  • Matera is one of the oldest cities in the world and was an absolute surprise for us. It's biblical, magical and just awesome! Having been continually inhabited since 7000 BC it can stake its claim to being one of the oldest cities in the world for sure!
Join us for a walking tour around some of the highlights of Matera with ancient cave dwellings, hundreds of winding stone stairs linking tiny cobbled streets and amazing panoramic views. We only had a few hours to take it all in, you will want to spend a full day to experience everything Matera has to offer.

Visited Matera approx 15 years ago when Mateta was still mostly abandoned but on the brink of revival. It was beautyfull, part deserted part bustling with life.

Just visited Matera two weeks ago and I was speechless (in addition to being breathless from all the climbing and walking). Really a stunning city and your video portrays it perfectly. Thanks for revealing it to me, before I actually visited it.

Matera is amazing. It's a really '3D' city when you look at it, and no photos or videos can do it justice.
Also, I had my best meal in Italy there (and that's saying something!)

Those aren't tuctucs, they are "Piaggio" "Ape". Piaggio is the same maker of "Vespa". Ape meaning bee and vespa meaning wasp. They were especially designed for Italian narrow and steep streets. Piaggio Ape are iconic. They were used to transport almost everything especially for small businesses or merchants 🙂

No we were touring in a car for 10 days. I would ima get you can get a taxi there it would take one hour though, and I expect it would be around 70 to 100 euros each way! Quite a lot for not much time in the town.
