mention matter. If they succeed or fail, ok, there's on more EV out there. Looks slightly different, slightly different specs, but whatever. They're just another EV. Aptera is FREE ENERGY. As a second car, if they can really get it down to 30ish k, there are a lot of people that makes a lot of sense for. I'll keep my Jeep for trips and adventure, and drive an aptera for free for 90% of my miles. No other company has a justification for existence like that.
Yeah he's got it backwards Aptera should be higher ranked. Everything else on the list is retrofitted ICE vehicle house on wheels inefficient heavy tech! The tech in Aptera is the future! Wake up my man.
@@CaptMatt1 his whole point on this is ‘will they launch’ - Aptera has been a company since 2017 and hasn’t put out a car yet. Will they? Sure, it’s possible. But after 8 years, it’s tough to keep saying, “It’s almost here!!!’ Also, I agree the FF91 being an ‘A’ is bonkers.
@@Dwhizzle Aptera officially launched in 2019 but didn't start accepting pre-orders till December 2020 so really only 4+ years so far. And what they've done in that time has been astounding. Granted they have over promised on delivery dates in the past but a lot has changed in that time.
@@Dwhizzle Where did you pull your 2017 from? 🙄Aptera Motors was founded in 2019. Stick with facts if you do not want your whole post to be discounted.
Change my mind: Aptera‘s focus on efficiency with a safety first mindset is no gimmick. Its looks might not be for everyone but the economics are. I would be an investor if my wallet came out to play… Fully spec’d out you get AWD, a monocoque cockpit, and 1000 miles of range… all under $70k. And this is just their FIRST DESIGN! Imagine if they offered an SUV/Crossover. They’d more than likely reach 600 miles of range while still falling below $100k. Compared to the Rivian R1S at 410 miles and $91k, and the Lucid Gravity at 450 miles and $98k, no other company is offering such huge range per dollar.
Few points on Aptera. It's the equivalent size of a Camry, so its actually larger than you think. Also wrt safety its fully enclosed in a carbon fiber tub so it'll be just as safe as a car rather than a motorcycle. I think if they can hit the price point they'll succeed. The functionality is the type of car that appeals to a lot of people - cheap, futuristic, easy to charge, long range.
It is indeed larger than one might think, so large in fact, that his comment about it being better suited for Europe and other places is very incorrect. The width of Aptera is listed as 2.23m, which is WAY too wide for European roads, it's wider than large SUVs or vans. Someone measured a preproduction vehicle which was closer to 85 inches wide (2.16m), which is still very wide
I definitely want one, and I know other people who do too. I think Aptera is going to be successful, and I’m going to buy one as soon as it comes off the assembly line.
I, too, wish for Aptera to succeed! I fear it won't do well in the marketplace for the same reason my 2003 Honda Insight did not become a big hit- still just a 2 passenger car. These might make for 2nd or 3rd car status for the well-off/wealthy but SUVs sell because of their versatility. I hope I am wrong, I really do. BTW- I sold the Insight when I moved to Flagstaff AZ at 7,000 feet elevation. I might be able to go 45 mph up those hills/mountains (75 mph speed limit) and there were times I was sure it wouldn't make it! Otherwise it was agreat car for a single guy.
Hi, I'm one of those vocal Aptera fans you mentioned. Just because a lot of Americans buy giant inefficient vehicles doesn't mean there aren't a lot of Americans who would gladly buy an efficient vehicle that doesn't require gigantic battery packs. Personally, I think it's brilliant.
@@Entertainment-But creating bigger and bigger vehicles isn't gonna help anything either. The way things are going we're all gonna be driving semi trucks on our drives to work because having a big vehicle makes people "feel safe".
@@sparklefluff It not just “feeling safe”, it’s actual safety. Crash test scores are based on their segment, if you’re in a head on collision in a small car with a 5 star rating against an SUV with 3 stars, guess what, the driver in the SUV is more likely to survive.
@@Entertainment- I think you are generalizing. My mother was t-boned by a semi in her volvo s40 and she walked away with a mild neck ache that went away in a day. The seat converted to a cradle as soon as the impact was detected by the car. It is more complicated than simply size.
@robertkirchner7981 oh I'm counting on it. But it's interesting sometimes how a mainstream TH-camr describes a product that he doesn't understand to people who he assumes aren't interested in it.
I’d love to see a deep dive into Aptera. I have been following them for a while and I’d love to see you test drive their most recent production intent vehicle
For me a test drive would just say, "it drives like a car despite having only 3 wheels" and that's fine with me. That's all I really look for in a ride. All the rest of the Aptera is what I am wanting out of an EV. Ultra efficient design which makes solar charging meaningful. Less resources needed, less parts needed... We should be doing this going forward, not just slapping more batteries in to bigger vehicles. That isn't efficient. It's dumb.
He was at CES. He could just walk up to the Aptera stand and ask for a test drive. But he couldn't care less. He was just interested in promoting dead startups. Who knows why?
Marquez previously expressed doubt that Aptera will reach production, but then stated that he would be eager to review it if/when it does. I’m confident Aptera will reach production, so I think it will happen. In this video, he seems to make assumptions about the safety of the vehicle without actually knowing about the safety level that’s been engineered into it. In a few months, we’ll have crash test data, and if it matches the computer simulations as expected it will show the Aptera to be quite safe. I think if he checks it out after that, he will see the Aptera in a very different light. And I think he’ll be impressed.

Go Aptera!!! We have a production intent car and we should start deliveries by end of year and into 2026. It was the talk of the town at CES last week!
Fisker - as an owner - this might be one of the best ways its been put. Everything that was and is wrong with the car, could have been overcome by the next model year - but the company closed shop in 6 months. Due 100% to management. I still get looks and compliments on the car.
I'm a huge fan of your content! Please give the Aptera a further look, you'd be surprised by the steps they're taking to make the vehicle safe and affordable! When they have production vehicles ready for reviewers and media, I hope you review them.
You put an already bankrupt company at the highest point of the list, and Canoo (which you placed above Aptera still) just declared bankruptcy. Seriously… this list isn’t well thought out at all.
Aptera's efficiency and solar panels make it ideal for apartment dwelling commuters. Most Americans aren't going to have a home charger or convenient access to a charger for a long time yet. The property insurance costs to put chargers in residential parking garages are ridiculous. These people need a car that only needs to be plugged in once a week.
I could see it working with another 10 years of battery tech advancements. Basically we just need stupidly efficient batteries and then we could do hot swap
The company is actually pretty transparent about their progress and has a fairly active TH-cam channel. You can do your own research and draw your conclusions.
I love how he casually switches to other things happening in the surrounding environment such as a cat walking by or birds flying by. I'm here for that.
The unique use-case for Aptera that no other electric vehicle is currently able to address at scale is the short distance urban driver. This isn't because of the vehicle itself, but because of its ability to self-charge. Because in crowded urban areas there simply isn't the physical footprint for widespread charging stations, and someone living on the 5th floor of an apartment building isn't going to be tossing out a giant extension cord to charge their car. So for urban drivers, the Aptera solves an otherwise insurmountable problem for EVs.
Of course there's a footprint for charging, they're called parking spaces. And if you're driving short distances in the city, you only need to charge a normal EV once every several days or week for all your driving. If in all that time you never park at a space with a level 2 charger, then it's not the end of the world to spend 25 minutes listening to music and writing angry TH-cam comments at a DC fast charging station.
@@skierpage The reality is not that straightforward. Given that people generally don't have designated street parking spaces in cities, and those street spaces themselves are in high demand, outfitting parking spaces with chargers would mean one of two things: Creating specific parking spaces with charging capacity designated solely for EVs, or adding charging capacity all along streets, everywhere. The first of these options would of course be considerably cheaper and therefore the more likely to occur. But now consider how this would play out. Someone lives in an urban neighborhood, wants to charge their EV, but the designated EV charging spaces are all taken. So the person would have to find a space elsewhere -- already difficult -- and move their EV to the charging spot when it would become available. This could all be scheduled online, yes, but it would still be a hassle. And 25 minutes doesn't sound like much when you're talking about one person. But when you're talking about thousands of people, those 25 minute charging moments at finite charging stations add up. And those 25 minutes REALLY add up when you consider that it's not 25 minutes if we're talking Level 2 chargers as you suggest. At those low currents, it's more like 4+ hours. The Aptera does away with all this complexity.
Aptera investor and fan. For sure, I want to see these on the road. Having finally seen it in person, it's not a small vehicle and would have trouble fitting in some European cities. The price point for the Launch Edition is $40K at the moment but for me that's not deturing me as I don't plan on spending a lot of time plugging it in and just letting the solar and vehicle effiency do it's thing. Having sat in it at CES, it's not bad. The finishes aren't luxourious and it's pretty bare bones, which again is fine with me. It's a first step. Having a very short ride in the track vehicle, it feel like you're in a car. What more do you need? I'm just really disappointed that we haven't seen the more efficient smaller EVs come to market. Aptera is really the only one filling that niche.
I think you went too hard on Aptera - they are the only company on this list offering any real innovation and should absolutely be given a closer look. No one needs Afeela or that weird Dyson car, but Aptera will provide real, tangible advantages over other EVs.
Thinking Aptera should be one grade higher due to their contract with Munroe who was able to help them slash initial production costs, get rid of the wheel hub motors, and body supplier with a solid track record to further reduce delays and cost.
@@gschweiger they are also suppliers to Tesla, Rivian, VW, Stellantis, Hyundai, GM, Polestar, and more. So looks like they have more good experiences than bad
I STRONGLY disagree with his evaluation of Aptera. Especially with what is happening economically, Americans have been yearning for small, affordable, and efficient cars. I really do think that it will put a pretty big dent in the Prius customer base who is well known for wanting efficiency over everything else. We'll have to see when it actually comes to market but it has A LOT going for it at its price range.
A little bit of constructive criticism, I think this video could stand to have a more defined premise. It could be ranking the quality of the design, it could be ranking who has the best shot at sticking around, it could be ranking strategy and how each company tried to differentiate their product, and so on. It felt like it was all of the above at which point I don't know what the takeaway is supposed to be. Additionally, I think it could have used a little more background research. Canoo for instance has had their remaining staff on a "mandatory unpaid break" since mid-December and as of three days ago have completely pulled their website.
I think Aptera could be the modern Prius. Many years ago, the Prius was a trendy eco car that people wanted to be seen in. Aptera could take over that space and would be the best daily driver for the vast majority of Americans. Maybe being the best for the job doesn't equal sales, but it could. I think, of the cars on this list, the Aptera has the greatest potential to make an impact on the world.
Just saw Drew announce a partnership with Aptera for their solar tech. I'd like to see the TELO make it as well. I need a small utility vehicle next to my Aptera.
Aptera lies in this video: 1* I don't think He physically went to see the launch edition Aptera at CES. (I might be wrong) 2* The launch edition is the 400 miles version for $40K. The future low mile 250 mile version will still be around $28K. 3* All the wobbly wheel pant video is old stuff. They fixed it
1. You can't be wrong - even if he did go you still didn't think he did. 2. No stated price is real - they will give a real price only after there is one up for sale. 3. The fix was before they made them split to open; now they hide the opening from CES visitors and on the one that moves, they have no pants. Just saying.
I’m a fan but not a reservation holder. This vehicle would perfectly serve my needs though. One to two person, short distance commutes, minimal practical storage capacity (e.g., groceries).
The primary concern for me is seasonal and wear and tear durability paired with the need to be consistently exposed to the elements to maximize efficiency.
Some of what you’re saying is either inaccurate or not true. 1. You mentioned that the Afeela is going to be “one of the first NACS cars.” I don’t know how you can claim this when the car won’t be out for at least 2 years and the refreshed Ioniq 5 will ship with an NACS plug in just a few months. 2. You put Fisker in A tier when it's literally bankrupt, yet aptera, which is not bankrupt and just put together production intent builds shown at CES, is in D? when Faraday Future, which has basically no hope of building anything is in C? wtf
You know what's really hard...starting a new car company. You know what's even harder...walking out of the woods stooped over and staying on verbal and video queue. Now do the Thriller graveyard scene. J/K
When talking about EV start-up with serious innovative products that have the potential for mass market nobody on the planet can match China, not even century year old legacy auto makers can match them. When you see those Afeela, Dyson, Fisker, Faraday Future, Lucid all of them looks futuristic with software heavy and lots of giant screen all around the cabin... but Chinese EV companies already did all of that and already on the road on a massive scale. The advantage they had is the complete supply chain : 1.. The complete ecosystem of the EV industry. 2. Total domination of raw materials. 3. Government support. 4. Battery tech and economies of scale of the battery industry. 5. Cheap labor force. 6. Automation and robotic on a massive scale. 7. Supporting each other, not killing each other. 8. Their gigantic market.
Look I love Aptera, been watching them for years because my father is an ambassador/investor, but I don't think it's going to happen. Aptera is exciting because they have a lot of right ideas, but none of that frankly matters. How is Rivian in production? They're backed by Ford and Amazon. How is Lucid in production? Saudi oil. The truth about the auto industry is that you can't operate in the market unless you have bottomless pockets and Aptera (and all of the companies on this list) simply doesn't have that. It's the nature of a very mature market that only has the long time huge players left. In this day and age, the incumbents have a complete strangle hold on the market, and unless you team up with one of them you don't get to play. My advice is for Aptera to partner with Harley Davidson. Until then, it will remain a passion project.
Marques, I always appreciate your insight on EVs, but with respect I think you judged Aptera wrong. Maybe I'm biased because they interest me personally, but I think that there's a practical end-game for a lot of people looking for efficiency and practicality. The thing about Aptera that shines, if you care about miles/Whr, they'll always be at the top of the list. If you care about solar charging, they'll be at the top of the list. And they're a radical visual design that will just appeal to some. Performance will be better than similarly priced cars, just because of how light the vehicle is. I can't say how many need to sell for the company to stay in business, but some will buy because it's the winner in some metrics and some will buy because of the distinct novelty of a vehicle that looks like that. It's not for you, but I'm sure many will like it. And they're finally doing production intent prototypes, so I think an actual delivery is eminent. I hope you consider doing a deeper dive and a video on it's own of the current state of the company. I look forward to your thoughts.
Aptera has said they need to produce (only) 6000/yr to break even. I think they also mentioned that a single 8hr shift on a single production line could produce 10,000/yr.
Why are you referring to Aptera as if they are not viable.I invested $2000 into aptera which I knew was a super risky investment. I also put one of the cars on order as well. Really hoping Aptera makes it to production and hope I don't lose my investment etc. 50,000 orders say that if Aptera can make it to production, it will succeed. I'm betting on it.
Please go down to Aptera headquarters to check out their production ready vehicles they just put together. They would 100% give you a tour of the place and let you drive their prototype. I think after that you'd put them up to a B or if not an A because they also have the whole camping community on board. Loved the video though. 👍🏼
Telo actually has a decent plan to become profitable at a low volume. They already have thousands of pre-orders and hopefully will ship the first batch within the next year.
You need to do all 3 to be a legit ev manufacturer: 1) Make EVs that people want to buy (price, performance, design) 2) Make these EVs at scale (1M/year) 3) Do 1 & 2 while making a profit per EV produced The only companies that can do this are Tesla & BYD
You seem stuck on hating the Aptera. The sarcasm about the efficiency and having a different rating system betray your hate. Is this about getting to market, the tech advancement, or what? Sony rated higher without any build plans? What did Aptera do to you? As far as a vehicle: what is the biggest obstacle holding back electric cars? Infrastructure. For most people's commute, the Aptera will eliminate the need to charge at home, which street parking prevents. Most families have only one person on kid duty during the commute, so two seats is a false excuse.
@@drunkenhobo8020 they haven't been doing that for the past 6 years. They've had multiple test iterations but they just made their PI vehicle a couple months ago
I don't know the Sony is pretty far along. They also have production intent vehicles with more backing and the experience of a legacy automaker. Honda I assume will help build them to high quality standards and already have the infrastructure of Honda dealerships if they're willing to distribute them or service them there.
Man I love how you put everything in perspective at the end putting Fisker in A tier. Like sure all these are cool, but Fisker had the best shot out of them so far and failed.
I wish you had included the Telo Truck in your tier list. They are in the early part of the development journey, they have been testing a proof of concept chassis and are building a prototype, but they have a killer differentiator, a really small pickup. The Telo is cab forward, like Canoo, and is able to pack a four door cab and a 60 inch pickup bed in a 152in X 73in footprint. The truck also has a fold down rear seat and a midgate, so it could actually carry 4ft X 8ft sheets of plywood in the bed. It can do most of the things a modern pickup is used for with the main exception being rural cosplay.
Totally. Early reservation holder here. Telo ticks all my boxes, and today's announcement that they're partnering with Aptera with solar panel integration is the icing on the cake.
I owned a 2-door Mazda B2000 pickup. The only vehicle I regretted selling the day after. Those size pickups have disappeared. I was SO disappointed when Rivian dropped the pickup from its R2/R3 lineup. I'm a Telo reservation holder. But I'm not holding my breath. They've got a LONG way to go. I Wish them well.
Take another look at Aptera. They just received an award ar CES, signed partnership deals, and working with Telo ro supply solar for their mini eTruck. PS, Aptera had a lot of fans, reservation holders, and investors at CES. Worrh another look and a better grade on your list. Plenty of Aptera fans watch your channel= a connection!
Aptera is a bit further along and definitely closer to production than he is letting on. They have over 50,000 pre-orders at this point and are testing production intent models.
I support Aptera, but their current prototypes stretch the definition of "production intent". They are largely composed of production intent parts, but also many that aren't quite there yet. They are, at least, "production intent" enough to begin to test Aptera's projections regarding performance, efficiency, and safety. That's the important part and I look forward to seeing the results.
I think you are wrong about Aptera, there are many people who believe in efficiency, like Prius. Yes, they are not going to ship in millions, but they could sell 100k range every year. I wish them all the success.
Especially when one of the worst vehicles he's ever reviewed, by his own admission, is being placed in A-tier immediately after telling us that company is going bankrupt. Wild. Aptera needs to sell 6,000 a year to break even. That's it. Super low volume required to make it, way lower than ever auto company ever. Good news is, Marques is of the opposite opinion to Sandy Munro, and I'll side with Sandy every day of the week.
idk, Aptera defiantly is going to have a niche and I think you're misinformed. none of this stuff is really out until it's out. But even if the Aptera never breaks out of it's niche, it's a challenge to other auto companies that they need to pivot a little bit. the fact that it's a three wheeler puts a lot of people off, but it's not built like a slingshot, it's build like a sedan, with airbags and crash tests. they are definitely taking advantage of the different regulations on auto-cycles, but they have been trying and retrying this idea for years. One of the things about them is they do have other business ventures and intellectual property that makes them money while they try to make this thing work. once they have the money for production (which I believe they do/will) they will make money. their trials have taught them a lot and they are running a very resilient company.
I don't understand the excitement over solar on the truck, but I am excited about what Telo could mean for the industry. A small, capable pickup instead of a giant ego stroking bully machine is a promising direction for vehicles to take.

The problem with EV startups is since EV’s cost so much to build, they try to justify the super high prices by going all in on luxury, but at that point there’s still probably not much range (comparatively) and much more attractive/established gas-powered (or some EVs) that are already out there that come with more reliability and support, and then you’re also not acting as essentially a beta user
Man, you are going to be shocked if Marques starts coveing thr nearly dozen EV start ups in China. They make EV's that are cheaper than ICE cars. They even have an $11,000 EV being sold. It's amazing what the Chinese car companies have achieved.
You just described the problem with any _car_ startup, period. Building any car in large quantities takes $hundreds of millions, so instead Czinger and Hennessy make expensive ICE sports cars in tiny numbers. Besides, Fisker and Canoo didn't make expensive EVs. The former went bankrupt, and the latter is about to.
Here, one of Aptera vocal fans! FYI, Aptera was not born in 2006 and have not been born and reborn several times since then, as you erroneously stated. Here are the facts: The first Aptera, Aptera 1.0, was indeed born in 2006, but was liquidated in 2011 for reasons I can't go into here. Besides, Aptera 1.0 was not making EVs then but a hybrid diesel engine car. In 2019 a completely new company, Aptera Motors, was founded by the former founders of Aptera 1.0. This new company was incorporated as an EV/solar technology company, and is presently building the world's first most efficient solar electric vehicle (SEV) that can go up to 40 miles a day solely by the power of the sun. Do your homework properly before making uninformed comments on a video broadcast on a public platform.

"Here are the facts: The first Aptera, Aptera 1.0, was indeed born in 2006, but was liquidated in 2011 for reasons I can't go into here." Mainly not enough cash. "Besides, Aptera 1.0 was not making EVs then but a hybrid diesel engine car." And what made it hybrid? - the EV part. "In 2019 a completely new company, Aptera Motors, was founded by the former founders of Aptera 1.0." Neither of these entity names are correct, and the new company was a rebirth - no way could you call it completely new. "This new company was incorporated as an EV/solar technology company, and is presently building the world's first most efficient solar electric vehicle (SEV) that can go up to 40 miles a day solely by the power of the sun." Lightyear 0 has taken the mantle of world's first, if production sales are a factor. Squad is about to be second, and Aptera doesn't look like it will make the top 50. I think Aptera will make it, at least in a niche. There are a lot of us passionate eco types that want it to succeed. I love the idea of never needing to plug in and driving on sun light for free. It’s the most differentiated car in the list and deserves more attention.
Miata works at large scale for decades. Aptera will work as well.
Miata and Prius. Combined really. Prius sold a lot of cars just because it was the most efficient car at the time. Something like 100k at peak.

Change my mind:
Aptera‘s focus on efficiency with a safety first mindset is no gimmick. Its looks might not be for everyone but the economics are. I would be an investor if my wallet came out to play…
Fully spec’d out you get AWD, a monocoque cockpit, and 1000 miles of range… all under $70k.
“I would be an investor” lol, least obvious Aptera “””fan””” in the comments
Few points on Aptera. It's the equivalent size of a Camry, so its actually larger than you think. Also wrt safety its fully enclosed in a carbon fiber tub so it'll be just as safe as a car rather than a motorcycle. I think if they can hit the price point they'll succeed. The functionality is the type of car that appeals to a lot of people - cheap, futuristic, easy to charge, long range.
Yeah charging 11miles an hour is super helpful on a 110 outlet! My Tesla Y can only do 4 an hour on a 110 outlet and that just doesn’t cut it
It is indeed larger than one might think, so large in fact, that his comment about it being better suited for Europe and other places is very incorrect.
Has a steel cage buried in it, too.
It’s undrivable in the US. Being in a car crash in one in a country that’s SUV/pickup land is devastating.

It's dumb.
@ yeah that’s a good point, I have high hopes for aptera and I guess I just hope to see Marquez do more content about it in general!
@@kevinscott8642Yeah, that's the ticket. They just need to get the funding to hit production. I'd basically never need to charge with my 20ish round trip commute in Texas where the sun's practically always out.

As a content creator myself, I fully enjoy and appreciate the consistency of the "out the bushes/trees" bit!
I want the Aptera.

Too bad about Canoo. That was one I was excited about, but the CEO definitely gave me vaperware vibes.
CANOO is bankrupt... nice C tier. MKB is clueless.

When you see those Afeela, Dyson, Fisker, Faraday Future, Lucid all of them looks futuristic with software heavy and lots of giant screen all around the cabin... but Chinese EV companies already did all of that and already on the road on a massive scale.
The advantage they had is the complete supply chain :
1.. The complete ecosystem of the EV industry.
2. Total domination of raw materials.
3. Government support.
4. Battery tech and economies of scale of the battery industry.

Vaporware
Aptera should be waaaaay higher than others, it’s got the most realistic traction of any of those brands.
Also Dyson killed their car like 2 years ago
Seems to penalize companies taking years to ship like Aptera who is waiting for for all ducks unlike Fisker who shipped twice and failed twice.
2006, is quite a long time to wait on a promise
The company stopped in 2011. They started back up again in 2019 and started taking pre-orders in 2020. This is a massive misconception about Aptera.
@@MrStrife622 Yes, in fact it was December 2020, so it’s only been four years since the earliest reservations.
@KB3M Exactly. 💯
Fisker’s problem was it rushed a product to market that wasn’t ready. Aptera is taking the time to make sure they get it right.
I work for Honda and I have been working on the AFEELA for 2 years now. It is going Mass Production 2026 as promised.
Aptura is the company with the future at hand. I really hope they succeed.
Thank you. I have 100usd in their hands. 3 motor RHD and I'm buying.
aptera gonna be cool if they can get to volume production. Cheap-ish, long range, decent size, beautiful.
I hope the Aptera makes it , I ordered one and can almost afford it.
Almost 😂 better hope they are using their pre-2020 pricing
I’d bump the aptera up. Really hope the company can start cranking these out this year
“Keeping it going” - all the double meaning about coming out of the woods loool
Please go down to Aptera headquarters to check out their production ready vehicles they just put together. They would 100% give you a tour of the place and let you drive their prototype. I think after that you'd put them up to a B or if not an A because they also have the whole camping community on board.
Loved the video though. 👍🏼
TELO Trucks is another. They have a pretty active TH-cam channel showing progress on their little pickup. Similar looking to the Canoo one actually.
Hopefully we see a vid from Marques once TELO announces their new demo vehicles in the next few months. 🙏
It’s dead in the water as well
@@eugeneputin1858 that's not true - they're still a going concern. They might not make it but they haven't pulled a Fisker, Apple or Dyson yet.
Telo actually has a decent plan to become profitable at a low volume. They already have thousands of pre-orders and hopefully will ship the first batch within the next year.
Aptera is S-tier, they’re running the business as smart and good as possible
what is this easteregg-car at 8:29 on the left back seat ?
A noble haha, which was why he put it there when he said it
noble
Noble m600
You need to do all 3 to be a legit ev manufacturer:
1) Make EVs that people want to buy (price, performance, design)
2) Make these EVs at scale (1M/year)
3) Do 1 & 2 while making a profit per EV produced
The only companies that can do this are Tesla & BYD
You seem stuck on hating the Aptera. The sarcasm about the efficiency and having a different rating system betray your hate. Is this about getting to market, the tech advancement, or what? Sony rated higher without any build plans? What did Aptera do to you?
As far as a vehicle: what is the biggest obstacle holding back electric cars? Infrastructure. For most people's commute, the Aptera will eliminate the need to charge at home, which street parking prevents. Most families have only one person on kid duty during the commute, so two seats is a false excuse.
Lmao kills fisker and gave it an A. 16:34
Because it's better than other startup and this video is about startup. But it can't compete with major auto makers like tesla gm ford etc..
Putting Sony and FF above Aptera is wild when Aptera is literally testing production intent vehicles
100%
Like they have been for the past 6 years?
@@drunkenhobo8020 they haven't been doing that for the past 6 years. They've had multiple test iterations but they just made their PI vehicle a couple months ago
And either way still further along than Sony or FF
Came here for this too.
Canoo wasn't really cab forward. It was shaped like it ought to be cab forward, but the front seats were pretty far back. Telo is truly cab forward.
Take another look at Aptera. They just received an award ar CES, signed partnership deals, and working with Telo ro supply solar for their mini eTruck. PS, Aptera had a lot of fans, reservation holders, and investors at CES. Worrh another look and a better grade on your list. Plenty of Aptera fans watch your channel= a connection!
aptera mentioned
ive been waiting for this car so long
MK knowing that Aptera has vocal fans and not knowing that they relaunched the company 2019 is super ironic.
I automatically "like" now just because I find it hilarious his intro is coming out of the wooded area lol.
I actually like the Aptera. It's funky.
What Aptera is trying to do is inspiring and I fully support them. AutoFocus on the other hand...
I would put Aptera higher on my list
Aptera is a bit further along and definitely closer to production than he is letting on. They have over 50,000 pre-orders at this point and are testing production intent models.
I support Aptera, but their current prototypes stretch the definition of "production intent". They are largely composed of production intent parts, but also many that aren't quite there yet.
They are, at least, "production intent" enough to begin to test Aptera's projections regarding performance, efficiency, and safety. That's the important part and I look forward to seeing the results.
@ That’s fair. Exciting to see it all come together.
I think you are wrong about Aptera, there are many people who believe in efficiency, like Prius. Yes, they are not going to ship in millions, but they could sell 100k range every year. I wish them all the success.
Aptera D tier.... excuse me?... take it back that's a solid A or B
Happy to see any Aptera coverage from MKBHD ☀️
Aptera in D tier is a crime.
Is bait*
Can expect any better.. I haven't seen any videos on CyberFud from him.
idk, Aptera defiantly is going to have a niche and I think you're misinformed. none of this stuff is really out until it's out.
Aptera is the only one that has a small chance
I've reserved both the original concept Aptera and now the new solar version. I'm definitely waiting here!
Started the beard first?
I'd love to hear your take on Telo and your thoughts about their recently announced partnership with Aptera.
I don't understand the excitement over solar on the truck, but I am excited about what Telo could mean for the industry. A small, capable pickup instead of a giant ego stroking bully machine is a promising direction for vehicles to take.
Totally missed the mark rating the Aptera, should have been in S+++ tier
Dude, you have missed the boat on Aptera. Not teetering, about to deliver. No one else comes close to efficiency, aero specs, solar being effective.
Not even including the lack of charging stations and common knowledge of how to best use an EV and who they’re best for
Man, you are going to be shocked if Marques starts coveing thr nearly dozen EV start ups in China.
Here are the facts:
The first Aptera, Aptera 1.0, was indeed born in 2006, but was liquidated in 2011 for reasons I can't go into here.
"Here, one of Aptera vocal fans!" And somewhat of a ha1f-w1t.
"FYI, Aptera was not born in 2006 and have not been born and reborn several times since then, as you erroneously stated." first became a company in 2006 and reborn only once.
"Here are the facts:
The first Aptera, Aptera 1.0, was indeed born in 2006, but was liquidated in 2011 for reasons I can't go into here." Mainly not enough cash.
"Do your homework properly before making uninformed comments on a video broadcast on a public platform." Right back at you.
"It's just hard to imagine a tiny passenger vehicle like that succeeding in America" 8:39
"they've had thousands and thousands of reservations and they have very vocal fans" 9:15
Seems like a slight contradiction.
Bunch of concepts that are solutions to problems no one has. Why does the $90k Afeela need to exist? Who’s asking for these things?
i feel from this channel like every car in the US is a massive SUV that costs 100,000 dollars
Aptera should be in the a or B category and the afeela should be E
The Aptera is like the Tesla roadster, same idea.
I would so much like to see the Aptera succeed
