    WOW!!! This is incredible. I love the subtle transition of thickness going from the middle of the engines to the back thrusters. That is very impressive.

    • @nicktrotta
      @nicktrotta  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awww -- thank you so much! I'm glad you like it.l 🙏 It was fun to sort out how to achieve the subtle convergence, and shaping turned out just gradual enough not to leave very noticeable gaps either where it meets the "thruster" or further up the nacelle. The bottom proved challenging to fill in and I landed on a kind of "zipper" pattern there.

    This is beautiful in so many ways! The colors make remind me a lot of the new Lego space theme’s. I thought the magenta would feel out of place but it doesn’t. And the shapes and details are so interesting!! The way the wings connect together with what looks like a clip is neat, and then the supports for the wing from the nacelle look like something that would be used in real life for something like this!!! And all the ways you use to keep the whole thing connected is just so impressive!

      @nicktrotta  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Awww -- thanks for the extremely kind feedback. 🙏 I'm very happy you enjoyed the model! The process for me varies a bit model-by-model, but usually I have a very abstract idea on shaping and the start super-crude "sketching" with brick for individual areas of the ship. I don't try to make everything hang together, or try to make the geometry for individual parts actually work, but just want to see what shaping could feel satisfying. Usually there are facets or textures just sitting on stands that I can move around the worktable. It's a bit "outside in"? Things iterate from there... 🙂

    So many awesome elements, here! I certainly don't want to write off this insane amount of creativity and skill to create something like this... I've seen people put up MOCs of Samus' Gunship from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and they almost never do well, but this blows all of those out of the water, and has a very similar kind of design. It should absolutely be the standard for people trying to remake THAT ship (as impossible of a standard as it is, dude, you are a genius with this).
    I've been a fan of yours long enough to know that you don't like to do builds with a lot of moving parts, because it compromises the structural integrity of all of these carefully placed lines throughout your builds. Obviously, these are all physical builds, you're not using any kind of LEGO program to work these ideas out.
    But man, what a dream it would be to see you partner up with someone who is stone cold when it comes to the various Technic pieces and ins-and-outs of these various mechanics, and collaborate on something that manages to combine the best of both worlds, with your detailed shapes and smooth lines, with that added facet of, "Now, if you turn THIS knob here..." kind of eye candy... that would be AMAZING.
    Not gonna lie, specifically thinking of Sariel, of Sariel's Bricks and Pets. If the two of you put your heads together on something like this... holy shit.

    • @nicktrotta
      @nicktrotta  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for the thoughtful and kind feedback. 🙏 Appreciated!
      You're completely right about the lack of moving bits in my models. I find it challenging to conceive and execute that, and (as you noted) I usually like to reserve internal space to ensure a strong frame and to achieve certain external shaping. I also keep my models, but let them rest on a shelf, so there's not much "play" opportunity. The net result: they are super static.
      So your thought about collaboration with someone strong in that space is certainly a fun idea. 🤔 I have huge respect for those that work in those ways, and it would be enjoyable to have such direct access/inspiration/impact.
      Cheers!

    • @banahull7206
      @banahull7206 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I feel as though I should be more specific about what I meant, what I was referring to was more so the thrust.
      The ship build is super sleek and you've created a perfect balance of shape and color to create a sleek yet powerful look, though I feel this somewhat tappers off at the very back with the thrust. The thrust executed by the flat translucent imbedded bricks don't feel consistent with the amount of power or flare as I put it that I was expecting from what the design of the ship entailed.
      I don't think it needs anything too big or flashy that would distract from the main build. A different element of a similar size would do wonders, as currently the engine assemblies lead up to what you would expect to be an exhaust reflecting their power and sleekness that I feel is lacking.
      As a side note, this is probably personal preference but I think a trans orange for the exhaust might complement the magenta color more. Though the trans blue also works very nicely to create a more futuristic look.
      .....
      Overall this is just a small nitpick and I think you've absolutely nailed it out of the park with this ship. Truly you're one of the most talented lego designers I've seen out there.

    • @nicktrotta
      @nicktrotta  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! 🙏 I do indeed like to show some studs, I think it's a nice texture and a hint of the building medium. I even tried inverting some plates to show undersides this time around. To your question: I've definitely thought of retractable gears and may do so someday. I'm generally bad at building out play features, as I think of the models static on the shelf (and I don't like to lose interior "space" on the model hat may be needed for other thigns). But I hugely appreciate when other builders do this, and do it well, and feel inspiration to give it a proper go...someday. Cheers!

    Incredible as always! If you don't mind me asking, what is your design process like? Do you start with specific pieces or colors in mind? Do you have a specific shape you are going for, or do your builds 'evolve' as you are working on them?
    I am always so inspired by your intricate builds, and aspire to build something as detailed someday!

    • @nicktrotta

      I'm happy you enjoyed this one, and even took some inspiration! 🙏🙂 The process for each model is a bit different of course, but I usually start with major shapes, just crudely represented. I'll often have long 1x plates on the desk to represent certain edges, bits and pieces are on little mini-stands, and nothing is connected, and nothing is real. As you guessed, it 'evolves' from there, I'll play with sections. For about a the first 3rd of the process it's all facades, and then the second 3rd is making things real with a frame and actual geometry, adn the final 3rd is iterative refinement. Above all, I guess I just spend a long time noodling. Keep building! ❤️

      @brick_lizard ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicktrotta Thanks for your response! I'll have to give your process a try. I've never started with the rough shape first, I usually just let the shapes evolve as I build and try out different combinations of pieces.

    Bro this is absolutely insane levels of detail and crazy cool building techniques.
    When you flipped it over and showed us the underside my jaw dropped; I can only dream of ever building this well.
    What does the bricklink price look like?

      Aww, thanks so much! I'm happy you enjoyed the bottom 'flip'. ❤️😁 However, I don't know the pricing. I pulled from many different places, including my own bins, and including many elements I didn't end up needing. 😅

      @nicktrotta the only way this build could have been better (imo) is if any of the wings articulated. Seriously though when you think you've improved a ton you get reminded that you are no where close to the peak of skill; wow, just wow this build.

      Wow, it's brilliant that you're creating your own! I'm thrilled to hear that and hope you enjoy the build! ❤️ (I'd love to see a photo when complete, if possible! 😀) The waterslide decals I've used were picked up in Japan, from Gundam and other suppliers, across many different sheets. You might be able to find similar style (or even some of the same) from a local model shop or online sellers.

      Thanks! -- I'm happy you liked the model. 🙂 I'm not sure which element you're looking for, though... 🤔 I don't see that in the listed parts inventory for this model. Did you maybe mean part #3389? That didn't exist in stud.io at the time so I had to hack one up in partsdesigner from other elements.

    • @nicktrotta
      @nicktrotta  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! To create your own I think you'd need strong experience navigating cad files, procuring parts across different sources, and creating/recreating models from the community. To build up to that level of experience, I'd recommend starting 'smaller', recreating some simple community models, and then proceeding from there. 🙂
