It is not possible to play the djembe several hours a day since early childhood without developing spectacular deformations of the hands. Among other deformations, they often have no flesh left in the pulp of the fingertips. There is nothing left between the bone of the last phalanx and the skin. This is what gives a strange shape to the nails.
