+stubkar Its perfect. Something else created that band. It was their talent for sure but something else , a supernatural force guided them along the way. If you listen to the story it is eerie no question.,
I love Sabbath because they are somehow cathartic while also provoking intense happiness. Alot of metal is amazing but too much of it displaces that feeling. They are the perfect ☯️
HA HA HA! Just showed this to my third grade class. We are doing a unit on the physics of sound. We discussed how after his accident, Tony needed different strings and had to loosen the tension on his guitar which made the pitch much lower. The kids loved it and it was fun for me to share a little metal history while teaching the standards. Thanks TMS!!!!
\m/ Tony Iommi, lead guitarist , he lost 2 fingers and it made him the legend he is today, And he got over his cancer, this guy is a true hero. Here's the legend of what he came to be. People like this are an inspiration to me because he never gave up even if he was facing the odds playing the electric guitar.
everything aside, Tony created a genre, pretty much, of music. Not a well appreciated player, rooted in jazz and swing rather than the pure blues of his contemporaries, he forged not only a unique sound but a style of heavy rock that had really no parallel at the time. Seems he and Sabbath generally are more appreciated now, but still I do not think his creativity gets enough credit when compared to other guitarists of his generation.
Hollywood should make biopic movie of this man. Some film production company should hire a screenwriter and assign him to make a script based on this man's life. Incredible story he has.
Just think. At the time Tony thought his music career was over. Couldn't go on tour with this band. But in the end, this event made him more successful than he ever would've been without it. Goes to show that sometimes bad things can be a blessing in disguise
It was around 1970 in the basement of a friends house when I first heard Black Sabbath and that dark guitar sound .Up until that point I liked pop and country .
I love the story of an artist, musician who really pursue their dreams despite of adversities or lets say disability..they really put their heart and soul to their craft..thats amazing.
Being from the Detroit area and hearing your favorite guitarist from your favorite band refer to Birmingham as the UK’s version of Detroit is very inspiring.
This guy is a litteral legend. A Hero, a true Metal God. Kinda reminds me of Tyr who traded his hand for peace with Fenrir. Tomy traded his fingers to create the greatest music to ever exist on Earth. ( I don't know if the album was a kind of reference )
Correction: Several people are responsible. Tony's mom, the one who assigned him to that monster, the manager that inspired him, and Tony himself for using that monster and made his prosthesis and guitar technique.
2:12 Because the lightest gauge of strings from those days were very heavy for him, so he had to use the lightest gauge of Banjo Strings (they're lighter in gauge than those Strings) so he can create an Ultra Light String set.
Tonny Iommi is my all-time fave metal guitarist. His story is inspiring, and he invented heavy metal! That first Black Sabbath album gave the world a sound it never heard before!
I'd love to ask the 9 people who gave this a thumbs down why they did it. Great story that's true, Tony is humble and likable and doesn't even say "it lead to me creating heavy metal" when he had every reason that he could have said that, and the art and animation is fantastic. Some people are just always going to be pricks.
I think it's because this came into their TH-cam feed & they didn't want to see more videos like it, so they did thumbs down on it. They probably listen to boy bands & beiber...
This man is a god. I was lucky to watch him play with Sabbath in Hamilton Ontario last year. I was 15 feet away from the stage in the arena and it was insane. The guy is the father of metal and he is more badass now than ever. Tony I hope you pull though your treatments. Nothing can kill the creator of all things heavy!! Rock on .
cool vid but I wanted the one where he appeared on the show; specifically the one where he said "Well, you know, Ritchie Blackmoore is a "genius" and can do whatever he wants, but the rest of us have rules we must live by"
Tony Iommi worked at a sheet metal factory, and his two fingers were chopped off by a metal cutter. Taking advantage of his injury he downtuned his strings and created heavy metal. Doesn't get any more metal than that.
So ..the factory manager is really the inventor of heavy metal music bcuz If he didint told him about jango R... Tony never came back took a guitar....LOL
I got my thumb pulled between the gears of a sewer cleaning machine it messed it up pretty bad I still wanna learn to play guitar. This gives me some hope that I could one day.
The factory manager had no idea how influential his words and support were. He thought he was just consoling a poor kid he felt responsible for, but Tommy himself says it was the reason he didn’t give up and pushed to overcome his new disability.
@UCyueENpNdacHF82fUrcDkVw Tony took a set of 12's threw away the Low E String, & added on a High A String from a Tenor Banjo set so he could have a set of 9's (or thinner) that are still tuned E-E but are looser & much easier on his Fretting Hand, I believe lots of players did this method.
"man , Tony is the true meaning of "what doesn't kill you , makes you stronger
Can we keep this comment with 666 likes cause it looks cooler under a Black Sabbath video
So, heavy metal was invented because of a piece of heavy metal? Woah.
Dr. Awkward Yeah fitting huh?
+Dr. Awkward It's Ironic
+Josh Morris hahaha it took some seconds! ;)
that's good.
+stubkar Its perfect. Something else created that band. It was their talent for sure but something else , a supernatural force guided them along the way. If you listen to the story it is eerie no question.,
Tony must be a very strong person to have endured that accident and cancer. I don't follow Black Sabbath, but I really admire him.
Tony****
Oops---thanks.
I love Sabbath because they are somehow cathartic while also provoking intense happiness. Alot of metal is amazing but too much of it displaces that feeling. They are the perfect ☯️
Do yourself a favor, and follow Black Sabbath. Or at least listen to their old music, which was some of the very best.
isn't it awesome how heavy metal music came to be as a result of a freak accident, and how that accident (losing fingers) was actually pretty metal?
All heavy music owes Tony a huge debt. He is the man!!
So true man
Seems like Tony owes a huge debt to his old boss for the visit and the story about Reinhardt.
AND the foreman!
HA HA HA! Just showed this to my third grade class. We are doing a unit on the physics of sound. RJ D you must be a great teacher, I bet the kids will remember that for life!
You sound like the best teacher
Is it sad that I thought you were a third grade student and not a teacher...
Aren't 8 yr olds a little young to grasp the physics of sound??
Metal teacher... I wish there were more of you.
God bless Tony, the father of Heavy Metal.
so this is how Tony got his powers.
AMEN!
Iomi is a very humble, pleasant guy. More celebrities should be like that.
MERLE CELESTE BROWNLEE he is a very cool person
Like Johnny Depp
he almost smashed lita's head tho.
Lita who

He still has to have blood tests every 6 weeks to see if his cancer has come back.....
He didn't lose "two fingers"--he lost "finger TIPS"...
He's the inventor of heavy metal
Tony Iommi opened my ears to real music, that was 1975 , I was 11 :-)
The part when he says: "i had invented a new thing, a good thing" gave me goosebumps.
So thanks to Tony's mum we have heavy metal...
mom is mom you know
My mother was a witch
Dhe was burned alive
@@marcopolio6591 thankless little bitch
I bet his mom felt super bad at first. Technically it's her fault he lost the tips of his fingers.
This is so fucking amazing, a new sound invented out of an accident. He didnt give up, instead he invented his own way. Iommy deserves a nobel.
that manager saves tony from giving up on playing guitar. tony owes alot to that factory manager. whoever is that man, you're a hero dude.
Most important people in metal. Tony's mother, his manager and that belgian guitarist.
everything aside, Tony created a genre, pretty much, of music. John Giancarlo totaly agree with u man
Tony top 5 guitar player in my book
The guy can shred just as well as he riffs.
Yup. Imo sabbath is in a league of their own that has never been replicated by anyone else
Great video and great idea. It deserves more appreciation.
thanks diemmeti we think so too :) \m/
+diemmeti I broke my ring finger do I can bend it for shit so I cant play things that require 4 fingers
More and more and more than we all could imagine.
2:44 Tony hooked his Guitar up to the Bass Socket of his Guitar amp to get more oomph, & Boom he's rocking.
Riff Master extraordinaire, Tony Iommi! Black Sabbath! The Godfathers of Metal! My personal all-time favorite band.
ladies and gentleman that's how Tony The RiffLord Iommi was born
Hollywood should make biopic movie of this man. Some film production company should hire a screenwriter and assign him to make a script based on this man's life. Incredible story he has.

man i've watched this like 5 times because it's that amazing the art-style und music and everything is just great
Someone should show this to Tony!
This is brilliant. I could never picture the story this well before

If you go through the sequence..you could argue that Tony's Mom is responsible for us having Heavy Metal.

I remember seeing this on TV when I was younger, amazing how Black Sabbath got it's iconic sound from one accident.
watching this over and over again
The best Tony interview on TH-cam

Tony iommi the best guitar! ✌😎🎶🎼😀❤
great animation ;-) and an inspiring story
Indeed. It goes to show that anything is possible as long as you have the dream and burning passion inside you.
A truly inspiring story of perseverance and innovation
1:43 A guy told Tony about the Story of Django Reinhardt, & it inspired Tony to get back to the Guitar again.
I work in a metal fab shop and everytime I Run the press brake I think about this, of course if I lose my fingers it won't turn out as well for me .
If you're a guitarist you might find yourself inventing a new genre or simply making a metal renaissance
This man is a god. I was lucky to watch him play with Sabbath in Hamilton Ontario last year. I was 15 feet away from the stage in the arena and it was insane. Love n respect for the absolute riffmaster...
God Bless Tony Iommi man ¡ He Was Born to Reinvent Rock n Roll ¡ 🤟🎸✌
Thank you Tony for such fantastic music and amazing guitar riffs. One of my influences.
That’s incredibly inspirational
Wow, just f'ing amazing!! Tony is the greatest!
Tony Iommi, and Rick Allen really show what you do if you want to keep playing rock music.
I love this video :-) Tony Iommi is one of the best guitarists ever :-) ROCK ON!!!!!!!
Tony is on par with Page , Clapton, Beck. All those guys. He doesn't get the credit he deserves and its a fuckin' crime.
Best comment on here.
Legal essa animação! Um pouco da história de um dos melhores guitarristas que já vi! Sr. Tony iommi é demais!😎😃😀🤘
I Love tony because im missing fingers two
Super cool.Great story.Great animation.Tony Iommi.....riffmaster,guitar god!
cool vid but I wanted the one where he appeared on the show; specifically the one where he said "Well, you know, Ritchie Blackmoore is a "genius" and can do whatever he wants, but the rest of us have rules we must live by"
All salute Mrs Iommi for not pampering him but sending him back to work 🤘
Wow... I didn't know that. That makes Tony even more fucking amazing. One of the best guitarists EVER. Thank you man!!!!!
L9ved heavy sound into the void its like whole lotta love with lead break aston suburd of industrial birmingham brummies
Thank you toni
Tony Iommi worked at a sheet metal factory, and his two fingers were chopped off by a metal cutter. Taking advantage of his injury he downtuned his strings and created heavy metal.
Doesn't get any more metal than that.
the master
the best animation of Tony iommi, year very Good! i love Sabbath.
simply awesome!
Legend
Lost his fingers and yet one of the best guitarists to have graced the Earth, very admirable
Pretty cool story, so from tragedy comes triumph and a then-new sound of music! Rock on, Tommy!
When Tony was little he & his family were all rocking out on the Accordion, but then at 13 he got his first Guitar.
slay KING of metal!
If we ever feel discourage, just remember, Tony did it.
This is really awesome I love Black Sabbath
So ..the factory manager is really the inventor of heavy metal music bcuz If he didint told him about jango R... Tony never came back took a guitar....LOL
gatolocoverga152
Nope, the real creator is Iommi's Mom cuz she made him go back to work and then history happened!
Heh~heh
Django. The D is silent
I got my thumb pulled between the gears of a sewer cleaning machine it messed it up pretty bad I still wanna learn to play guitar. This gives me some hope that I could one day.
9 people should have lost their thumbs!
25
Good ideas to use a plastic soap bottle! Thank's, Tony, for the great idea and for the great song too!
Hell fucking yeah.
Lesson learned. Tony did better for himself working for himself than working for others, and stopped losing fingers as well.
Wow I Actually Did Not Know That About Toni From Black Sabbath
Ditto
Underrated
Tony Lommi. 🔥🎸♥️
O sabbath é definitivamente os criadores absolutos do heavy metal, isso não se discute.
Anyone notice the metal bird that brings Tony to the hospital resembles a Judas Priest album cover?
AMAZING!
That was cool!!
Tony Wanted to play Drums but because they didn't have Electronic Drums back then, he decided to pick up Guitar instead & he's rocking.
The factory manager had no idea how influential his words and support were.
He thought he was just consoling a poor kid he felt responsible for, but Tommy himself says it was the reason he didn’t give up and pushed to overcome his new disability.
Great

legend
As a metro Detroiter hearing tony compare Birmingham to Detroit brings me joy
This would make a great movie.
My index finger was almost chopped of by a heavy wood door when I was 10. Now I am 16 and I'm still planning the guitar 🤟🏻
My Guitar Hero!
Very cool.
Tonys that dude!
really cool of the plant manager to visit him and give him that story.
Beyond badass. 🤘❤
He lost two of his fingers while working metal, years after HE MADE IT!!
Thanks to his mom... we never would have got that badass sabbath tone!
Coolest story ever 🤘
What song is the riff at end from? I can’t place it
Fucking legend
