Desiree just walking into a room and tasting sand was and remains my favourite and most memorable thing I've seen from her. That is the beauty of Taskmaster. It just breaks you. That clip really establishes the ambiance the contestants are experiencing in the house. She made the psychological experience visible. Fantastic stuff.
‘Snooker’ with a short ‘oo’ certainly is a word in any land, namely the land of Wales, as Rob Brydon has pointed out on ‘Would I Lie to You?’ And Désirée makes a good point that if a word isn’t used in American English she has to arbitrarily choose which British pronunciation to use.
I've actually never heard this word pronounced out loud until this very youtube video and I was so surprised at how the British pronounce it. For whatever reason Snooker is pretty unheard of here. It seems like pool but different? But I think for US Americans who sometimes watch British TV I'm surprised to here it because I only ever read it occasionally on Wikipedia the featured article will be a Snooker player. But the funny thing is that even though I have only seen the word like on a list of sports and stuff there is a way that Desiree and I both pronounced it is what google says is the American pronunciation. And that's interesting to me. Because I think Americans say Snooker significantly less. But there are lots of interesting things that exist in the difference between British and American English. i can see either being surprising but I also feel like there is a rule involved somehow. Like how if there is a word from outside of English that comes into English, British people will say it in a specific way that is different than American people even though both would sound off to the people in the language that originated the word would say it. Like Cafe is said differently in British and American English and I think French people would find either pronunciation to be varying a bit from how they would say this word they made to describe a thing coming from Arabic I think. IDK
although I'm sure that Desiree, having lived in the UK for a bunch of years probably has heard it to me it' just interesting because I am from the United States. I have never even seen a Snooker table in real life. I have only read the word in like the guiness world records sports section and on Wikipedia. But, having never heard this word said out loud, Desiree's original way of saying it is how I assumed it would be said. And that is supposedly the American pronunciation. But, I mean how even is there an American pronunciation if generally speaking Americans don't say Snooker. I am willing to bet that no one in my building who grew up in the United States has ever said snooker. But we'd all say it the same way probably for a lot of reasons like it looks like looker, booker, cooker etc. But it's more like Snoopy, Spook. kind of thing
On the other hand, she's been in Britain long enough to call the letter "z" "zed" rather than "zee", so you'd think she'd have heard the British pronunciation of "snooker" before.
@@scottyslearningcorner6080Yeah as an American, I always read it with the short O. That’s because most words with -ooker are pronounced that way (looker, booker, cooker) but I can’t think of any with a long O.
I'm glad they included the "Drink with your mouth open" task, cause I was in the same boat as her. Drinking with my mouth open is easy,. It loses context without the others just STRUGGLING and then her doing it in 7 seconds is great.
I'm so glad that the first American they got for Taskmaster was one who didn't make us look bad. She was my second favourite in series 12 after Guz (who, to be fair, is my favourite contestant ever, next to James Acaster).
@@SleepingDragon1 If you live close enough to the populated regions of Canada a lot of their spelling creeps over. Defence, offence, cancelled, travelled and catalogue are all examples of spelling that I had to 'unlearn' when I moved away from the border.
It's hilarious watching back and realising how close Des was to actually using the scissors really early on. But then she reconsidered- possibly the costliest mistake in all of Taskmaster history.
I don't know why, but my instinct with that first task would have been to grab the Greg portrait from inside the house, and build my shelf to the height the portrait's eyes would be at when resting the frame on the ground.
Desire is easily my most favorite contestant from any series. She had such a fun energy and was ready to roll with the punches of the show. She treated her fellow contestants with such warmth and good humor. She's the best.
Is it unusual to be able to drink with your mouth open? I tried it myself when I saw the original episode and again after watching this because I can never believe how much people struggled with it and sure enough it was no problem.
Feel like Desiree shows if they had pick better contestants for the abysmal US version it could of worked I say this as an American that loves Taskmaster and cried at how horrible the States version was.
I don't think so, Taskmaster is a pretty British invention, and a pretty quintessentially British concept. You can't straight up replicate it in the cultural context of America, some real adaptation seems necessary to me.
Amazing how in the last three series there's been a contestant who forgets Greg Davies' name in some way. Let's see when John Kearns is going to do the same...
The balloon one always drives me mad because so long as the rope is in front of you you’re behind it. There isn’t a fixed side of it that makes it in front of or behind you - it’s only defined relative to you. So you just have to face it from the shop/balloon side and then walk backwards till you’re at the balloon.
I’ve just realised that all they needed to do in the balloon task was undo the knot in the string .. where is Hugh Dennis when you need him?! Certain he would’ve done it 😅
@@DaniZam41 I thought that too but I think the ‘rope’ refers to the red divider and the other thing would just be considered string?.. idk I’d risk it and hope Greg agreed 😅
Gotta love her determination to not use the scissors for the balloon task lmao
But the manic duck throwing was superb !
She was so accurate with the slingshot too!
It cost her the task, but she won the hearts of the fans
I think easily the most confident person they've ever had the show, Desiree knows who she is and she loves herself for it win or lose
I’d agree…until Judy Love arrived! I love both of them!
@@practicallyperfect2941 yes, Judi was an absolute gem. I also like to think Katherine was extremely confident too, she twerked in front of a mayor
I feel like Judi took the 'dumb' act too far.
Most confident? I don't think so. Most bubbly and unrefined? Yes. It's a very American energy she brings
I think Munya may have taken the most confident crown now! 😂
"That's the worst attempt we've seen at any tasks"
cue Bridget Christie and a room full of shoes
hehe... I think Sophie Willan is topping the charts at this point. Less "crazy" funny and more just "flip-the-table-task-done" funny. xD
Cue nick and steve with a watermelon
Or Bridget attempting to walk in general 😂😂😂😂
6:55 her face when she says "an hour well spent sir" after she's already been throwing things at the balloon for at least ten minutes is exquisite.
"That is not the game, that is not the show." She made it fun for US and we love her for it!
Desiree has such a heart of gold, this series was so wholesome 😭😭
Desiree can somehow make the sentence "I don't have a gag reflex" wholesome.
This is the best set of contestants. They were great to watch and they really seemed to enjoy each other. My favorite to watch and rewatch.
I relished the sisterhood that formed among Victoria, Morgana, and Desiree - how they hyped each other.
Agreed! That being said, I haven't seen the most recent series.
The bond all of them had in this one was great, though.
Same here!
Alex holding his fist in front of his face laughing when the spikes didn't drop on the balloon is so subtle and so hysterical.

Desiree is one of the contestants I never tire of watching. Even when she's at her most frazzled, she's still joy in human form.
I love watching her throw forks at the balloon. I also love that she threw the bucket after then.

Des was an absolute riot! I'm glad she was able to stand out on what I felt was a really strong cast.
My favourite thing abozt her was that she was so damn polite throughout the tasks. Even during the most aggravating ones!
"That's never going away"
Yeah, I think Desirée eating sand on television probably isn't ever going away. :D
"Brother, this is not sensible." Guz is my spirit animal.
Typo in the title!! Everybody quick, get them!

You guys might want to double check how her name is spelled...
Loved her in this series! Clever at times, chaos at others.
my favorite thing about the balloon task is that desiree has surprisingly good aim with the slingshot and it didn't do her any good

Anyone else lose it when they saw Desiree in Sandman? 😆
desiree in the drinking task is so impressive haha

Not to sound patriotic or anything, but we couldn’t have asked for a better representative as the first American on Taskmaster

Fully expected someone to buy the darts and the slingshot then use the darts in place of the pebbles as armor piercing bullets.
I hope that would work!
