I like the CCR, Marvin Gaye and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles versions, but the one that really does it for me is Gladys and the Pips. There's a mojo to that version that I think defined the song. Gladys Knight and the Pips was the first version released, though they were not the first to record it. It smoked then and still smokes today.
