Re: water pump. Not to open a can of worms, but wouldn't you hear it if the metal impeller was hitting the case? Seems it would be a very clear sign that something was wrong. With the composite impeller, they could break, send bits through the engine and you might never know. I'll stick with my metal blade! Also, this car had the 83 degree t-stat. I'd go with the 71 degree if I was you. Changed mine out and the car runs cooler for sure. Very happy to have made the switch.
I am really hoping you rebuild this engine because I want to see the re-assembly process. Obviously disassembling is much easier because you don't have to worry about where things go (other than recording and making notes for posterity). We also need to see all of the important steps like properly aligning gears and timing, replacing o-rings and seals, etc. Seems like twice the amount of work but would love to see it. Keep up the great work and thank you for making these videos. I would never attempt this on my Boxster (and hopefully will never need to), but I am learning a ton about the engine!!
The locating sleeves on the water pump and oil pump housing are called "dowels," FYI. When they're just a solid pin, with no bolt going through them, they're called "dowel pins," although I don't think I've seen any of those on my Boxster.
You didn't have to gut the motor mount. You didn't even need to loosen that one bolt as far as you fid. When you undo the other bolts the mount swings out, off that restricted access one.

+Tom Fitch no you probably wouldn’t hear it over the engine noise if it was lightly screaming like this one
Great job! Thanks for all the hard work and showing me what my engine looks like inside.
+Fred Palmans you’re welcome! Fascinating isn’t it? 🍻
Another great tutorial! Really enjoying this series. You need to get yourself a real set of pry bars lol
+Jonathan Burnham I need a lot of things 😂 thanks for watching and commenting
Really enjoy watching this series, but hoping I never need to do it myself
+cparks325 thanks! I think you’re in good company 😂 🍻

+Jeremy Pringle that’s the plan! And yes, will be a lot more work 🤣
Almost like a class you’d pay for…

+Aaron Averett ah thanks! Still learning terms as I go 😆

+Adam Miller yeah, I figured that out as you saw 😝
Love it... Great videos - content
+J Iiyama thank you! 🍻
Something tells me that this engine was NOT designed to be rebuilt.
+Bob Fognozzle are there engines that are? It’s my first one so 🤷♂️
Im thinking the detroit diesel 12v71 anf the fairbanks morse family of six cylinder opposed piston, for example.
🤓👍
