- This video is part 2 in a series of videos showing my favorite ways to record drums with low microphone & channel counts. I'm going to explore a variety of mic types, combinations and placement techniques that will help you get a better drum sound no matter what gear you have. In this video, I am using a single SM7b microphone in an "over the shoulder" positioning to give an amazing full-picture drum recording. Lots of different mics can be used in this positioning so experiment with what you have and see what sounds the best on your own drums. I also show both the dry (unmixed) and processed (mixed) sound to give a better idea of what this combination sounds like as well as how good it can sound in a mix.
This video is great for anyone looking to record drums, improve the quality of their audio, or learn a new way to produce drums in general. Please comment if you enjoyed the video or have any questions about drum recording and I'll be happy to help!
