    Great video! Thanks! It was very helpful. My Xsara 1999 have 340.000km on the clock. With this guide I and my friend replaced the timing belt. The most difficult thing for us was removing timing belt covers).
    It could be nice if you'll post more videos with Xsara.

    for the correct tension of this legandary 2.0 hdi DW10TD engine : determine exactly the middle of the belt between the camshaft pulley and fuel pump pulley. Take a metric ruler and hold this vertically along. Then push down the belt with your tumb as far as it goes with proportional force and measure how far you can push the belt down. If it is about 8 or 9 mm, the belt has correct tension. If you are in doubt, its better to do a little too tight than too loose! If it is very tight, you will hear the engine howling at stationary, so you can adjust the tension. Also it is very important to NOT overtighten the bolt of the tensioner pulley, ( max. 25 Nm) or else the fragile axis can be damaged.

    I am mentally preparing to change the timing belt on my 1.4i Xsara and your videos help me get a better grasp of the stuff i read off from haynes and autodata.

      Hi thanks for the comment, hope the job went well, or goes well if you haven't done it yet. I have a separate video covering the timing belt on a 1.1 TU 106, and also a head gasket and timing belt on a 1.4 TU 8v Saxo. Those videos might be more relevant if your Xsara is a 1.4 16v than this diesel video.
      The haynes manuals are nice to have, i still find they have useful bits of information, although there is some bits they tend to skim over and you can constantly be flicking back and fourth between pages to carry out a job.

    Super video. I had a 2.0 HDI in a 206 and it was a super engine. Bit of a pain to work on due to its size in the engine bay but in reality it was one of the last "reliable" diesels before it was phased out for the maintenance heavy 1.6 psa unit.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +darkwaterblue Yes its a bit cramped in anything smaller than the 406, but a great engine. Its a development of the XUD so they had a good well proven engine to start with, and even with common rail injection its still a fairly simple engine producing a modest amount of power for its capacity, the engine so under very little strain. The 1.6 is a bit of a nightmare.

    nice video.i see the xsara has the belt tensioner similar to old saxo engines. Real pain in the ass to set it. don't know why they didn't put the one like in the peugeot 106 1.1 (in an earlier video from you) that has that nice spring to set the tension automatically.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kaktus Jack Ahy a bit of a nuisance really, the SEEM tester (or Laser 4212) is the proper tool to set the tension its as rare as hens teeth and any that do come up cost over £200. Ive spoke to a few Peugeot mechanics who live nearby they just set it by hand. The 106 was handy because it had the spring tensioner then again some of them 106's came with this style of manual adjuster a proper nuisance. Why they did this i dont know the old xud on the 305 has a spring loaded tensioner which works really well.

    • @kaktusjack1033
      @kaktusjack1033 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +peugeotCitroen2CV Couldn't agree more. I was thinking about buying the SEEM tool, but found out it is cheaper to buy a new engine that damn tool. I just did for the first time the timing belt on my Saxo 1.1 1999. It has the manual adjusted tensioner...i spent few days figuring out how to set the tension...must say your videos helped A LOT! Thanks for that :-)

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is somewhat different, is your engine the 8 valve TU?
      I have a video of a 106 1.1 TU engine, also an 8 valve, it's basically the same process, also did a head gasket on a 1.4 75bhp Saxo engine and had to slacken the timing belt. Both videos may be of use to you. The TU is somewhat easier to work with as its a smaller engine.

      Thanks for the comment, yes i edit the videos down to the bare essentials so any time spent fiddling to get at a specific bolt or reach a part are typically cut down to make the video more concise. Nonetheless, this is actually one of the easier timing belts to do.

    hi, i need to replace timing belt on psa 2.0 hdi 150 hp engine in 5008, do you know if it"s similar ? thanks for your reply

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, i dont know to be honest. The 508 will have the newer 2.0 16v version of this engine.
      I have a 407 due to get the belt changed in the next few months which might be similar. However it might be best to try emanuals online for the 5008 workshop manual.
      In general the timing belt replacement will be similar with regards supporting the engine from underneath and removing covers etc. The actual locking process and how to tension the belt i am not sure about.

    Why do you need to lock the flywheel? What happens if you do not?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there
      Locking the flywheel ensures that the crankshaft is locked to TDC. That is because the flywheel is bolted to the crankshaft so can be considered one unit.
      Not locking the flywheel then you have the potential for the crankshaft to move when installing the new belt, if you find TDC and accuratley mark its posiion with tippex then this can be mitigated but locking the flywheel is the best way to ensure the engine is correclty held to TDC.

    what are the torque settings?

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are in the Haynes manual for the Xsara, it's not something I have to hand to quote from. Although when doing the work on this car everything was tightened by feel, however for the reassurance of knowing the bolts are tightened to the manufacturer's specification the Haynes manual details all the appropriate figures for all jobs related to the car.

    • @trobert132
      @trobert132 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Róbert Tóth
      I know the issue, haynes put the torque details at the start of each chapter so you do typically have to flick back and fourth between the article and the table with torque details. It’s something i try to include in my videos now as it can help in that regard, unfortunately i did not do that in this older video.
