This chill dude made some of the most crazy, loud, intense music ever.
Agree !!!!!!
Cadaver A.D He's "chill" because he's brain damaged
Big Boy yep. :(
@@__-wm9lu From what I read he is dealing with schizophrenia. Not sure if that's right. Once this began, his manner of speaking changed.
I think he thoroughly burned through his aggression in his youth.
This punk/hardcore legend is such a sweet old man
@Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox Seriously?
@Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox Please explain how
Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox if you're talking about the song don't blow bubbles and the "big boys incident" members of the band have since come out and apologized and spoken regret on their old beliefs except hr, as you hr was going through untreated schizophrenia etc spiraling and the rising into this sort of shaman etc (not a full excuse) he then suffered brain damage. in this current timeline if he remembered the trouble of the past he certainly would apologize no doubt as he's risen into acceptance of all.
I have to know what red raspberry razmin fox said
I dont care what ya'll say, this man is a living legend. H.R and Bad Brains changed my life forever
He's a nutbag, veganism causes brain fog
Meee toooo.❤
He's already proven himself 10 fold. He was a legend by 1983. How many of us will make a mark on the world like he has??? He was/is a brilliant musician.
@Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox When was the last time you talked to him?
Such an underrated band. You'd be surprised how many fans of Punk and Hardcore music these days have never even heard of Bad Brains and thier influence on Rock music history. Watching from London UK
I've been living just outside D.C. my entire life and it's pissed me off the *entire* time!
So good to hear he's recovering from surgery. I suspect part of the reason he speaks so softly is due to the endless headaches. I would love a chance to see a rejuvenated H.R. on stage.
Hard to believe this calm, soft spoken dude is responsible for some of the most unhinged sounding vocals in the whole of the classic punk pantheon.
beware of the silent ones
@@torontotonto6189 Beware indeed!
think thats some condition he is in tbh
@@pyrox2518 Nah even in older interviews he was relatively soft spoken, not to the same degree as he is now, but back in the 80s he was still very much that way.
... and you ask yourself : Whre's the Bad Brain. :-)
Dude couldn’t even keep a straight face when He was confused by HR being HR. Make no mistake as weird as he is HR is one of the nicest people and just a gentle soul. All the Bad Brains are
Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox who HR ?
Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox shut up
@Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox dude who fucking cares? go be woke somewhere else
@Rad Raspberry Razmin Fox What has he done? I'm genuinely curious.
I saw Bad Brains in Philly in 1984 or so, they pull up in a shitty van and walked up the steps to the entrance door past the few of us that were out front. I looked at my friend and said "I think that is them", we didn't know what the band looked like, I only had the banned in DC cassette, no more than 200 people in the club, there was times of intense moshing to smooth reggae then back to ferocity. The Bad Brains were all you could want, rhythm, power, drive and Prime HR was a force of nature. It was fucking real, real special. HR was a spastic, wailing, electrified rag doll, dude put on a fuckin SHOW, he was an experience.
Wow, a legend in punk and he's so soft spoken. Idk but it brings tears to my eyes.
Man, literally Im in tears while watching this video....May God Bless you H.R...so pure...you're a living legend...
The most soft spoken chilled out guy made some insane music !!!! Mad Respect !!!!!
wow some very ignorant commentors here.this man is a true living legend.Bad Brains changed my life when I heard them as a young skater in the 80s
DC changed the way you listened to music?
Bobby Bell what's crazy is most of the stuff on the first record predates all other main stream punk rock plus h.r. has one of the most killer reggae voices ever
I'm only 15 and they've helped shaped me after recently discovering them, mad respect to these underapreciated legends
@@pitapajaro they, as well as other hardcore bands, cater to a different audience. I'm assuming you're not a fan of that scene in general...?
Exactly!! Hollywood should definitely do a movie about Bad Brains. Such an amazing influence on Rock music history.
H.R. is my all time favorite vocalist
FACTS!!!!
same
@Anthony B hell yeah. They're both absolutely killer.
I got to meet H.R in the legendary Dobbs in Philly when he was touring with his band the Dub Assassins I believe...And it was such an honor to even be in the presence...I introduced myself shook his hand...And when I walked away I was floored...Him and the rest of the Bad Brains are legends...MUCH RESPECT...JAH BLESS
It was a bit small but I loved seeing shows at JC Dobbs.
Living legend
RESPECT THE LIVING LEGEND. Read about them, listen to their music and watch their shows. This man has nothing to prove to anyone. We’re lucky.
Buy Their Vinyl, But Their CD's, Digitally Download their music, get the VHS and DVD's that came out, and Buy Darryl Jennifers Du Album "In Search Of Black Judas"
HR YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!!! You are a legend forever. Thank you for being you. And thank you for uploading these videos!!
I'm in tears I meet this man and he was so nice and aware I had no idea he is such a badass.. People PMA is real wow
His voice is so relaxing to listen to
who woulda thought the lead singer of one of the loudest punk bands ever would be such a soft spoken humble person
God, please let them tour just one more time with no problems(inner turmoil)!
I pray they come to the Midwest. I'll be there front row. I hope HR can give us a show worth seeing
I donnow guys...did you say that footage of HR at Chile(I think?) A few years back?
Friggen embarassing for the Bad Brains legacy man...the guy wasnt all there...
Don't know how the guys could let him get up in front of a crowd like that..but okay.
At least we have 'White Mandingos' now...that album was killer
js92css They are going to play riot fest in Illinois soon.
Saw them in Chicago a few years ago and it was ass-puckeringly bad. HR was clearly not in a good way, and Darryl was hiding behind his amp. It was so sad. I hope, if they tour again, things go better.
he's like 60 man, those days havea been over for a long long time
@@Jacob-fv9tg but he released a great album in 2019
bad brains the best there ever was. period.
Chuck H. 100% absolutely , the mighty brains
this interviewed man was the singer of bad brains? (dont know if it was well writen, english not my nativ languaje
Chuck H. set the foundation for lots of stuff
Nico. Yeah, he was. He just recovered from brain surgery. What an irony!
+grrizo thanks for the reply, poor guy.
I would love to see Bad Brains just once in my life. Any time soon would be great before its too late. Amazing musicians.
Saw them play Brixton Academy in 1996 they were amazing HR stopped me from getting kicked out for climbing up speakers and stage diving lol
Well done to Graham - interesting questions and really respectful to this legend who I'm surprised is up and about so soon after brain surgery. Get well soon H.R.
H.R. is an absolute legend!!!!
Great vocalist he was, original - powerful and a highly inflectional vocalist. HR went off the rails for a while but seems levelled now. He will never be like the young HR but it´s great he is still alive. Bad Brains are and always be beyond!!
What a great man with so so much talent.
He's so soft spoken during this interview, which kind of surprised me as I've never seen an interview with him. He was such a wildman onstage. What a sweet dude.
This man will always have the music world's respect!
Crazy to see him so quiet and cool n collective knowing what he was on stage... Polar opposites.
Thank you H.R. for staying on the straight and narrow road in the most intense and rowdiest crowd of them all. You truly are an inspiration to us. It's easier to do bad and impossible for alot of us to choose wisely and inspire the well being of people around us. May Jah bless your soul!
I am glad I found their music. What an iconic band!
Looked them up on TH-cam last night, never heard their music or seen any footage of them. But when I saw the footage of them at CBGBs I was floored. Never seen a band grab the crowd like that. Glad to see H.R. doing well.
I need to get that book!
Look into the documentaries about and from The Foo Fighters! Dave Grohl started running the same streets here as Bad Brains hit their stride... they cannot say enough good things about those gentlemen!
And that's just the beginning!
I never would have expected the most relaxing video on TH-cam to be released by Loudwire
Healing prayers and Love to HR, one of the greatest frontmen of all time in any genre!
HR is FAMILY!!!!..The World.. would love to have the Brains on tour again... More amazing than words can say is their influence on the music scene.. .
I had the pleasure of meeting this legend. He is the best. Most humble person I"ve ever met.
HR is a pure sweetheart, just an amazing man. bless him
He's got such an amazing voice. Such a change from his frantic screeching in the Bad Brains that we all love.
so soft spoken...
absolute legend
oi oi oi!
Bad Brains-I never forget the performance.GREAT!!!
PMA has gotten me through soooo much shit in my life! It was the BAD BRAIBNS that kept my spirits alive!
He is legend and will never be forgotten. Thanks for your music
Good to see he's doing well!
A true inspiration!
How in the world did I manage to miss this group all these years? Pretty awesome.
Bad Brains was the 1st big band I saw when I started going to shows. I owe them so so so much. They were so rad to the people at shows.
Amazing that H.R.'s can be so calm and zen, when he is so incredibly intense and wild on stage!
So much respect for this man, H.R.
Bought the Rock for Light cassette bitd. My first punk rock purchase. What a great buy! I cherish my pic with my arm around him.
The almighty Bad Brains! Great interview HR. Thank you

ASMHR
If anyone wonders about which verse he is referring to, this is it;
Psalm 100
A psalm. For giving grateful praise.
1 Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Worship the Lord with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the Lord is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his[a];
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Oh shit that actually is spiritually deep.
God bless🙏👍
i and i give thanks. Praise Jah!!!
amen
Great verse!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Bad Brains has influenced generations of musicians!!!!! 🙏 🔥🎼🔥
Such a soft spoken gentleman. Doesn't even seem like the awesome maniac with the crazy voice you see and hear onstage. Love it love Bad Brains and HR. Much love to old school punk/hardcore
I'm now in my late 40s. My favorite band as a young teen punk was Bad Brains. Still my fave. Time didn't change my opinion.
early 50s and i couldnt agree more. Rock for light came out and changed my life. it was like everything i wanted to hear in music it literally talked to us. if we weren't skating, we were practicing and 5months later we formed our own Brains cover band "Riot Squad" and started spreading the word wherever we could play. P.M.A.
Poor H.R.. Man has been thru one heck of a journey. Done a lot and seen a lot.
What a terrific human being...love the man. Bless you HR
He literally is such a sweetheart, oh my god 😭❤️
This dude was the same dude who sang how low can a punk get? Thats fucking amazing
Yeah and do you know what that song is about?
...I was NOT expecting him to be so soft spoken. Holy shit.
Cool interview. Cool interviewer. And HR is a living legend who is very cool.
Greatest frontman of all time🤔👍
GOD BLESS YOU! You look great!! Boston was my first BAD BRAINS show. Then D.C. ❤
Bad Brains's vocalist recovering from brain surgery, that's life's crude humour.
There is a gofundme for helping out with the bills. www.gofundme.com/r4ua4wng
Dr. Know has been having a rough time the past couple of years, too.
grrizo Exactly what I was going to say. He's been weakened by the surgery and the debilitating condition it was for.
Hemiac Plurge Just saw this, will donate.
grrizo he didnt have brain surgery man. Hes schizophrenic and has a debilitating headache issue
@@hemiacplurge3572 where can I donate? this gofundme thing is no longer available.
BLESSED!
Brilliant man, much love and respect to you H.R.
I met HR once in lower mann off stage as i was working at the club at the time . He had an amazing energy, very cool and down to earth. I had to ask him the question which was , are you guys gonna ever do BB again. At the time HR was doing a roots reggae thing and it was great. He said he can only say what the present holds as there was no plans to do BB again. Ive always loved the whole band and
Was glad i got to talk with him . The living legend ⭐
You know one person I this group that they never seem to mention is Earl the drummer. I have got know him over the years and I consider him a good friend. We never hardly talk about the band. Here and there he would share a few crazy story’s with me about them out on tour. This is the guy someone should interview if you ask me. Just saying!
. th drummers are always
I really like the dude in the dead Kennedys shirt he's a great interviewer.
Yep. He handled himself very well, got the important info, and kept the tone in the zone for HR. Respect
Ghjyj Ghyhs graham is that you ?
I'm a little bit unhinged just a lil bit lol
Gruhammed?
Me too, he’s great👍
literally so sweet and soft spoken and sweet
Bad Brains put out so much influence into musical history of America. LONG LIVE THE BRAINS!!!! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
been a bad brains fan for years, never heard H.R talk though. and god damn this is not what I was expecting haha. much love
What a wonderful human being.
H.R. has been my musical idol since I was 13
A living legend
Much respect for the music and inspiration .
Will always be one of my favourite front men.
H.R. is one of the greatest stage performers ever and vocals to match. The energy he had on stage and charisma was beyond imagination. BAD BRAINS imo is the greatest hardcore punk band. PMA 4 LIFE!!
amazing im gonna buy that book. best of luck with your headaches
What a beautiful person.
Omgoodness I thought cool had gone away I just got a 90’s normal feeling just now.. ty
fantastic interview.. HR was very engaging for a change
He’s a legend doesn’t age greatest and only real punk/reggae band Of All Times!
This is the same man I met in NYC after a Bad Brains show in the early eighties. Just WAY more laid back. Get that PMA !
It's truly fascinating to see someone portray art so clearly and beautifully, despite a lifelong battle with schizophrenia.
Its really sad to see HR like this, hope he's able to recover properly.
sound like asmr
My thoughts! He should make a video just talking about whatever.
He's enlightened
This is why i see bad brains as the slayer of hardcore cause there attitude is just more calm then other bands in the genre
HRs talking voice is a hell of a drug
Grear band great man I saw them was fortunate enough to see them live in london I think 87 ! Thw Camden town electric ballroom, jah jah jah , P.M.A. all the. 🙏🏴🙏 way,
The same my friend 👳 they played Huddersfield too and just destroyed the place . Was incendiary . . Went skating afterwards . So lucky we were , to see it go off !
this is absolutely beautiful. HR is a prophet
two best hardcore bands ever: NoMeansNo and Bad Brains
I've always been a rocker , but when I was asked "what's my fave band of all time?" I quickly replied ",BAD BRAINS".
great interview ... not everyone could do it. Congratulations
great interview
Good interview and interviewer. HR lives!
I LOVE AND RESPECT H R this WONDERFUL HUMAN CHANGED MY LIFE DIRECTION FOR THE BETTER in 1984 WITH HIS BEAUTIFUL REGGAE AND HARDEST OF THE HARDCORE
FUCK HIS SPOKEN VOICE IS SO MELLOW AND JUST BEAUTIFUL
I LOVE HOW HE FINISHED THAT WITH THE SONG THAT CHANGED THE DIRECTION OF MY LIFE P.M.A
I saw Bad Brains at Hammersmith Odeaon, London in 1986: best punk band I've ever seen. Victor...
