It was just stunning, and I'm sure you barely scratched the surface. Have you ever been to Longwood gardens? It's not far from you just up I - 95 north. I was there about 10 years ago and it's absolutely gorgeous. I'm planning on going to Mt. Cuba in Delaware next year, it's a native plant garden.
Yes, we are members at Longwood, and have been several times. It's gorgeous! What I love about the MN Arb though is that it's specifically geared toward home landscaping ideas... Longwood is a showpiece for sure, but I have trouble translating their ideas into my own garden sometimes.

What is that purple flower at the foot of the shady slope?
I think they are 'Purple Candle' Astilbe. Some type of Astilbe, anyway.
