I first witnessed Dennis years ago when he was with parliament funkadelic. A bit over 40 yrs ago. And he still remains to me the most remarkable exciting drummer i have ever witnessed to this day. Every band I have ever seen him play with is extraordinary. And in this Scofield band they all musically compliment each other extremely well.
I saw a concert from this tour 87 in Sweden...and to this day it´s probably the most brutal and intense gig I´ve ever seen. Magic is an understatemant here... They totally were on fire and played three sets. Guess this was the first time people got exposed to Dennis in Europe and the drummers in the audience went nuts...a guy "lost it" and was jumoing up and down and screaming like in trance 🙂 What an incredible band!
I had the pleasure of meeting John at the beginning of his solo career when he was signed with Gramavision. Super nice guy. Dennis Chambers now........Unbelievable! Like Chester Thompson (Zappa, Genesis) & Ricky Wellman (Miles Davis), Dennis is yet another Great drummer from Baltimore, Md. I saw him on the Citizen Steely Dan tour in 1994. He did Aja total justice! Thanks for posting this! This combo was Excellent!
Digital piano sounds have improved a lot since 1986, but this one here was good enogh to Jim Beard play some Magic. (He would manage with a casiotone) This Quartet, OMG, TIMELESS
@@iratucker1632 He had a bad ass rig here....the very unusual Voyetra 8 analog poly rack...and he had amazing sounds from the TX-7 (on top of the rack) as well
I think Gary Grainger was a bit confounded by that dense harmony in Jim Beard’s solo. Definitely a Wayne Shorter Alum!. And Dennis….my first time hearing Trim live in the late 80s was a transformative moment in my life! Then I met him and he strongly insisted that I go back and check out Billy and Tony. Talk about an aha moment!
Totally with you man. I saw this group way back in ‘88 (though Mitchell Forman was on keys during that show). Given Omar Hakim played on the Still Warm album, that’s who I was hoping to see on the kit. When Dennis walked on stage I was like “who is this?! where is ‘Omar’? Well that lasted about 30 secs after they started when they blasted into Protocol. The whole audience was stunned. Gotta chance to meet Dennis after the show (and many shows afterwards)…. Transformative experience indeed - well said!
Actually he continues playing like a right-hander, the difference is that what he previously played on the hi-hat he transferred to the snare and what he played on the snare he transferred to the hi-hat. ☺️
Amazing band! RIP Jim. This music saved my childhood! Listening with headphones connected to a cassetw walkman. Originally with Mitchel Forman another amazing keyboardist. Thank god still alive! www.youtube.com/@jonnreyna1

Ya gotta love Dennis Chambers!
This is why Vinnie and Dave took a vacation together in 87', to heal the wounds.
Lol 😯😁😭
This is 86 or 87?
@@vigulfmusicproduct Usikker, men ett av de to årene, ja.
@@vigulfmusicproduct It´s 87...I have pics of the gigs in Sweden and even the clothes are the same as here 🙂
LOL
Obviously a unique and special band. We'd be very fortunate to hear something like this again.
RIP Jim Beard. Love your arrangement of John McLaughlin’s recording, O, Manuel, Manuel on the album, Jazz To The World, a. masterpiece!

1:23 I've always loved the way Sco starts the solo, such great phrasing ❤

OH MY GOD 😮
He's like, 'and this is what my brain is doing right now' Composition all the way through modes and all blues positions.
Sco is so creative and seems to not run out of ideas while turning up the heat!!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
classic.....they all killin.....
And super funky! Brilliant band.
God Damn!
Interesting playing Dennis accents between hi hat and snare from 6:00

they nailed it and even in 440 hz
Wow I love the 10/4 section before Dennis' solo!

How do you remember all that? Knowing when to come down .and how long to solo? Wow!!
Anybody knows who's on bass?
The great Gary Grainger is on bass...
I never knew at the time how great Gary grainger was and I saw this band , splendid stuff indeed !
Gary is amazingly good. Best rhythm team ever with Dennis!!
