I think apple should let designers/developers publish their watch faces to app store. I can see why they restricting it now to keep it clean but letting designers publish will give room for innovations.
I bought a Apple Watch almost a year ago, still have yet to find a use for it that justified spending so much for it. I should have just got a Fitbit watch.
Are any of the new faces coming to the series 3? It seems like they abandoned many new faces once the series 4 came out even though the large series 3 is just as large as the smaller series 4
Good question. I recall only seeing circular versions of the fullscreen faces on my series 2 and none of the infograph faces. I'll also add that although the 42mm series 3 clearly has a larger case than the 40mm series 4, the series 4 display is 19 sq mm larger (759 sq mm vs. 740).
I’m really glad that Siri can tell you what song is playing and show you webpages not continue on iPhone. I’m not happy that series 3 only gets 2 of the new watch faces and no new noise app even though it’s only 1 generation behind and is only almost 2 years old.
The harware in the series 3 can't do it. The hardware is getting better so fast, that things like that will keep happening until the progress starts slowing down - maybe in 3-5 years.
Love it. Thank you. One thing I think is missing is the availability or have my special ring and text tones be heard on my phone when I have my watch on. I have different tones for my different clients and it would be great to know who’s texting or calling with out looking especially when I’m busy training clients and can’t look. If the phone is open/unlocked the special tones play. If it’s in lock screen just my watch dings the same ding. Would love to be able to hear my text/ring tones, that I have paid for, when my phone is in lock screen.
Robert idonotsharemyfullname There is no doubt that Rene Ritchie likes Apple. I don’t think he has ever made that bias anything but overt. Having said that, he does point out flaws and wish lists, which gives him a quota of objectivity that is somewhat rare among technology reviewers.

I won't be happy with the Apple Watch until I can completely ditch the phone and go Watch/AirPods/iPad Pro. I'm still rocking the iPhone 8 because I use my phone so infrequently.
Voice Memos on the watch will be useful only if no one can see you’re recording. If there’s a bright red box blinking the whole time, I doubt I’ll be using it a lot. All other new features are, let’s be honest, not exactly earthshattering. I LOVE my AW4 though, it’s an amazing piece of technology for a fitness enthusiast.
I'm very happy about having a full rectangular watch face on my rectangular watch, because when I wear the watch as part of my dress code, I very much like it to be a Watch, no complications of any kind, just a watch. I have always understood the battery issues that results in not enabling always on capability but I have never understood why it has to be the Hermes version only that could be proud of it's rectangular shape.
Really nice roundup. FWIW, watchkit isn't directly impacted by SwiftUI. SwiftUI (as the name suggests) is a UI frameowk, whereas watchkit is more of a SDK for interfacing with the watch;s capabilities. Before SwiftUI watchos just used plain old UIKit, same as iOS.

WatchOS 6 doesn’t seem to be as much of a game changer as iOS 13. REALLY glad a bunch of the iPad features will be on iPhone too like full page screenshots.

They need to add more sport tracking features to watchOS, more depth to the workouts apps. I hope they do it with their next apple watch. They do that and I will switch from my Garmin.
Speaking of watchOS and public betas, perhaps the series 5 watch could have some hardwire mechanism to downgrade the OS. It’s likely that everyone would benefit from this, included. SwiftUI should also make new Apps possible that weren’t before, it could be a quantum leap.

Missing: 1) A notification for when your phone and watch break Bluetooth connection. Something that lets you know you’re leaving your phone behind. 2) “Find My” for WatchOS. Not everyone carries around an iPad and/or Mac everyday all day or has access one. Would be nice to locate a lost iPhone directly from the watch when time is of the essence for recovery. We have “Find Friends” on watch, why can’t we have “Find My?”

Definitely a ‘deep dive’ as usual👍 it’s good that the Apple Watch has more independent functionality but most people will remain in the Apple ecosystem if they have the Watch even if it becomes 100% independent so I’m not sure the in Watch App Store is that game changing? I like my current Apple Watch but wow, this update make me hate it. Siri?? Absolutely sucks, especially compared to Alexa. The updated health app? Decibel check? Cycle monitoring? Talk about being WAY TOO intrusive. I’m tuning off half of this crap and will NEVER use Siri.

There's probably some misunderstanding here. I don't anyone to be overly negative or criticising apple for things they done right. It's just not that watchOS 6 changes EVERYTHING and what other praises there have been from Rene in the past. I like his work and I appreciate the time he puts into producing his video. I just don't like that he tends to not put things in perspective a lot but instead is mostly overly positive and enthusiastic. I think it's okay for a fanboy but I also think he wants to taken seriously as a tech/apple journalist. Most of these faces are gonna look good on the Series 4 only, whatever fills the whole display. I’ll be keeping my Series 3 Space black anyway

It's ok to recognise when Apple are doing well and not overly criticise constantly in the name of clicks. The internet has trained us all to be incredibly negative, and from my perspective it's refreshing to find positivity.
Yes, with the shortage of negative people at an all time high, please stop being positive. and the titles?? C'Mon man get negative. How about WatchOS6 this changes everything but in a bad way! When you have nothing to say always lean on Your click baiting. New slogan Keep Helmi Happy be miserable!
There's probably some misunderstanding here. I don't anyone to be overly negative or criticising apple for things they done right. It's just not that watchOS 6 changes EVERYTHING and what other praises there have been from Rene in the past. I like his work and I appreciate the time he puts into producing his video. I just don't like that he tends to not put things in perspective a lot but instead is mostly overly positive and enthusiastic. I think it's okay for a fanboy but I also think he wants to taken seriously as a tech/apple journalist. Hopefully the tone of my feedback wasn't off - in case it was I very much apologize for it, i'm obviously not a native english speaker and wasn't meaning to hurt anyones feeling.
