All that’s sampled from Kelis’ song is a drum line that Pharrell himself produced, no vocals, no lyrics. Pharrel produced this Beyoncé song so since he owns her masters obviously it was cleared with no question. I’d understand if it was a direct copy of Kelis’ song but you can not even recognise the sample in the song, she is still credited on the song. I understand her frustration but it seems a little dramatic for what it actually is being sampled
i understand kelis frustration bc she has no control when her song is sampled but that still her song and she didn’t know about her song being used until the day before the album dropped.
I was expecting the album to be trash because break my soul did just that to me, but I honestly loved the vocals and effort and it hoesntky did feel like she spent years on this music, not like she’s hopping on a trend. And nobody is talking about her blends of Ballroom, 70s groove, 80s disco and some rap and r&b inflections. Overall though, this has nothing on Lemonade, Beyonce, and 4 , but I think it’s better than all her albums I didn’t mention and I really wanna see her choreo for songs like this
I think kelis has to take account to that it’s possible that they never told Beyoncé that the song was written by her they probably call her team and said hey I have song for you. As well I don’t think they have to tell her who written the song.
tbh if beyonce reached out to kelis she probably could’ve helped her get royalties for the song bc her just working with neptunes without kelis knowing kelis just gon keep being reminded how she was cheated and will as always get nothing in the end

It reminds me of that time she released the 7/11 music video and the wyte ppl kicked up a fuss about her transition from ballad music. Her mother-in-law is also queer, (See JayZ's 2018 interview on My Next Guest, ep. title: _I Got A Paper Route Too_ ) so that might also factor into the creative process. What's obvious about said discography, however, is that she's celebrating her roots, with the texas aesthetics etc. and like all her other themes throughout her albums, it seems quite personal to her.
Empressive saying plastic off the sofa is the best song and Virgo’s groove and cuff it are her other favorites. That’s definitely to the extent that you should take her opinion cause clearly the album wasn’t for her either lol

Morally questionable when you consider the messaging she puts out.
Seeing as how Kelis doesn’t have writing credits on the song, Beyoncé and Pharrell don’t need permission from her. They need permission from the writers. And that’s what they got. now i havent touched this project yet but streets r saying its kinda good edit: okay now about this song, I find it very hard to believe beyonce does not know exactly where her samples come from she too involved w the music to not want to know everything behind the scenes
If Pharell owns the rights to the song and Kelis is only credited as the performer, she doesn't have to contact Kelis. Also the sample is quite short and not popular (IT's A DRUM BEAT LOL), so it might not have crossed Bey's mind or she trusted Pharell who might have told her it's his own beat.
unless she was there while the song was being produced or she asked what exact song was sampled then its easy to not know. Especially since its just drums that were sampled. If an artist listens to a sampled beat and hears the vocals it would make sense to be like what song did you sample. BUT if all they sampled was drums its highly unlikely you're going to be like "what song is this from". At most you would just ask who they need to clear the sample with ie Pharrell
First, Kelis didn't even own the song. She just sang it. So, Beyonce technically didn't have to ask her anything. That situation is between her and Pharell AND Kelis was still given credit for the song on the album and as a result of this foolishness, that was removed. So, all the ying yang she spouted out on social medial means nothing now. Kelis was a "one hit wonder", and the world moved on from her many moons ago. She is a non-factor. I like the album and can't wait for the concert!!! Some of the songs are "interesting". They remind me of the music in the T.V. show "POSE"..happy, go lucky..techno with driven beats, etc. It's definitely techno club music with a touch of hood, Caribbean, Disco, etc. All of the songs are not for everybody, but some of the songs are for everybody..if this makes sense. LOL My favorite song is Summer Renaissance.
Dee listen and judge for yourself..my opinion is its a different vibe from the norm and what makes beyonce a great artist...she's rapping on almost every song and I love it...
I don’t get how all these big female artists can talk about female empowerment and everything and then work with Pharell; who deliberately dogged and tricked Kelis out of her money.
Me personally, I did not like the album as much as I was hoping. "Heated" and "All Up In Your Head" are standout tracks to me and my favs, other than that, it's meh/mid

Kelis is just lashing out bc she can't actually do anything about it, so now everybody has to catch a stray.
Do you know they are already attacking one of the songs because of what they call offensive lyrics? This world is a trip, I mean with all the shooting going on people are actually attacking a song. I feel like she won't really like any of them. She's from Cali, so CHURCH GIRL isn't going to hit her the same. She'll like Heated if she's a Drake fan.
I’ve not been a big Beyoncé fan but Renaissance has me by the neck. I never thought she would, I thought I escaped it but she got me.
So... what Kelis is saying, is that it's not about Beyonce, and she's not mad about Beyoncè, all while making it about Beyoncè, and taking shots at Beyonce...? Walking contradiction, claiming that she's living her best life yet she's botherd in the same sentence. Leo vibes, girl do what you have to do with your lawyers. It's been years, if it's that important to you, fight it at the court of law, not the court of public opinion who know nothing about the industry -which you didn't even explain as you claimed you would before devolving into your video rant.
Your fans may eat it up, but the truth about your ego is between you, your god, and therapist.
Beyoncé and her camp has been through this for many years with other artists. Kelis is not the problem. And I’m a fan of Beyoncé. Truth is truth
@@nikk5002 I don't care, and frankly that was not what I was pointing out. Re-read what I just said, ask yourself if you are a licensed lawyer who's getting paid by Kelis in an actual civil dispute, then come back and try again.
@@Prof.SeverusSnape oooh you mad lmao
@@nikk5002 No they haven’t. Besides that one situation with Messy Mya, which really wasn’t a problem, Beyoncé has never had this problem. She has always, credited people properly or gone to the correct source to have a sample or visual cleared. Kelis doesn’t own the first half of her catalogue,so Beyoncé didn’t have to bother to speak to her about it. Tbh, Beyoncé did more than enough by giving the girl writing credits so they she could be up for awards consideration. So yeah, this isn’t the normal occurrence you think it is.
@@nikk5002 and you're trying too hard. I'm getting the sense you're the narcissistic types that like to try psychological bs, and you're too stupid to have anything of value to add. My five minutes of attention is up. 🤷♀️
I was with Kelis until I heard the full story. I understand the frustration but its definitely misplaced and it’s not another artists job to fix it for you. It’s a fantastic dance album imo but if you’re not open to different types of music you might not like it. For me I truly love all kinds of music and sounds from different genres to cultures so I appreciated it.
Beyonce sampled the drumbeat that Pharrell made. Why should Beyonce have to call her lol
And kelis vocals are on it. Beyonce is wrong, just admit it.
You mean the Neptunes . The Neptunes are chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams.
@@tkblouch1588 Kelis doesn’t own it tho. Neptunes wrote, produced, and own it. She doesn’t have to ask Kelis anything. I might’ve been nice but she doesn’t owe shorty anything. And this is coming from an unbiased pov bc I don’t listen to Beyoncé like that
@@therandom58 No, kelis wrote her own songs but got swindled out of her publishing and rights. She partially owns a negligible amount of something she should own 100%. Kelis knows she has no legal rights to her songs, but from one artist to another, Beyonce clearly knows how this works. Artist reach out to one another for this type of stuff all the time, but Beyonce chose to not do it. Usually, it's a 50/50 deal with artist and producers when collaborating, but some producers will tell you to change certain things like words or a line or two during recording and claim they co-wrote the song. Sometimes, producers steal all the rights because they know the business side more than the artist. You know she was robbed bad when she wasn't even contacted when her likeness and vocal were featured on the sample. That's insane if you really know the business.
@@tkblouch1588 Do u have any actual proof that she wrote the song besides her saying she wrote the song bc the Neptunes have the writing credit and are well known song writers
I'm 7 days late but Beyonce not only pulled the sample but removed the credits of that song off her album.
Some people may think it's for her to distance herself but I really believe once she got wind of this she was like no that's not right.
Beyonce isn't about that drama that's why she doesn't fuck with alot of people and I don't blame her.
Lying on Pharrell's name. He probably did help her write those songs. Its not his fault she was young and signed her rights away.
i understand kelis frustration bc she has no control when her song is sampled but that still her song and she didn’t know about her song being used until the day before the album dropped.
Overall though, this has nothing on Lemonade, Beyonce, and 4 , but I think it’s better than all her albums I didn’t mention and I really wanna see her choreo for songs like this
Well it was trash 🗑 very underwhelming
lol this album is MUCH better than Lemonade and 4. It's my number 1 then B'Day and then BEYONCÉ.

Renaissance is a masterpiece! Period. It’s amazing
I think kelis has to take account to that it’s possible that they never told Beyoncé that the song was written by her they probably call her team and said hey I have song for you. As well I don’t think they have to tell her who written the song.
Renaissance is a masterpiece. Needs to be listened to with headphones and no stops and skips because of the transitions and sequencing.
tbh if beyonce reached out to kelis she probably could’ve helped her get royalties for the song bc her just working with neptunes without kelis knowing kelis just gon keep being reminded how she was cheated and will as always get nothing in the end
It was a 15 second drum beat and a courtesy is not owed. Kelis needs to get what she is owed but leave Bey out of it.

Right, ts was funny 😂😂
the album sounds great. i’m not a fan of dance pop or ballroom music but i love it. i would definitely recommend a listen!
I can't. Beyonce never does anything to these folks. The problem is she is so silent that speculation becomes it's own entity about her. We can just assume the person she is because on a personal level she never shows us!
it’s trash??? like i can understand not caring for the old school/house sound but even then you should be able to tell whether a song is good or not no matter the genre
Ppl do the same thing to country even though it's not their style they call it trash. IGNORANCE
I’m sorry but the way DEE closed that computer had me WEAK🤣🤣🤣
There are some songs on the album that aren't the best but the way that it flows together makes it as a whole a good album.
I let it play from beginning to end.
I'd have to listen to it again to see which ones are my favorites.
WOW Dee Shanell made the most sense when it came to Beyonce wanting to stay out of the mess between them 2. So glad I watched this. Yes I'm part of the Bey Hive but this actually made sense. I agree 100%👍🏽😁
she dedicated the album the to her uncle and queer people but anyone can listen to it and like it
It reminds me of that time she released the 7/11 music video and the wyte ppl kicked up a fuss about her transition from ballad music.
Empressive is annoying sometimes
@@heathermooney7013 very much so
It’s not Beyonces responsibility. She cleared it with who she had to, legally. It’s not the first time this has happened with her but she’s in the clear because these artists don’t own their own samples and it’s not her job to fix that. Even if she knew what happened to Kelis, it just means more drama that’s none of her business in the first place.
I saw that she was credited on the album. I think she should be more mad at pharrell than beyonce. Pharrell is the one that owns her masters. I would suggest Kelis lawyer up and sue pharrell for her masters. If she doesn't want this to happen again.
💯
Don't forget to listen to the album with headphones
Album was definitely not trash. It's different but it's very fun! I don't know why people are looking for lyrics when it's supposed to have you get up and let go! I can be honest and say a few songs have to grow on me but I love most of it! One of the best drops of 22'
What has kellis ever done for females..beyonce puts her money where her mouth is and has charities to fund ventures for black women....kellis on the other hand is sitting there talking reckless about a black women when she could have easily just called her and had a convo since according to her they know each other..kellis you should monetize this moment instead of criticizing this moment...
Kelis is right to be angry although it’s misplaced imo. Beyoncé imo maybe could’ve said something directly but I’m glad she removed the sample and I know she’s not one for drama. I like the album a lot it’s one of my favorites from her. it’s not trash
If she does not own it they don't have to reach out to her. It may be common courtesy to her but they did not steal anything.
Cuff It, Alien Superstar, Virgos Groove, Plastic Off the Sofa, America Has a Problem, All Up In Your mind ate my favorites.
The entire album and aesthetic is definitely gonna be in all of our ears. Those who werent into the sound before is gonna be obsessed by the time ACT 1 Era is over lol Virgo's Groove is on repeat! So is Alien Superstar

Although i didn’t listen to all the songs in her renaissance album some songs i do fw like cozy, virgos groove, heated and alien superstar. But some of the other songs i did hear and i’m tryin to go with it like summer renaissance. But overall the album is good in my opinion
I know you ain’t gonna really mess with this album but Ik thique and America has a problem is a hit.
I agree with kelis understand her frustration. Kelis was only 18 , 19 when signed that shit#y contract in the 90s with the Neptunes , that is chad and Pharrell. She was young , uneducated about the business. It happened to a lot of people they took kelis lyrics she wrote and go- wrote erased her name ghosted her with publishing. People it’s example get your own lawyer so you can understand these contracts. So her anger is mostly at Pharrell and chad it’s not the first time her speak I’m out . We hear about this all the time the business is shady .

Ok but what does that have to do with beyonce..that's the reason she's getting the side eye..beyonce did way more than she had to by crediting kellis...kellis is being hateful out of jealous and it has nothing to do with respect..the fact thar kellis isn't using this as a monetary opportunity shows why she got screwed over she has allot of ego but no business sense...

I'm mixed on this, I get Kelis being frustrated finding out she was sampled the same time we did seems kinda shady considering she fell out with Pharrell and ran in the same circles with Beyonce, so I can understand feeling blindsided and like it's shady but technically Beyonce didn't do anything wrong it's just... Morally questionable when you consider the messaging she puts out.
One thing about Dee! She gone record no matter what!! I love her and her work ethic❤️
Renaissance is AMAZING. Every song is brilliantly created, a album with no skips.
She has the right to be anger.
Seeing as how Kelis doesn’t have writing credits on the song, Beyoncé and Pharrell don’t need permission from her. They need permission from the writers. And that’s what they got. Would it have been nice to get permission from Kelis? Sure. But they didn’t steal anything, they asked the people that they were legally supposed to.

After listening to it because I can’t see the screen hence my screen then I am completely blind but the way you talked about things pretending to that other lady talking in the video and police talking you not only have a new subscriber you are fabulous fantastic and flawless I loved your video and I love the fact that you were telling the truth in saying that you had listen to the Renaissance album yet and that you were gonna do some research and stuff so thank you for letting me know about the Kelis and Pharrell end so call Beoncye drama I found it very informative and it is and it was exactly what I wanted and like I said you know having new subscriber and you made this plane and very very happy! Also the lady that was talking in the video doesn’t know what house he’s talking about about the house music and all that it’s all sorts of music the tracks that she mention are good tracks but it is not a dance house record it is a leave everything on the floor see it all in like she said in the video a very Braggadocious album and a very fierce album in my opinion but I am a 43-year-old gay man so I don’t know if that has anything to do with loving dance music it’s more of a 16 track album that just makes me smile throughout the whole album! I give the Renaissance album by Beyoncé 10 out of 10 stars because it was not what I was expecting but every song made me happy and joyous and I love when Beoncye calls out her haters and she does it so flawlessly well on this album! I truly do understand why Kelis would be upset, I’m not saying I don’t. However, her venting to us commoners is pointless. kelis wasn’t credited on the original song….

Renaissance is a MASTERPIECE. It is a body of work and Beyoncé’s artistry is evident on every track. Instant Classic & an amazing lesson on the history of Black Dance Music.
As for the irrelevant drama, Beyoncé owed Kelis nothing and owes her even less now. For a Black woman to try and taint another Black woman’s moment is especially distasteful to me.
