Wow. i haven't seen this in ages! Oh, the memories. My extended family used to record American shows on VHS and ship them to us when we lived in Japan. We had a rotating stack of tapes with various cartoons and christmas specials, including this one. Later in life i would record other programs over those tapes but i strategically recorded AROUND the "Christmas Gourmet Elmo" episode. i would re-watched those cartoon tapes whenever i stayed home sick from school, so over time i conditioned myself to feel better through nostalgia. One day in high school, i was home sick with a stomach bug, watching my nostalgia tapes, and i was devastated to discovered that...someone recorded over Elmo!! My heart sank and i went into convulsions. Shortly after that i was rushed to the emergency room with appendicitis.
Jeff Smith would later return the favor to "Sesame Street" by making a cameo appearance in the "Celebrity Extended" version of the song "Monster in the Mirror".
Do you have a 1987 PBS Frugal Gourmet special entitled "The Frugal Gourmet: A Colonial Christmas with Friends"? This one-hour special shows Jeff Smith and children preparing Christmas meals, such as candied orange and lemon peels, pound cake, Indian pudding, carrot pudding, and a plate of snow; Also, Kathryn Arnold shows Smith how to roast a turkey.🙂
