    Rimsky-Korsakov is one of my favorite composers, Scherezade is one of the best pieces. I always felt like he was the Russian counterpart to John Phillip Sousa. Maybe its that they have a passing resemblance, but more that they were both Naval military band leaders. They had different music styles, but some similarities in orchestration.

    I live in this city. From my point of view, the title is misleading. I didn't understand from this video what is this secret? But anything else is perfect: the footage, the text, the voice... Just everything. The video is marvelous!

      I agree the video, like most Perspective videos, is marvelous. I took the secret of Russian classical music to be the role played by Mikhail Glinka, who is said to be the fountainhead of all Russian classical music but not well known outside of Russia.

    I've been greatly enjoying this series!
    Friendly note: In the 1000 Nights, Scheherezade's husband is Shahryar, not Harun Ar-Rashid.

    I find the title of this film very misleading. It's a travelogue about St Petersburg, with the occasional reference to a composer - and a couple of odd Aussie voice-overs (????). Can anyone tell me what the 'secret' is supposed to be?

      Sonia, I was also disappointed by this video. I've listened to Russian music for years, yet I found no "secret" either. When listening to the music of Russia is this - what do I say - unique Russian sound. This program dose not even begin to explain it.

    Good and in-depth travelogue about St. Petersburg. But other than that some of the best known Russian composers lived and studied there, what is the "great secret" that the title tempts the reader, about the Russian composers? Nothing. So, the title of this video is greatly MISLEADING.

    • @bearfoxwolf
      @bearfoxwolf ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. At 8 minutes we get Glinka, I'm thinking finally - there's a bit of a tidbit - and then we're back in the travelogue. I'm interested specifically about Russian music as a learner - there's nothing there.

    狭小ウサギ小屋建築だらけの日本と違って、広大な空間を贅沢に使ったゆったり建築物。
    高層建築物が見当たらないけど、内装の天井が高い!
    精神性重視のロシアっぽい。
    コレクターのシチューキンさんが着目したピカソさんの青の時代の作品にも現れてそうな趣。

  • @earthwater9964
    @earthwater9964 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes. Great video, but title is shallow, of little explanation, support. I am Russian enough, was in that city. But why focus on the city, particular one area or architecture. Secret is in the villages. Not Western building competitions. (Doje by Italian or modeled after Europe) It's in their mystical spirit. That's the secret. The Mongols, Oriental, Asian and Central Asian, mountainous heritage. These are Russians
