They were spiking the punch with "Spanish Fly", a mythical drink that causes ladies to be horny. It was a recurring trope in some 80s comedy movies. It's basically Funky Cold Medina, for younger folks.
Wow, this came out when I was stationed in Germany in the Arny. Lol. I remember hearing it all over the barracks. Thanks for a blast from the past Biz.
I was in high school when this song dropped and it practically became my class's anthem, LOL. My band back then even used to play it - was always a tune that could get kids on their feet and singing along.
I was in college when this came out and I met a guy who was visiting the USA from South Africa. He loved this song and had never heard of it in his country. So, after he went back to his country I bought him this cassette and shipped it to him. I’m thinking that because of apartheid and artists boycotting South Africa, it wasn’t available there.
This is interesting. This past week, I was looking for your reaction to this song. You hadn't reviewed it, but suddenly, here you are. I'm about to dive in. I'm excited.
I knew the story you were gonna tell before you did. This actually happened to my best friend - her brother found tons in their attic from previous owners - of course he never told his mom or anything. LOL! This was in Ohio though. As per Beastie Boys - I had a DJ friend and back in 1993 he used to play this at The Limelight in NYC on a off night - Sunday - watch the crowd go NUTS! I never see Beasties play this in their alter 90s concerts. I think because this was their first album and when they left Def Jam they matured and had their own style independent of that label who probably had more influence than they were comfortable with. That's just a guess. Sadly, some of the bands that stayed got pigeon holed into a formula that made money but dkd t allow them to grow as much. They were brave to walk away but also admitted in interviews that they came from families who had more money and that gave them the cushion financially to move on - and they admit they were lucky in that regard. Honestly - who would know they'd write much more complex albums than this? When they toured with Madonna (who knew they'd be big) in 1986 her audience didn't know what to make of them. They got booed a lot. White audiences weren't quite there yet - a year later they would be.
Beastie Boys "HEY LADIES"
“No Sleep Till Brooklyn” and “Three MCs and One DJ”. Love it! ☮️❤️😎

You are definitely one of the top 5 reactors easily, keep up the work. Love your diversity/true interest in good music of any genre.

This... Was the RULE of LIFE in the 90's. We lived man.

While I’m not their demographic, I could always relate to “you gotta fight…for the right…..to paaaaaaaaartay!!” ☮️❤️
It's still a world wide struggle, Sis. Keep partying! ✌️❤️ from Ky
all time classic! ♥
"Make Some Noise" is the sequel to this video, but it was released almost 30 years later. You should definitely check it out!
As a Party veteran, I thank them for their service. 🍻
BEASTIES!
This is one of those where you remember where you were when you first heard it. It was so different.
That song was our theme song. LOL. I had just graduated from high school, but was still at home when this came out.
One of my Favorites from those boys❤❤❤❤

Rap is not my favorite genre but back in the 90's I used to watch a lot of rap videos and the Beastie Boys were one of my favorites.

I didn't remember the guitar being mixed that low. The first steps in combining rap and metal.
Shadrach. One of their best songd
This became a party anthem despite the fact they wrote it as a joke.
Follow this up with the sequel for Fight for Your Right with Make Some Noise from the Beasties.
Yoooo!!! Love your reactions brother Biz! God bless you 🙏🏼
I appreciate that!

At one time, my opinion of the Beastie Boys was zero. Then this song came out, and I had to reconsider.

The Beastie Boys have a killer catalog of music. When this dropped I was in my professional partying days and this song turned everything up a notch.
Beastie Boys-Brass Monkey plssss🔥🔥
RIP MCA
This is up there with their worst song. Check out their good shit, "Shadrach" is a hell of a tune and music video! \m/
Innocent INDEED
I always thought they were highly overrated.
