Thank for doing this. In the mid-1990s, I attended a lecture by the real Joe Clark. Someone in the audience asked him about the film. Was it sensationalistic? He replied: "Don't tell anyone, but they underplayed me."
Here’s a note about the movie. Although it feels like a plot device with the Asst Principal showing up with scores, that actually happened. The kids were getting defiant and they were going to bring in more police to make them disperse, but she showed up with the results right on time. Great movie and watching it with an emotional invested audience made it more fun to watch.
@@crystalfoster9573 so what high school did you go to? I was supposed to go to Barringer but that was the time this stuff was going on and Barringer was just as bad as Eastside. The summer before my freshman year, during summer school classes, a teacher was raped at Barringer and my dad was like ... oh, hell no. He ended up sending me to Catholic school..... Our Lady of Good Counsel on Summer Ave.
What’s ironic is the kid who plays Sams, was arrested later in life for drug use. When I heard that story the first thing I thought out was the pep talk on the roof with Sam’s and Morgan freeman. I literally heard his voice.
Two actors in this move have been in Star Trek tv shows. The lawyer plays Nelix in Voyager, and the head of security plays the leader of the klingon Empire
This movie is most definitely based on a true story. I remember when the movie first came out in theatres and Entertainment Tonight actually interviewed the real Joe Clark. I'm sure that interview is probably available somewhere on TH-cam or some other video site. It's probable that certain elements of the real story were changed for dramatic effect, as is usually the case with movies based on real people, but for the most part from what I understand it is quite accurate.
Miss Kitty Fantastico I remember that well. I actually recall being kind of confused when I 1st saw him in an actual movie (not sure what movie, I think it was probably Brubaker).
Movies in a similar vein... Stand and Deliver Dangerous Minds Freedom Writers ...and not about the problem school, but about an excellent (tho fictional) teacher... Mr Holland's Opus
I love 'teacher/classroom' movies. This is one of my favorites, along with 'Stand and Deliver', 'Freedom Writers', 'To Sir, With Love', and 'Dangerous Minds'.

I watched this movie today and almost cried during the scene when they went to the girl's mother's house and she explained that she hated who she saw herself as. I would've teased somebody for that 10 years ago.
I really like your reaction to Lean On Me ; it is one of my favorite movies . I get that this is your channel John Marcos and you should run it how you want... I have one suggestion and take it with a grain of salt ( just an expression ) . When doing a reaction to something "based on a true story" event that received national attention like this situation did... it would be great to show some respect to it and use Google for some in put instead of just assuming that it's not really a true story. That is the only thing that bothered me with this reaction but you did a very genuine and excited reaction with Lean On Me and I am looking forward to many more of your reactions . The one security guard has appeared on a lot of tv shows... including Star Trek. In Deep Space Nine, iirc, he portrayed Jake Sisko as an adult/old man when his father got caught in a time bubble.

In the mid-1990s, I attended a lecture by the real Joe Clark. Someone in the audience asked him about the film. Was it sensationalistic? He replied: "Don't tell anyone, but they underplayed me."
The real Joe Clark was my mom’s principal and let’s just say Morgan Freeman played him really well
"They used to call me Crazy Joe, now they can call me Batman!" This is a classic, it really hit home when I was younger and in school.
It's so dope that the guys in the bathroom who sang the school anthem were the actual students from Eastside, and played themselves in the movie.
