After a decade of relentless touring and recording in all but complete obscurity, the Texas-bred/New York-based quasi-collective suddenly found itself held up by the press and public as one of the major figures in the jazz world. But as the category names for two Grammy awards would indicate (Best R&B Performance 2014 and Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016 and 2017), Snarky Puppy isn’t exactly a jazz band. It’s not a fusion band, and it’s definitely not a jam band. It’s probably best to take Nate Chinen of the New York Times’ advice, as stated in an online discussion about the group, to “take them for what they are, rather than judge them for what they’re not.”
Snarky Puppy is a collective of sorts with as many as 25 members in regular rotation. They each maintain busy schedules as sidemen (with such artists as Erykah Badu, Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, and D’Angelo), producers (for Kirk Franklin, David Crosby, and Salif Keïta), and solo artists (many of whom are on the band’s indy label, GroundUP Music). At its core, the band represents the convergence of both black and white American music culture with various accents from around the world. Japan, Argentina, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Puerto Rico all have representation in the group’s membership. But more than the cultural diversity of the individual players, the defining characteristic of Snarky Puppy’s music is the joy of performing together in the perpetual push to grow creatively.

Good lord these guys are just spectacular... thanks for the quality upload
I gitta say, Michael league is not only one of the best bass players, but such a good sicial musician, meaning if you watch him when other players solo, he looks at them the whole time with 100 percent focus and absolutely loves what they do. His face is always moving with thier solos and we reacts with such glee and enjoyment. I love that so much. What a great guy.
Pure savage!
While on stage he is the happiest man on earth
I agree! He's absolutely the consumate team leader and professional musician!

Merci beaucoup 😉.
Ce groupe est fabuleux, il m a donnée envie de réécouter du jazz rock, ce que je n avais fait depuis 30 ans.
Longue vie à eux.
Just discovering Snarky Puppy, blown away and hooked. And I thought I was musically informed, how did I not know about these guys...
Yes that's how a lot of people feel. You'll love Ghost-Note too. Check this out: th-cam.com/video/yIev1Cu15-M/w-d-xo.html
I used to listen to a lot of the Mahavishnu Orchestra when I was a little kid. That orchestra was the epitome of fusion in my opinion, along with... I forget the name of the band consisting of Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, Al DiMiola and (I think) Lenny White. But Snarky Puppy are all that and so much more. And their youth is a huge promise of even greater things to come. In my opinion. I LOVE these... this band/orchestra!!!!
The band you speak of is Return to Forever
I love how they slowed it down for What About Me. These guys are TIGHT!!
It's hard for me to love another group of young, talented, cohesive musicians more than My Snarky Puppies
That guitar solo beginning at 11:20 is the best Ive heard in years, so expressive and emotional. I was almost mimicking Michael League at times during it.
I wish Chris McQueen was put into the spotlight more often, and that his volume was higher when he did lol
Love Michael League's face solos
Top face-ist....
Those basslines are so simple but yet so creative and colourful. They stand so good with all of these things happening.
These talented humans never cease to amaze me. I am mind blown
Find someone who looks at you the same way Michael League looks at his bandmates
Man, i was just about to post the same thing, but then i read your comment...beat me to it.
You know how many of these videos people have said that?! ;) Nearly all.
Yo I was there high as a kite in the front row!!!! The best band I’ve ever seen live!!!! First time seeing them at Leaf festival and snarky puppy was the only reason my dad and I went to the leaf festival. Such a great band
The interaction between League and Stanton in "GO" is just so fun to watch.
Snarky Puppy are just too good! These guys are just sooooo in to it!I just love their music for both "brain and booty"!Please please come to Serbia to some of our music festivals....we love you over here...Respect
I can't believe I'm just finding these incredible musicians. Mind expanding. So thoroughly satisfying.
my mind is blowed up.....grooviest vibe I've ever experienced.......reminds me of seeing Frank Zappa 50 year ago......but the orchestra just kept getting better and ore creative and tighter for every single one of those 50 years. Blowed UP.
Listening to these guys is awesome, watching them takes it to another level!
Michael looking like he's gonna drop a crazy lick but just waits, made me laugh so much. 10:18
16:38 *now descending into the snarky dimension*
James Redd when i heard that live it was the first time i listened to the song and ofcs i was blown away
Definition of an eargasm
My dad and I were basically front row at this!!! Best band I’ve ever seen live. We will also see Snarky Puppy at their festival in Miami next year!!! Making the trip from NC just for Snarky!!!!
We did that same thing last year. And will again. Best jazz fest ever, every performer was great. And then it starts all over again after hours!
Fine Ben, then I´ll make the trip from Bolivia.
Dude my dad and I were like 3d rowish at that show AND we were at the Miami festival LEAF is the way to go dude
Stanton hitting the lick at 30:24
Gotta say that was retry luscious use of the licc
Nice
Good catch.
Beep Box become my favorite track actually... so atmospheric!
Bonjour.
Ce groupe concentre un nombre d excellents musiciens.
C est à peine croyable 👍👍👍👍👍👍.
Bravo et surtout, continuez !!!!!!
"Beep box" track is better than studio version. Astonishing.
This really deserves more views and likes.
Was there. The place was half full since many did not know what SP was. Half way through the song the place was packed to the max!
Ed Severance happened the same watching Cory Henry live in my city
That moollon bass sounds awesome!!😮
Yes yes! Much love to EVERYONE here! Music is love!
Yo, Lil' Dicky be slaying tha bass.
Ayer pude disfrutar del concierto celebrado en Tenerife y son brutalmente excelentes.
Enhorabuena para todo el equipo que forman Snarky Puppy
Excellent!
5 Star quality entertainment 😁😁😁
The end of Semente and that syncopated insanity is worth more than I can explain. THANKS.
They wouldn't show the keyboardist who was laying it down, though. Bad camera work on that one. Michael's face during that said it all, though.
INCREDIBLE...!!!!
you guys sound always cool
adore your vids! :)
I don't care what genre you try to put them in, as the music industry loves to do, they are a fantastic group of musicians making great sounds that feed the soul of music lovers like me. Music is a universal language of sound. I must say though, Michael League be killing that bass!
Holy shit so good.
Maybe the best band of all time. How do you collect so many incredible horn players?!?
The guitarist was so good they cloned him and put him on keys.
There is a physical resemblance between most of these guys. If I understand correctly most of them did Uni together.
@@NMarkRoberts they did
@@NMarkRoberts thats cool, Chris and Justin do look alike
I've become used to seeing Justin Stanton rocking a beard through the past few years, so when I first saw him here I thought "Wait, Chris is on the keys?" lol
completely in love with what happens between Michael and Justin at 35:01 !
Listening to this made me say "hallelujah" a few times
Божественно!!!
🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗😙I
Love the last last song.
Super music !!!!!!!!!
This band's precision and musicianship is pretty much peerless right now.
j'adore c'est trés bon ( :==)))
The baddest
Currently there is no better band than this
cory henry (formaly of snarky puppy) and the funk apostles are up there
Cory Henry's band as has already been mentioned, New Mastersounds, Lettuce, Casiopea, The Square, Dimension, and artists like Marcus Miller, Herbie Hancock, and David Sanborn all have top bands. I wouldn't say any one is better than the other, they're all great in their own way.
wow!
Gettin' my Snark on !
Great concert. The lick at 30:24 btw
If I'm not mistaken I remember hearing Shaun Martin quote that same line @48:12 in one of his solos in this song some time ago. Crazy how music works lol.
There's a very high-pitched feedback of some sort starting at 27:57 ending around 29:10 that's brutal to listen to on headphones, but isn't very noticeable on speakers
Oh myyyy@ 16:40 on!!!!😎😎😎🤔🤗🤗🤗
Круто!!!!!!!!!!
1:12:30 drum sec literally planning the fill in hahaha
geniousssss
That fill from JT at 31:35!!!!!
Does someone have the theme from Henry's solo at 49:30 ? I love it
Only complaint, can't hear the guitar
Put me on the play list.
Did Yay Yennings quote Peaches en Regalia around 26:00? Or am I dreaming?
It does sound similar, but I don't think so.
That section before and after 1:01:00.
WTS go on michael on min 34? Hndsom
16:46 is this like... life LOFI wtf no no jk they're so good but the way it like drones in and out ahaha
link is pretty handy on a guitar
does anybody know which bass Michael League plays I am referring to the lable ;)
That's a Moollon Chambered P-Classic IV w/Jazz-sized (38mm nut width) neck ;)
The Got pocket t shirt tied it all together.
Awesome show. Yeah, too bad we're only hearing the guitar through the other mics on stage. His mic wasn't working or channel was down.
47:46
1:02:09
Does anyone have a handle on what bass Michael was using? I see a pickup selector, but only one pickup...
My guess would be that Fender did some semi-hollow pbass with a piezo pickup in the bridge?
M Thompson It's a custom bass made by Moollon.
16:04 gimme dat Beep box
32:21
They didn't play my favorite tune "Young Stuff", but nonetheless very good set
This rendition of Beep Box is pure sex
What happened at 4:58?
Michael League use Ampeg Amplifier?
Backline gear... we don't always get what we want.
54:55
too bad guitar didn't cut through better
Probably the guitar was at lower volume in the mixing desk because 'too much' sound was coming from the stage, a common 'problem' ...
43:39
9:43
Justin Stanton using a Juno Di? I'm surprised :)
Who IS the drummer please?
stratagelis that would Jason “JT” Thomas. He laid it down here for sure
stratagelis... Idk, but Man... he needs to smile more! LOL....
Jason Thomas the drummer is Dennis Chambers right? Just kidding
Kevin Nguyen LOL!! Never apologize for a compliment! It will NEVER be a bad thing to even be in the same sentence as Mr. Chambers! Have a great day dude…
Jason Thomas thanks bro , i have been admiring your work for ages!!
I have paid my dews.
Is the guitarist quitar low in the mix?
Yes. You can see right in the beginning that he was dealing with some issue. Such is life in the world of live performance. You are one of only 7 people that noticed so far. Good ear Christian!
I can´t listen the solo guitar....:S
Anybody else here from Citation Needed?
who's on keys?
is he related to Cory Henry?
It's an Henry obviously...but I did'nt understood his first name..
yea, i got that part
Vaughn “V-Keys” Henry from Miami Florida
THANK YOU!!!
JT's snare... Sheesh
Steven R hey do u know what snare he’s using?? I’m loving it too
Looks like a DW Performance as his main and a Black Beauty on the side.
what Aaron said. *_*
Aaron Martin thank you man! Been eagerly awaiting an answer, much appreciated 🤘
Jason Thomas of course it wouldn’t sound like that with anyone but you playing it. One of the deepest pockets on planet earth right now!
wonder if ol' mikey and co. gave the proceeds to reparations
They remind me of a little more funky and complex Phish. Not saying Phish is worse, just saying they are similar
30:24 THE LICK
@
At first glance, the Henry dude on keys kinda looks like Cory Henry. Is it just me? 47:18
I think he is his cousin...
NO PLASTIC
Seems like Snarky Puppy has been a victim of it's own succes with them losing some of their best members who went solo.
Petnarwhal agreed . sput searight - (mark lettieri )- cory henry all left snarky for their own projects. But i really miss them in this lineup
They rotate out members all the time and the lineup is different for a lot of thier live shows, but they record with a huge band.
Wes Tolson Nah, cory henry and sput just permanently left
Wait, really guys? Do you guys have any links I could read about this?
Diiego Haro listen to the meinl robert sput searight podcast. He talks about it there
47:09 my first time i didnt like it
Where is Cory Henry :(
They all rotate...he is probably on another project. There are about 25 *SP* musicians in all but they do other things.
Cory had his own band before the Pups, and now has 2 bands that are both touring the world. The Revival, & The Funk Apostles. Hasn't toured with us since 2015, last recording, Culcha Vulcha. He's not coming back, he's doing what he always wanted to do, & both his bands are Blazin! Go support him....
It's a theme song to eating a hot dog and watching TV... what the fuck happened to powerful music.
Well, if we're not giving it to you, do something about it & put some powerful music out yourself (*_*) Enjoy your Frank & TV...
