What a great down to Earth guy. Saw them at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA back in 1998 when they were REALLY BIG! "The Toadies" opened up for them and got to chat with them for a few minutes before Creed came on, and they were great as well. Was a great concert and only about 1,000 people in attendance, and hilarious to see the girls run after them once they left the stage.
I have always always loved Mark Tremonti. He was the lead guitarist of my favorite childhood rock band, and I cannot believe that it has taken me until almost the age of FORTY to discover his solo stuff! I'm loving all of it. Love that he name dropped Brett Hestla, I never got to meet Mark but I recorded a few albums with Brett in his studio with my band back in Florida a handful of years ago. He was an awesome dude and his wife Katie is the absolute sweetest and one of coolest artists I've met. They invited us to one of their parties at their house, such an amazing family. Brett has since moved his studio out to Nashville, if everyone ever gets the chance, definitely go record some music with him. He's an absolute incredible musician and a great human being.
I really dug creed. I hated that people attacked scott for the psuedo religious stuff. To me it was positive metal...something we just don't have enough of imo. But marks solo career and alter bridge have been where his most epic efforts have surfaced.
Mark, if you ever read this, I just want you to know I played air guitar until I figured out tabs to Creed and it's led me here to where I am today with guitar. My wife and I still listen to Creed in the car. Much love mang.
Makes me emotional to see how mark stuck by Scott during this time. Showing so much understanding and empathy for Scott’s struggles and never dismissing his humanity. Great to see Scott on the upswing and playing music with his friends again.
I'm so thankful for Mark giving us an honest and honorable explanation on the bands issues. Addiction is a strong and heavy burden that plagues society. Scott is an amazing musician as well as Tremonti, and all of their projects whether Creed, Alter Bridge, or even their solo careers. Love these guys. If you know someone struggling with addiction, be as supportive as you can without being enablers. Love and compassion are what most addicts need to be the first spark of change within.

@@ryanmaplerm no shit lmao, you. You can’t expect that, human clay is the best album they mad. And they were much older and out of their prime when they made full circle
Maybe. I think it had more to do with Tremonti's song writing ability. I try and imagine what Creed would have sounded like with Kennedy as the frontman from the start. I think they would have had a much longer career and probably be up there with a lot of great bands from the past 30 years. Instead Creed may have made a lot of money but they are not really looked at in a serious light. That is all on Stapp. There was a lot of comparison to pearl jam on their first record and his style being close to Vedders. IMO that is not even close as Eddie is in a class by himself. However, Stapp should have paid homage instead of denying it. I dont care what anyone says, to the average listener they do sound similar. To fans, its not really a thing. Pearl jam has paid homage to bands they were inspired by. Its just respectful. That hurt creed.
Agree to disagree. Yeah I know people said they sound similar but I never once confused the two. I loved Pearl Jam and I loved Creed. If both of these guys sang Amazing Grace, I could tell you who was who. People also called them a Christian band which they are not. Some say they did too many ballads but I love ballads. Idk. I think people got too carried away.
Class right there brother! Saw AB at House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. You guys were awesome. Hope y’all come back through! Stay safe and pass on the love!
***** at least I like it more than the Last Hero, but I haven't listened ABIII yet. But it's true that some songs aren't particularly good on their debut album.
Wow I can see that this man is really stepping cautiously obviously because he's very considerate of his bandmate. I mean when people break up at the height of popularity that they were at, Ive often seen individuals taking potshots at one another. He seems to be more concerned with the person than the persona of the Creed machine. Very humble guy. I always knew you was a great guitarist now I know he's a great person.
Ok, I have to add my 2 cents. I admired Creed, back in the day; and I found their music very spiritual. happenstance had it, that I would encounter one of Creed's band management, during the course of my normal business. This was after Scott fell off the deep end. I had to ask, "what happened to 'Scott?". Here's my conclusion from what I knew, and what I learned. Scott was raised in one of those families, who were involve with uber religious church groups,.............might as well call them cults. I'm talking religion, which is man made; not spiritual, which is your relationship with your maker. Scott struggled with that. The lyrics of the songs he wrote should have been an obvious sign to those who knew him best. Scott fell into a hole of self indulgence, with alcohol and later meth. He became paranoid and delusional. I think part of his problem was facilitated by the people who hated him the most. Ya see, a rock band that sings about God or spirituality, isn't a friend of the people at the top of the industry. They either make you, or allow you succeed in their world; or they break you, if you cross them. Scott didn't fit into the mold that rock star front men are supposed to fit. He was spreading a message that didn't suit his handlers. Destruction came quickly. Our battle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual realm. Scott almost lost this fight. I'm glad to say that Scott has turned things around, and I think he's back on the right course. The mass media tells us that Creed is one of the most hated bands; but reality is, they were the most loved of bands. Scott Stapp is a warrior, and he'll be back. I look forward to his next great work. God bless him and keep him.
Well said: over 50 Million selled records can´t be wrong - this band was unique, their songs were great with a deep spiritual meaning. Listen to their music evolves magical moments, the people loved and will always love their work.
I'm now 61, and have been a rock fan since the late 60's, as a kid growing up mesmerized by what I was hearing on New York and New Jersey radio stations. I particularly loved hard rock (later to be called 'heavy metal', or 'metal', especially after the NWOBHM hit the scene), and got into Aerosmith, Zeppelin, KISS, Rush, Maiden, Scorpions, etc. I never liked grunge or post-grunge when it came out, but there was one exception at first. That was Creed. When I first heard that first Creed album, I was blown away! Especially Tremonti's guitar playing. So raw, compelling, and emotional. I had to re-evaluate my dislike for this kind of music! Fast foward to now, and I still think Mark Tremonti is an absolute monster on guitar, with his many shades and nuances of rhythm and lead. He is easily one of America's all time best rock guitarists, and that's coming from someone who has admired all the greats like Tony Iommi, Yngwie Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore, Alex Lifeson, Jimmy Page, Rory Gallagher, Uli Roth, Michael Schenker, etc.!
Thats a fine list of guitarists IMO.. may i respectfully add, ..Joe Satriani... Jerry Garcia and surprise entry ..Roy Clarke. (Just check for yourself if theres any doubt). Very cool you mentioned Rudy Schenker.
i hope tremonti knows JUST how influential he is. Creed was the first rock band i ever listened to as a second grader. One last breath made me pick up the guitar.
Creed had such an impact on my life. What stands out here is the fact he speaks about Scott in 2 definitions, "he was..." all praise. Then when he talks about recent day Scott he just avoids it and keeps it general. Theres not much love left there, Scott's ego, delusions, drug addiction has pushed him away.
Loudwire OMG I am so happy, I prayed for him daily since the shit hit the fan, i knew he would pull through, he left it to God and man i am so relieved. Thanks for speaking out on his behalf... Never was a fan of Creed or Alter Bridge but Mark seems like one of the good guys in music. He deserves the success he's achieved.
Same here. But I happened to see Creed at a festival in the 90s while tripping on acid(Edgefest@The Ballpark in Arlington). They went on right before Crystal Method. It was pretty cool.
I love the band and I'm glad Scott is recovering. Mark is an awesome dude to talk about Scott and not his own talents what a humble star.
I respect that while Mark is being completely honest and open, he’s really watching what he’s saying... I met him a few years back and he just seemed like a good dude!
His words are trustworthy. People like Scott Stapp tell lies all the time and their words mean nothing.
What a nice dude. I love to see people who genuinely care. Its so easy to talk negative shit about people, but to acknowledge someones positive qualities and acknowledge that we are human is so rare anymore. We are all one bad day away from slipping. It can happen to anyone.
Guy looks after himself, was blessed hitting the handsome branch on the way down, has never stopped working hard, hasn't made a boring acoustic album, keeping at it, never sounds too much like himself, evolves as time goes on. true hero to look up too right there.....
I've always appreciated Tremonti. Great guitar player, writer, and singer!
Great interview, and good on him for sticking up for his friend. Tremonti has even more of my respect after this video.
They don't get along, and this wasn't sticking up for him......this was just Mark being himself, he doesn't shit talk, you should notice the way he critically thought about everything he said.
WHAT A FRIEND SCOTT SEEMS TO HAVE AND NOT KNOW IT...SAD....BUT MARK IS REAL RIGHTEOUS MAN
I saw a video of Tremonti and Kennedy in a guitar store. Very down to earth guys. Saw Stapp solo a few years ago. It was a GREAT show.
I love Mark he's an inspiration for me to learn the guitar.
+Anthony Morado Dream Big man. I wish I had started the skill myself.
+Anthony Morado How is your guitar journey coming?
+Guardian's Creed never too late. It would blow your mind to see what 6 months of practice would give you.
Ryan Quick I've yet to start :( I don't know where or how to start tbh
Same
Thank you Mark! Very level headed interview! I hope to see you live again!! Since that time what a journey,,, Alter Bridge to me is one of the most criminally underatted bands... We have to change that!!!
Mark is a killer player, writer. I personally think he was without doubt the driving force behind Creed and now of course Alter Bridge. What a band!
Mark is an obvious class act, not judgmental, explained his loyalty and why, very respectful,,,this is the kind of friend / colleague everyone needs.
I love " One" great song. That was the song i couldn't be a 90s rock snob at the time. Now i like all their creed tunes. Excellent job Mark!!!
Mark is such a normal guy.....Rock Star yes, but not the ego. He's turned from a stellar song writer to adding "super shredder" to his arsenal. He's amazing. Alter Bridge is incredible and the Tremonti solo stuff as well!
Mark Tremonti - my guitar hero since I was a teenager. :)
I've been going to concerts for 30 years ..been to around 150 shows in that time ..the only guitarist who has ever memorized me in concert was Tremonti ...he is seriously a life changing guitarist to see perform ..
Who u see Nickleback 150 times?
@@thomasmorano17 no ass clown 🤡 , I've seen everyone from Rush to Metallica to Creed to Lamb Of God ...just to name a few ..I've seen Korn 38 times alone since 1997 ..
Met him last Friday in their meet and greet in a show with trivium he was really awesome
Pressure from the record companies has hurt so many bands...so many great musicians..
I remember this, hope Scott is well. On a side note, very interesting that Mark brings up the "secret".
This guy is a class act through and through. Wish we had more awesome creative great riffing guitarist like this guy.
I’ve always admired Mark, such a humble down to earth realistic person. No i don’t know him personally but he seems like such a good dude. His music is outstanding, my favorite guitar player.
Class act. Great guy, MT.
Mark you’re probably a underrated guitarist
This guy is a good dude and can really play and sing! Talent and class combined.
i hope scott is doing well and creed can make more music
hinda dolo I'm sure he will get better but creed will only be a thing of the past. Don't think the band will ever get back together, also note that all those drugs and alcohol could have distorted his singing voice
I hope they dont.
Mark said recently he wouldn't say no to a reunion if Scott could sort himself out.
If Creed reunited, Scott would want Mark to just focus mainly on Creed. That’s not what Mark wants. He’s said that’s Scotts mindset in another interview on TH-cam
@@eduardomartinez-oh6bn wow just stumbled on this comment ,Creed was a huge impact on the world ,so big that there could be a reunion...and it would be something like full circle... just last year I did a tribute to Creed ...it was jammed .. Creed left there mark on everyone
seems like a very down to earth guy....
Mark Tremonti = Guitar God
yes
Guitar God hey it's your opinion but check out Dave Mustaine or Randy Rhodes that's GUITAR GOD'S
Right on brother both those guys would smoke this guy.
wpmtpm thanks brother
Shawn Denali I respect your opinion but you can't lie that MT is one of the greatest guitarists of all time.......
7 years later, I truly hope they can come together and make another album.
Scott Stapp is in a much better place now so I don’t think that’s out of the question
Could happen!
Love this guys work ethic. Heard he was such a perfectionist. Like that about him. Personally have all the music he is associated with. I can imagine this guy would be awesome to speak with. Rock on Mark!! #SympathyRocks
Mark seems like just a wonderful person.
Tremonti Is a legend to me. One of my favorite guitarists of all time, one of the reasons I wanted an electric 6 string when I was 12. His riffs and tone will always be what made creed so successful along with stapps pipes.
What a down to earth guy!
my brother said listen to this new band , the singer reminds me of you, while holding back the tears.that was my first time hearing you guyz.i played a little guitar and thought this guitar player is a new breed, excellent player . i loved your comment on family.thanx man.
Better late than never to discover that Mark Tremonti is actually one of the hardest working musicians alive and he has his freaking head on straight. What a standup guy, I wish him nothing but the best.
😮 im just now learning this! He is a real man and roll model, wow. Im so impressed ❤hard working and dedicated to his family
Tremonti is being very diplomatic here.
And.......?
@@chevydoitzKiwiVerrer are you really that illiterate to read between the lines?
Fred Garvin is implying that Tremonti has got class.
@@Yut00bisSUS haha, some people bro. He's( tremonti) a professional. Chooses his words wisely. In this business it's best not to burn bridges you may need to use again one day. And you never know who's listening
That’s bullshit... Mark is being genuine
He's always very respectful. I've never seen him dissing anyone.
Going to school at FSU my roommate worked with Scott at Chili's when they were trying to make it. He came over and played video games after work one day on my PS system. We went and saw them at a dive bar on Tennessee St. and they blew the roof off the joint. Loud and proud. Tremonti was always a humble, honest, and likeable dude.
Good little video. I don't care about anything from Creed post-My Own Prison but this guys really seems like a nice guy who cares about his old friend.
+righteousrat A couple of my friends met Tremonti. They said he was a really nice and genuine guy.
I met Mark after a Fox and friends show in NYC in 09 and he was a really cool dude, the only one to stay after and greet fans. One of my all time favorite guitarists
"When you are with me/ I'm free/ I'm careless/ I believe."
I don't care what you say, those lyrics are way cool.
Mark’s a class act...I’ve been a fan of his for a long time and the dude just seems to have a good head on his shoulders.
His face in the thumbnail perfectly sums up their relationship 🥴
Mark, if you ever read this, I just want you to know I played air guitar until I figured out tabs to Creed and it's led me here to where I am today with guitar. My wife and I still listen to Creed in the car. Much love mang.
To me Mark is the Boss. Was and always will be.
Makes me emotional to see how mark stuck by Scott during this time. Showing so much understanding and empathy for Scott’s struggles and never dismissing his humanity. Great to see Scott on the upswing and playing music with his friends again.
Mark is a stand up man ! I’m a metal head but loved earlier Creed . The combo was great! Good luck to all of them !
🙏🙏🙏💡 Great interview and yes you are right FAMILY is everything 🙏 And CREED is one my favorite bands 💡 So many songs that HIT me hard in my life 😉 So thank you 🙏 Wish you guys could figure it out and get back together 🙏💡👍
i've never heard him speak. he reminds me of a few buddies who were in the marines. they all have that same sort of mentality. not what i would have thought from the few times i saw their shows back n the old days. totally different onstage to off vibe.
Last part was deep , good interview with good information
Met Mark a few months ago. Great dude.
Nice
What a fantastic respectful interview about your long history with someone. He articulated everything with complete tact. Bravo MT.
Incredible guitarist and gentlemen!!
You all have inspired us all as musicians thank you you are truly loved
Creed's full circle the best rock album I've heard in the past 5 years
+project10bball Honestly I think their Solo work is much better, and Alter Bridge. And Scotts Proof of life is brilliant.
Full circle wasnt that good compared to human clay
@@ryanmaplerm no shit lmao, you. You can’t expect that, human clay is the best album they mad. And they were much older and out of their prime when they made full circle
this guy is an underrated guitarist he is an excellent musician
Scott Stapp's drive make everyone in Creed multimillionaires.
its make a sense
Saw Creed twice in concert and they were great both times.
Class fucking act. All the way. My band's success was 100% because of these guys. Nicest guy ever. And an absolutely terrifying MONSTER on guitar.
Class right there brother! Saw AB at House of Blues in Myrtle Beach. You guys were awesome. Hope y’all come back through! Stay safe and pass on the love!
the music that he created with Stapp and Creed will still be his greatest mark on music history. that can't be changed.
somebody hasn't listened to One Day Remains
***** at least I like it more than the Last Hero, but I haven't listened ABIII yet. But it's true that some songs aren't particularly good on their debut album.
***** I also like that a lot. Watch Your Words is one of my favourite from them, and the riff is pretty awesome
Listen to their music evolves magical moments, the people loved and will always love their work.
very well said .
Really good!
Amen
A lot of hard truth in this post.
U both are amazing artists that worked well together for a long time best wishes to both men and music abilities
@@exposingtheamericanstasitr3579 Thanks for the reply! Love Satch and Jerry for sure! Will check out Roy Clarke too!
The creed and alter bridge guitar is so legendary there isnt anything to say. This man is a legend.
i hope tremonti knows JUST how influential he is. Creed was the first rock band i ever listened to as a second grader. One last breath made me pick up the guitar.
I remember seeing this band for the 1st time on tv when I was 14 and i was in love with him!.😁🥰
I liked creed. Solid jams and great song writing.
Love alter bridge. Marks riffs and clean parts are on another level on the first 3 albums His solos come from his soul. Great all round player
WELL SAID SCOTT PISSED IT AWAY WHAT A GREAT BAND THEY WERE !
Alter bridge was a great move. I still have my lone Creed CD which I still listen to today.
Loudwire, was this interview shot recently ? If so, that means Scott is ok because Mark said he had gotten clean. Thank God!
Minkywhispers Yep, check it out: loudwire.com/exclusive-creed-scott-stapp-completes-stint-in-rehab/
Thank you guys !! :-)
Loudwire OMG I am so happy, I prayed for him daily since the shit hit the fan, i knew he would pull through, he left it to God and man i am so relieved. Thanks for speaking out on his behalf... Love all you guys. your music means to much to so many but for me personally, i really listen cause i hear the love coming at me....never give up.
Tina Hemingway Scott Stapp is bi-polar, which explains a lot of his behavior.
Tina Hemingway He left it to god? Sounds like he left it to the doctors to diagnose him and give him the treatment he needed...
Nice to see he cared for Scott's well being. Stapp has been clean and sober for a while now and it's good too see he's healthy.
Awesome interview.
