What rubbish. Alberto made the Munay Ki up. I was working for him at the time and watched it happen. And this explanation isn’t even close to what he did. This mixes explanations of two other traditional Quechuan initiations, the Kawak and the Bands of Power in which have nothing to do with it. And then adds loads of made up garbage like claiming being higher up a mountain is closer to spirit as if spirit is in the sky and not all around us. This whole talk is an abomination of misinformation

This is something I wish more people actively knew, that the rites of the Munay Ki are actually a newer system, and a dilution of original teachings. With that being said, however, that doesn't mean the rites of the Munay Ki aren't valuable for our times. Especially in a very disconnected Western world. Will this make people shamans? Fuck no. Will it give them a better understanding of the culture in which it was birthed? I doubt it very much. But this isn't the first time I've seen Andean and Peruvian mysteries expressed to the Western audience. As someone who holds Munay Ki, it compliments a Reiki practice (that's really what it is, a shamanic reiki). But Munay Ki will never be the ancestral holding ad teachings of the People like Quechua. This really is a white man's bridging and dilution for a Western audience.
alberto doen't hide that he has altered the practices for the uninitiated. I remember reading in his books that he did indeed alter the teachings to suit people not directly under the guidance of the peruvian shamans.
