The system of military rank in place for the Marines is fairly straightforward, where each rank is clearly outlined. The Marines can be divided into two basic categories: Officers and Infantry. The officers hold a position of leadership while the infantry carry out the officers' orders.
That's the same thing in real life. I was in the military as a "Marine" hilariously. And there is enlisted and officer. Enlisted ranks = Private, Sergeant, etc. did a lot of ground work (hands on) usually led by officers in charge. Officer = lieutenant, Captain, General did a lot of paperwork and led enlisted to do the work. There is more to it honestly, but this is pretty much the system. Which is similar to One Piece military.
Correction: most recruits start off as seaman recruits, choreboy is an unofficial rank given to under qualified or under aged people like coby or helmeppo. If all recruits had to go through the chore an phase there would be a lot more chore bots in the series
Excellent stuff. You explained the WG and the one Piece story basically in great detail. It's truly an enormous, fascinating world that Oda-sama has built that feels alive and connected.
Rank Insignia The Marines do not have a system of rank insignia per se. However, there is a significant variation in the kinds of uniforms worn by Marines of different rankings, with many opting to wear a variety of dress showcasing their own eccentric style. However, as a general rule, uniform guidelines are as follows:[12] Upon first entering the Marines, new recruits are given the standard uniform, consisting of a white short-sleeved button-up shirt displaying the Marine emblem, a simplified seagull, with "MARINE" underneath it on the back, and two horizontal blue lines around the collar; a blue neckerchief; dark blue trousers; and a white baseball cap, aqua-green in the front, with "MARINE" across the front in blue letters. All officers at the rank of Seaman (一等兵, Ittōhei?) and below wear this. Originally, Marines were known to wear dark brown shoes with dusty-blue colored tape tied around their ankles. Later in the series, the standard footwear was changed to black boots. The quasi-rank of "Chore Boy" (雑用, Zatsuyō?) adds the kanji 雑 Zatsu ("various" or "odds and ends") to the sleeves, which are slightly longer, and to the Marine emblem on the back. Once an officer has reached the rank of Petty Officer (伍長, Gochō?), he or she can choose from a number of different uniforms, including his or her own personal clothes. Only those who want to appear "sailor-like" will continue to wear a more traditional uniform. This uniform is generally the standard Marine infantry outfit, but with the addition of red and blue epaulettes. Sailors at the rank of Ensign (少尉, Shōi?) and above are allowed to wear the coat with "Justice" (正義, Seigi?) on the back. This coat tends to be worn like a cape, draped over the shoulders with the arms not in the sleeves. It should be noted that the sleeves of these coats are often much longer than the wearers' arms. For the rank of Lieutenant-Commander (少佐, Shōsa?) and above, a suit worn underneath the "Justice" coat is the preferred attire. Individual officers are free to choose the suit's color and pattern. There are, of course, exceptions: Jango and Fullbody wear their own clothes with the "MARINE" hat, despite holding the rank of "Seaman Recruit" (三等兵, Santōhei?). This may have something to do with the exceptional circumstances by which both of these men were brought into their present situation (Jango been a former pirate with a bounty and Fullbody being a Lieutenant who was demoted), the leniency of their commanding officer, or just the fact that the dress code is not strictly enforced. Also, low rank soldiers stationed at G-5 tend to not wear the full uniform due to their disregard for the rules, to the point of wearing slacks and/or wearing a bucket as a hat. Some high ranking officers are also known to disregard the standard dress code. Smoker continues to be shirtless under his jacket, which he wears under his marine officer coat. Admiral Fujitora also foregoes the conventional suit and tie, and retains his personal clothes underneath his Marine coat. Some Marines, particularly high-ranking ones, have special custom colors in their coats. While Sengoku was an admiral, his Marine coat sported red epaulettes, instead of the usual yellow that is commonly worn by an admiral. Garp and Tsuru also wear their special epaulettes, as Garp wears red and black, while Tsuru wears purple with white dot epaulettes, and Zephyr's were blue. Similarly, top ranked Marines' coats also have custom-colored cuffs, with the Admirals for example having all of their coat cuffs match their color scheme. The system of military rank in place for the Marines is fairly straightforward, where each rank is clearly outlined. The Marines can be divided into two basic categories: Officers and Infantry. The officers hold a position of leadership while the infantry carry out the officers' orders. A Marine force will usually consist of one or two officers and multiple infantry soldiers. Commanding Marines often work in pairs, with one superior officer and a second-in-command, or a subordinate who is of a lower rank. These partnerships may remain even during promotions, with both Marines advancing in rank together. In the pair, the higher ranked officer will give the orders to those under their command, while the other acts as an advisor or information gatherer while ensuring their partner's command is undertaken by the subordinates. Higher ranking Marines are noticeably stronger than lower ranked ones; the admirals in particular are known as the World Government's Ultimate Powerhouses. Officers and recruits stationed at Marine Headquarters are considered "super-elites". All ranks present from "Lieutenant" above are usually trained here, exceptions being those in command of other Marine bases, which includes Axe-Hand Morgan and Nezumi. It appears that higher ranked Marine Officers have the authority to poach subordinates from Marine Officers of a lower rank, as seen when Vice Admiral Garp transferred Koby and Helmeppo to his command from Commander Ripper.
You legend. Thanks for the video! Cleared up a lot and actually got me way more hyped for the final saga, even though I haven’t read the manga and are just watching chapter breakdowns.
At this point the WG is more of a final boss than Blackbeard now. Especially since Luffy is essentially Nika now. The war that happened 800 years ago is starting to brew again right now. Just a bigger threat and to many heavy hitters for the straw hats to take on. 3 maybe 2 admirals if fujitora turns, a fleet admiral in Akainu, a commander in chief, possibly some stronger members in CP0. On top of their public forces they still have to worry about 5 secret mythological zoan df users in the Gorosei, 9 holy knights and then Imu on top of that.
Did you hear the one about Luffy? Never mind its too much of a stretch. Why isn't Zoro the captain? He just couldn't cut it. Why would Nami make a terrible vet? She's a cat burglar. What colour is Sanji's bedroom? All blue. What Usopp's favourite instrument? The lyre. What does Chopper and a heptagon have in common? 7 points What kind of race would Robin be best at? An arms race Who's Franky's favourite comic book character? SUPERRRRman What's Brooke's favourite action film? The Bone Identity YOHOHOHO
Another great video. I've always been a little unclear on what Kong actually does. we haven't seen him meeting with the Gorosei or Sakazuki. Bit off topic but when we learned Seastone originated in Wano, I thought we'd learn the World Government acquired it through their trade deal with Orochi.
9:22 one more thing i feel is misisng from vice admiral segment is how within this rank there is a high variance in strength. I suggest this mostly because vice admiral is often the career end for several marines. Due to how the next rank (i.e., admiral) is limited to 3, and it seems admirals can keep the position for life (i.e., no term situation).
i just thought of this, but imagine (as per different theories) the devils within the devil fruits are actually soul/wishes of the D. clan people who died during the void century and possible b4 that asw. this would kinda explain why people fear devil fruits( thats wat imu/WG planned so that people dont eat and use these powers) and why some are more powerful/superior to others.. cuz some people were stronger than others and/or had stronger wishes/wills to be passed on
I'm willing to guess that D. stands for Demigod, who were supposed to be the true inheritors, not the Celestial Dragons, and the CDs ancestors were the ones that tried to kill the majority of the Ds(nutz). As the OG D's died, their hearts& powers went into fruits to try to help their chosen Users have some power. While Nika was the Sun God that represents Freedom and bonds by emotion, Imu is the opposite. Imu could be a surviving/rogue Moon God that represents Order and bonds by logic: he seems to have power over the oceans, is JoyBoys enemy while also seeing the Nika fruit as a threat, is the true head of the WG, and his original God form could be why DF uses are hated by God(Moon God). It's also a theme throughout OP that it's Freedom VS Order: Freedom to live& enjoy but have criminals & Order in society&security but have corruption. Pirates have their own societies on Fleets, Yonkos, and personal strength, the WG uses Warlords, human experiments, and genocide for secrecy
Still find it interesting that they are called “The Marines” when their entire rank structure is based on the Navy and the characters on all their buildings say “Navy” on them
I just think of it now, maybe Blackbeard is basically 1st clone made by vegapunk who genetic properties came from xebec which has the mythical devil fruit also. That answer the question why he can eat multiple devil fruits since he is actually a cyborg that has traits of xebec.
I think the Blackbeard Pirates vs straw hats will be a Davy Back Fight. I think they will have to fight the Blackbeard pirates in more of a group fight instead of 1v1s that we are used to getting. Based off Foxy, that was a watered down version of this era’s Davy Back fight but I think Rock’s era had the original (violent) which they ended up losing.
Mr. Morj has produced a video on how nobody understands Garp. Produced explains very well why our perspective on marines is skewed by the story and why Marines are the only good faction in the story.
I don’t get Ohara some times. Man puts a spoiler warning for Imu. But completely blurts out the fact that Luffy is joyboy and that technology used to be incredibly advanced. Like bruh. Just put the warning at the start of the video…
Dang, the editing was off twice for this video. It's okay Ohara, we all make mistakes. Showing the vice admiral instead of rear admiral words and then showing the vice admirals at marineford twice. Also O'Hara says CP9 when he meant to say CP0 around 13:20
Im guessing the void century has some kinda information on how imu became as powerful as he is said to be, or tells some kinda weakness for him or way to kill him which is why he wants all mentions of it wiped from history
Add a pvp mechanic for people who choose “pirate” and there bounty goes up the more crimes they commit , any other player can claim the bounty except other pirates since criminals. Crews = guilds / marines = like a hord vs alliance concept except maybe add civilian classes and stuff .
The further I go into it, the more I realize both the marines and world government can be the end game challenge. I can see Imu getting sent down through the red line and then we have a final climactic fight with Akainu.
I love these kind of videos a lot from ohara unlike the what if video I don't want to bum you down and i'd upport you in anything you'd do but if you could do more canon stuff or theorie videos and less what ifs pls ❤
Hey O’Hara, I’m trying to guess who will be the next Khalid Amaral after sakazuki resigns or dies, and don’t say kuzan, he’s gone, he quit he can’t come back
the marines are the ones who give the island more trouble and its the same if the island falls under the command of someone like Kaido as well. so we cant consider the marines as heroes because for the majority of the scenarios, we see them become the negative influence. For eg, Axe Hand Morgans son helmeppo and marine were literally terrorizing a little girl from the island, marines took bribe from arlong to keep quiet and many more. it feels more like to the world and all its population its better to be under Luffy or Shankses Crew
Thanks for the likes guys, its good to know that there is someone awake and able to make the obvious connections. Oda is a genius, people have no idea what kind of knowledge of the world this guy dominates.
@@777mustdie all the connection points are scary... what impressed me the most was the lost history part, because the same happens in reality. In the last years there was a lot of major findings reading lost ancient civilizations that have a deep connection with the creation of the human species. And there is also a deep connection beetwen the lost civilizations and the current people who run the world. And if you take into a account the recent chapter 1094, that shows to us that the gorosei are demons... even that is a parallel with the current baphomet / elite connection... all this is very strange and I do not know what to think about this
@@followthewhiterabbit13Moreover, in real world there is some people researching the "alternative history", which claims a lot of things such as that the Gregorian calendar was invented to erase/rewrite many events of that Era and the past! because you cant really have the greatest empire (Roman) if there was even greater (ancient empire). as for Oda I believe he is the truth seeker and he knows a lot about religions/politics/history/human nature etc, and despite that Luffy itself is "silly", its just a cover up to show to us the "serious" things later on, he will enlighten MANY ppl around the world indirectly, which is genius
Thanks for your outstanding presentation(video). However, you have missed the main pillar of the world government force; and that is the military. Fujitora "the new marin admiral", who came from the military drifts as he admitted to Duflamingo in Dressrossa arch.
I don't watch or read much One Piece but based on the video, i like to think the world of One Piece is just like the world of Kenshi, Desert Punk and/or Warhammer, and that it's way past a crazy world ending war that saw all technology and civilization collapse and the 20 Kingdoms and that Imu guy were post apocalyptic warlords who rebuilt society piece by piece with them on top. Imu is the god emperor, the 5 Elders are the perpetuals, the Celestial Dragons are like the High Lords of Terra, Marines are the IG, Admirals are the Primarchs. Maybe even Earth exists in One Piece and the planet we see is a terraformed mess, that's why there's all this weird stuff going around.
One piece sounds alike like reality if u study the esoteric and conspiracies. Joy boy, the void period, corrupt government, the technological regression, and most of all a character name dragon leading the rebellion. Just food for thought!
I have an irrelavant question to the topic here, but since it's the newest video, I thought I'd ask it here. So, how free is Nika, actually? We all know its freedom is limited to the user's imagination. But can it in fact do "anything"? For example, in the last chapter where Luffy eats Kizaru's beam and then projects it, if I were Luffy, I would have swallowed that beam to integrate it with my own DNA to consequently use it in my fights 'cause that's how my imagination works. And since I'm all rubbery, I don't believe that the beam would hurt me if I ate it. Actaully, it's not just limited to that! If I imagine that I could disintegrates my body into tiny parts (much like Buggy), could it happen in reallity? Is Nika actually capable of that much? Because if that's the case, well, I'll leave it to your imagination! I'd like to know your opinions on the matter.
i think its going to be a three way war a civil war between the marines and at the same time a war between Luffy’s Fleet and Territories and world government
One piece is about real life event. Ambition in life. Government who control the world not what you think. D clan is from different planet aka lizard people. Cp0 is like FBI. Elders and imu is like who controls the world secretly. Akainu is like president who just flow the orders from higher up.
Hi, great video, but Garp deserves a mention that although he's a vice-admiral, he's been offered the position of admiral but declined and likely is more powerful than anyone else in the Marines 😁🤙
Sometimes think when the world government was created who were the first admirals and fleet admiral And this let me want to know all about one piece history even every single part of it😊
the Sword Elder looks like a problem, Zoro has some leveling up to do...the whole crew has to level up except for Robin she tapped into her new abilities
Rob Lucci doesn't believe in anything but the thrill of the kill, and he'd likely join anyone who'd give him that excuse. I believe Sakazuki does believe in something tangible by comparison.
I feel that the world goverment will always exist so that Luffy and his crew can be free. bc other wise it wouldent be any rules for Luffy to break? Doing what he wants to do with no response is to be free.
Most likely, yeah. The real difference is that it will no longer be authorized through a corrupt and oppressive oligarch like the celestial dragons/gorosei/Enu. It will likely be run by diplomatic democracy of all the countries/kingdoms of the world.
14:52 not once tho, i think it was 2 times, 1st is Kuma being tasked and sent to thriller bark to help Moria assasinate luffy, 2nd is the marineford where all Shicibukai being tasked to help with the war
if I can give some constructive criticism, I think the "swap" SFX was overused in the first 3mins of the vid. Like, you get to notice how repetitive it is.
I have a good theory the straw hat is the one piece shanks gave it to luffy because he knew luffy was worthy of it and pure hearted and joyboy the first king of the pirates had a strawhat and Roger did to
Are referring to the hat being worn by luffys or the big one being locked away? Because the latter one needs to be unlocked somehow while the further one is already being worn by luffy. But you're definitely onto something
This is actually a perfect introductory video on the best features of One Piece woldbuilding in general. Bravo Ohara!
He was anything but perfect. Too many mistakes.

Yh
We gonna make it out the playground with this one
Hi and great vid👍
That bribed marine is not a cat, but a mouse. Supposed to symbolize that he’s a rat.
W OHARA THANK YOU FOR THIS
What happens in one piece also happens in real life in case you didnt notice, including the lost history and evil world government part
Thanks for the likes guys, its good to know that there is someone awake and able to make the obvious connections. Oda is a genius, people have no idea what kind of knowledge of the world this guy dominates.
Yeah, I've noticed this since Ussop burned the flag of World. Gov in Enes Lobby
Im glad that there is some ppl like you understand the depth of this story :)
After the timeskip we where introdiced to Cp-9 again, which is basically the same group. NO WAY LADD XD 13:15
Smoker❌ this smoking dude ✅
The cat-faced marine is actually mouse-faced as he has mouse ears on his hood
Thanks for your outstanding presentation(video). However, you have missed the main pillar of the world government force; and that is the military. Fujitora "the new marin admiral", who came from the military drifts as he admitted to Duflamingo in Dressrossa arch.
Imu and Gorosei literally have the power, yet their incompetence is way above ridiculous.
Finally been Waiting for this
I was just watching loguetown in one piece when zoro met tashigi then you talked about tashigi what a coincidence
Why is your editor using that swipe sound effect so much😂. I heard it then couldn't unhear it.
One piece sounds alike like reality if u study the esoteric and conspiracies.
Joy boy, the void period, corrupt government, the technological regression, and most of all a character name dragon leading the rebellion. Just food for thought!
Captain Smoker is one of the very few marines Luffy doesn't want to fight again.
Oda be like "I guess this is Spiderman Homecoming 😅😂"
So a hybrid navy & the warlords, equal swords
"shanks for watching" 25:45
Aye man I’m just trying to listen to this in the back, that swapping sound effect gets pretty annoying
Keep up the awesome work and videos ohara love the video
What if video idea: What if Luffy's, Kid's and law's crew get together to form a single crew with them as captains in sabaody archipelago.🤔
Love your Videos and your channel❤ but the scene switching sounds were way too many.
The transition sound is going to make me lose my mind
i think its going to be a three way war a civil war between the marines and at the same time a war between Luffy’s Fleet and Territories and world government
Great video
Cant believe that Coby is at the same rank as Axe Hand Morgan and the Rat dude
Well garp trained him and probably recommended him
And imagine how all of this mind blowing stuff is written by a old guy , "oda d goat" 🐐
Video idea: What if Luffy had no fruit and instead used a sword?
that"s just zoro dumb ash
Video idea : what if luffy died instead of ace
One piece is about real life event. Ambition in life. Government who control the world not what you think. D clan is from different planet aka lizard people. Cp0 is like FBI. Elders and imu is like who controls the world secretly. Akainu is like president who just flow the orders from higher up.
vice admirals and admirals are so far apart in strength yet during the time skip two vice admirals just suddenly became admirals during the timeskip
Umm what. Fujitora and greenbull were never vice admiral they where drafted to the marines.
Hi, great video, but Garp deserves a mention that although he's a vice-admiral, he's been offered the position of admiral but declined and likely is more powerful than anyone else in the Marines 😁🤙
Sometimes think when the world government was created who were the first admirals and fleet admiral
And this let me want to know all about one piece history even every single part of it😊
The World Government reminds me a lot to the Galactic Empire from Star Wars.
Great work O'Hara keep going
that swishing sound really made the video unwatchable
Video idea: what if luffy was a swordsman
Video Idea: What if Luffy ate his devil in the second half and trained haki or swordsmanship early?
The highest Marine rank is *d. Goat*
The only marine to reach this rank is *Garp D. Goat* .
Please tone down the edits and sound effects. Giving me headache
the Sword Elder looks like a problem, Zoro has some leveling up to do...the whole crew has to level up except for Robin she tapped into her new abilities
How tf did Oda even come up with all these?💀🐐
@@siuu156 idkkkkk…..
There's also G5 smoker and tashiki were part of this group
The marine captain that stole from Nami was a mouse, not a cat. His name is even a reference to the japanese word for mouse.
Also, are you sure Rob Lucci and sakazuki aren’t related because both share top dark absolute justice
Rob Lucci doesn't believe in anything but the thrill of the kill, and he'd likely join anyone who'd give him that excuse. I believe Sakazuki does believe in something tangible by comparison.
"Actually" overload
I feel that the world goverment will always exist so that Luffy and his crew can be free. bc other wise it wouldent be any rules for Luffy to break? Doing what he wants to do with no response is to be free.
Most likely, yeah. The real difference is that it will no longer be authorized through a corrupt and oppressive oligarch like the celestial dragons/gorosei/Enu. It will likely be run by diplomatic democracy of all the countries/kingdoms of the world.
Bruh forgot about Kong's existence and rank 💀
Seriously nigga 16:45
Right 😁but I don't blame him through🤣
Hey he did mentioned around 16:48 sorry I overlooked that
@@satyen4659oh my bad, thanks for pinpointing it
Wait who?
14:52 not once tho, i think it was 2 times, 1st is Kuma being tasked and sent to thriller bark to help Moria assasinate luffy, 2nd is the marineford where all Shicibukai being tasked to help with the war
Bro the way he said seaman
Garp does whatever he wants? His grandchild killed in front of him...
if I can give some constructive criticism, I think the "swap" SFX was overused in the first 3mins of the vid. Like, you get to notice how repetitive it is.
100% True
I have a good theory the straw hat is the one piece shanks gave it to luffy because he knew luffy was worthy of it and pure hearted and joyboy the first king of the pirates had a strawhat and Roger did to
Are referring to the hat being worn by luffys or the big one being locked away? Because the latter one needs to be unlocked somehow while the further one is already being worn by luffy.
But you're definitely onto something
Hi ohara
Glory to the World Government. May the reign of Imu the Illustrious last eternal!
@@josephbulkin9222 jhahahaha
I used to watch your stuff but can't anymore.
Too many cuts, zooms and swiping sounds for me.
Whoever’s reading this I hope you have a great day and I hope your family is wealthy and healthy
