Fun fact, the guitar solo on this song and No Sleep Til Brooklyn were played by Slayer guitarist Kerry King. They were recording an album at the same time in the same studio and he was asked to contribute
It’s back when people either got porn on VHS tapes or magazines. And the video stores had the adult room so whenever grownups (I was 8 when this song came out) went in, everybody in the store knew. 😂😂😂
Or to be more accurate, before the Internet was more than just e-mail and a few bulletin boards on a black screen with white text and little to no graphics. This was 1986, and the Internet had _technically_ become official on January 1, 1983, when I wasn’t even 2 lol.
The music scene is so much different now than it was back 30 years ago. MTV music television was a big big big deal. The songs were only really part of it .. the actual videos were what many of us loved to see. So many great creative videos from back in the day .. god i miss MTV
I was about 16 when this dropped and I despised these guys AT FIRST... I thought they were so phony but over the years I came to realize they were very talented and their music became a lot more authentic...Great reaction!!!
This dropped in the mid 80's Did you see a very young LL Cool J? Yep the beastie boys, LL and Run DMC hooking up with rick Ruben. Great times , especially seeing any of them live back then not just on MTV.
More BEASTIE BOYS!!! PASS THE MIC SO WHATCHA WANT SKILLS TO PAY THE BILLS (LIVE VERSION) HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER SHAKE YOUR RUMP THANK YOUUUUUU FOR REACTING TO THE GREAT BEASTIE BOYS❤❤❤❤
This song and the music video were both intended as a parody. It's a joke that people just didn't get. Instead the very people being parodied, preppies, embraced the song as an anthem.
That intro was an homage/reference to the early ’80s film _Revenge of the Nerds_ . Also, the Beastie Boys are pretty much the founding fathers of hip-hop,which started in 1973, and by mid-1990, thanks to their efforts, had finally become mainstream.
I was in jr high when this hit. I can tell ya , I have attended a few parties like that back in high school, but we didnt destroy the place. We all came back the next day to clean the house
A lot of people that don't know this, but they discovered LL Cool J. They actually started out as a punk rock band, but the music scene changed and only rappers were getting hired for gigs, son they changed their style a little.
You thought there was tissue on their glasses at the beginning; back in the day the stereotypical trope was for "nerds" to have lots of tape on their black plastic glasses, lol, i assume because it was implied they got beat up a lot and their glasses got broken and they had to tape them back together, cause back in the 50s and 60s when basically the only glasses available were the black plastic ones, they were hella expensive, your parents weren't likely to replace them.
Saw them in 1998 as a 17 year old. Literally had my shirt ripped-off, crowd surfing and moshing to Sabotage. Something to remember, these albums were made to be listened to from start to end. Songs by themselves are amazing but the full Beastie experience comes from the whole album.
And they were members from 2 punk bands and were introduced to rap and hip hop and went that way. They were pretty suc3ssful with the punk stuff too in reallity.
This video is like a John Hughes 80's movie on some whacked out lab created drugs...lol. Reminds me of Revenge of the Nerds...lol. This was their first hit. 1986. Yes, I'm that old...lol. I was 12 when this came out.
5:48 Apparently they used pies they got from a grocery store dumpster and had gone rotten, so once the pies started flying the whole set literally started to stink like a sewer.
If you like the 80’ rap check out one of the OG’s Slick Rick. I have both my Gen Z daughters singing Children’s Story with me. Also 1993 Snoop covered Slick Rick’s La Di Da Di. There is a TH-cam video of which one does it better. 🤷
They kinda hate this song but they cashed those checks! Paul's Boutique and even Check Your Head need attention but their whole catalog is FIRE and VERSITILE. Watch HipHopDX "The greatest band ever" he breaks down their career better than anyone.
I never was impressed with the destructive nature of Beastie Boys and found them shallow and boring. If you want something intense but less juvenile, react to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. 🌶️ Fantastic unique sound!!
Fun fact, the guitar solo on this song and No Sleep Til Brooklyn were played by Slayer guitarist Kerry King. They were recording an album at the same time in the same studio and he was asked to contribute
I do believe the one in the Slayer shirt is Rick Rubin the producer.
This the answer to “what did you do before the internet?” 🤘🏻
It’s back when people either got porn on VHS tapes or magazines. And the video stores had the adult room so whenever grownups (I was 8 when this song came out) went in, everybody in the store knew. 😂😂😂
no kidding, right. we found things to do.

LL Cool J does not give the love he deserves. He had some solid jamz.

Ah the good old days... Twitter would have an aneurysm if this was released today
I was 8 when this song came out and I've loved it ever since.
I'm glad today's youth is going back and listening to what was big when their parents were their age, but man this makes me feel old.

You gotta do Make some noise, the video is the sequel to this one ;)
5:48 Apparently they used pies they got from a grocery store dumpster and had gone rotten, so once the pies started flying the whole set literally started to stink like a sewer.
