      They’ll never do it. Most of those projects are small. West Loop will sadly probably never see any tall development because they’re so scared to build anything even remotely tall near the Sears tower.

      Thanks for watching and for your comment! The Chicago Spire was definitely an eye-catching design. While that specific project was unfortunately canceled, the site at 400 N. Lake Shore Drive is now home to a new development called 400 Lake Shore Drive, which we actually featured in our video! It consists of two stunning towers designed by SOM. Be sure to check out that part of the video to see what's happening at that location now.

    9:27 The last I checked, Lake Michigan was east of the city. That would make this the south tower.

    • @MegaBuilds5280
      @MegaBuilds5280  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      You are absolutely correct! 400 Lake Shore Drive is located on the eastern edge of Streeterville, directly on the shore of Lake Michigan. Therefore, the tower closest to the lake would indeed be the east tower, not the south tower.
      Thank you for pointing out this error. We apologize for the confusion

    The Salesforce tower is so underwhelming. Such a prominent location and they chose not to create something taller. Shame.

    • @MegaBuilds5280
      @MegaBuilds5280  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's true that the Salesforce Tower isn't the tallest building in Chicago, but its design prioritizes other aspects besides just height. Its unique curved facade and prominent riverfront location make it a striking landmark. Plus, it's designed to be a sustainable and efficient workspace.

      Yep. You get it. It's waaaay past time that we reclaimed our title. We built a 1450 foot building over 50 years ago. We can build a 2,000+ foot building today. We're letting lesser cities steal our identity. This needs to get done.

    There is one more lakeshore spot at that point just across the river. The last spot for a tower in the are called Lakeshore East. Renderings before the pandemic was a 8-+ story building. Nothing on it since.
    Also the renderings of 400 Lakeshore Drive keeps going from early renderings when the south tower was a supertall and both had a podium w/hotel that was not approved. A redo had it forced by NIMBY's and Alderman to take out the podium and hotel. They did and shortened the towers and made the taller one on the north side of the lot. Still both renderings kept going back and forth as AI did not know the difference apparently.

    Not sure why no one has had the balls to propose a 1700 or 1800 foot tower here in Chicago . It’s as if out of deference to the Sears no one wants to build higher . That’s not progress , that’s status quo which is lame , boring, dull .
    The location of 400 LSD absolutely needed a building with a great height like Central Park Tower in NYC towering of Central Park it would/should have towered over the lake .
    Blunder , shame, a wasted opportunity to put some pride back into peoples everyday downtown lives 🤷🏼‍♂️
    St.Regis Tower nearby is a marvel to behold 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

    Could have been researched better. 1000M is nowhere near Randolph Street (almost a mile away).
    East Madison is also more than a mile away from the 78. I don’t know what 400m is supposed to be. Several frames are showing places that are not located in Chicago …

    • @MegaBuilds5280
      @MegaBuilds5280  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for watching and for your feedback. 1000M location is mentioned in the video as being at 1000 S. Michigan Avenue, on the western edge of Grant Park in the South Loop. The 400 Lake Shore is located at the intersection of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan in the Streeterville neighborhood. This site was previously home to the ill-fated Chicago Spire project. And you are right about the 78, is located in Chicago on a 62-acre site near the South Loop, bordered by Roosevelt Road and the Chicago River. It is intended to be Chicago's 78th neighborhood. Thanks

    What happens when these towers are built and ruins the views of the existing apartments that are right next to them? One could say 'tough luck', but losing a view, sunlight etc surely lowers the value of those apartments affected. Ive seen ome developments which take this into account.

      As a Chicagoan i feel more at ease we ain’t reaching high but rather more classy mid tier buildings. Skyline flows nice, whilst im not a fan yet of New Yorks super talls being built on billionaires row. Also, Chicago has no need or $$$ to compete for supertax’s anymore. China almost bankrupted because of them so they capped at 500m and Dubai did go bankrupt but got oil money from Abu Dhabi. Also thats like their only thing going on.

    • @bobbymcmillin928
      @bobbymcmillin928 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +26

      Perhaps it has something to do with the whole 1000M costing over 1 Billion dollars? It's not exactly cheap to build in US cities. As a Chicagoan, I am definitely fine with it. Maintain and keep buildings more luxurious and beautiful - as opposed to overdeveloping cheap towers that ruin our skylines.

      Thank you for your comment! There are several reasons why skyscrapers in other countries, particularly in Asia and the Middle East, often surpass those in the U.S. in terms of height. The demand for more vertical construction to accommodate increasing populations in urban areas; significant government and private investment in high-rise is often seen as a symbol of economic prowess and modernization; in densely populated cities like Hong Kong and Singapore, land scarcity necessitates building upwards to maximize limited space; skyscrapers in many countries serve as cultural icons and symbols of national pride and technological advancement; and finally, in the U.S., zoning laws, height restrictions, and financial considerations often limit the construction of supertall buildings.

      This comment would make sense if the video were about a city and buildings in one of those 192 countries that use the metric system.
      But it’s not. It’s about a city and buildings in one of those three countries that use the imperial system; thus, the video discusses measurements in the imperial system.
      It’s really pretty straightforward.
