Here is a trick for you. After having typed "Option Explicit" a what seems like a million times I discovered that one can set it to be the default!
In Visual Basic
Tools-->Options--> Editor-->Code Settings
select "Require Variable Declaration"
Ta Dah! When created code window will now contain "Option Explicit". Can't understand why it isn't the default.

Iskko Iskkov There isn't any control in Access for capturing input like that. I can only suggest you find a painting program and use it to import the images into your database. That is much more advanced of a concept though because you'll have to know how to use the reference to that applications library or an API of some sort.

Steve. We receive pdf's from our clients with all sorts of file names. I would like an option to :
1. Locate the clients file - say from desktop
2. Rename file using file name convention based on text form fields from db - eg Year_ClientName_DocType.pdf (2018_MyClient_TrustDeed.pdf)
3. Save new file is specific folder

really i follow all your video they are very helpful to me, however i have an idea about linking tables, when you split the db to fe & be we need a scenario to check for the linking tables to its original linked one even if we have multiple database file which we need to connect to and we must grantee if you have any updates to the front end to ensure when opening the front end to check also for that updated links i've some idea to be used but i'm not sure how can be implemented
if you have tested scenario appreciate to make a video for that or if you want i can share with you my ideas

It would be great if you could find a way to scan multiple images using a page feeder on the scanner. I asume many applications will need to scan more then one page per file. I tried to look into the WIA and also searched the web but did not manage to get this going with WIA. Maybe you will be more successful. There are third party applications that allow this, but I would prefer to manage this with WIA.

Think of a barcode scanner as something that just does a copy and paste into the field the cursor is already in. It will only do the one copy and paste job at a time though so you can't fill in multiple fields, just one.

Yes I did. I learn how to establish report as per your video. but this type of report list all the results. What I am trying to establish a report to list what I only select from the entire results population.. For example I have a table has four results R1, R2, R3, R4. Each result represented as a row. Each result has an ID. How can I establish a report to list what I only select from those four results. Such as I only selected R1 and R4 and I am looking to report those tow results only, how can I do that?

I'm making a reference to a third party DLL (not a Microsoft's DLL) and after the procedure that uses it is called. It crashes MS Access and the Viewer Events from Windows throws a hint with error in the ntdll.dll which isn't the same DLL I'm using. Do you have any idea about what is happening here? Thanks!
There could be any number of reasons. ntdll.dll is a system file. It likely has nothing to do with Access or the dll file you downloaded.
Thanks. I think the same thing. But, what is weird is that Access crashes just when I run that Subroutine. It's being a pain. That wasn't happening to Access back in Windows XP using the same code

I'm sure there is, it would take some tinkering to figure out exactly how it's done but I would imagine the process is very similar if not identical.

Sure, just use the scanners interface to save it as a file, then import that file with the file dialog code.

Hello...I am very new to access and trying to teach myself. I am in need of creating a database four a store where I can keep track of inventory that is coming in and when it sales. I have been racking my brain and think it would be nice if able to do so using access and somehow creating a bar code when entering the item to create a sticker that will be placed on the item. When the item is sold scanning again that would then document the sale? Where can I start to learn how to do this or if it is possible?

Yup. Just print out the bar codes. And when you scan them with the barcode scanner, it acts just as if you were typing in the coded characters wherever your cursor is when you scan.

I have not tested this, but it should. As long as your system can detect the scanner it should work.

A barcode is nothing more than a font for characters. A scanner will read the barcode and output the characters. If your cursor is in a textbox at the moment you scan the barcode, then the computer will output those characters to that textbox.
Sorry to be naive, so the product scanner used in the stores would also be detected by WIA and it can be stored as bar code font or the scanned file can be saved as an attachment too?

Senthil Nathan With the scanning guns they act more like keyboards than cameras. You don't need any special software to capture the image, you just scan and it types out the characters as if you did it on your keyboard.

I think you may want to re-watch it. There is no code that shows the path since you select the path.

What do you mean by learn specific libraries?
Like in this video. You had to activate a certain library to be able to use a scanner. I think If I want to play audio file, I will have to activate different library. So, it hard to find such knowledge about it unless some good people like you give free lessons on youtube.

Changing diagfile.initialfilename = "*.jpg" works it create a file with ending jpg but the file size is like bmp if you do that with pdf the file size is the same too but broken file if you try to open. I think the reason is that the image is only saved as bmp. What can we do?

The way my db is setup is that a form has a picture path field and a image frame object. The image frame displays whatever image is in the path field. So actual images are saved in folders on the HDD because of MS Access' 2GB limit. Thus avoiding the attachment data type.
Is there syntax that will let me paste the path in the picture path field on the form for the record I am working on? Preferably after I choose where to save the scan all in one.

You can't change references with some VBA code, but the problem is when the application first initializes it will still tell the user there is a problem connecting to the library. It's better to use Late Binding to solve this problem.

How can I get Access to enter login data to a website and then display the results?
Omaida Delgado Oh wow... that CAN be done but it is very very complicated. You can either open an Internet Explorer object in VBA, or an xmlhttp object. Then read the data stream of the object and look for a special set of tags that the page uses for it's input.
You really need to have intimate knowledge of HTML and potentially Javascript to make it work and that's only if the page uses HTML/JS. If it's a Java page, I'm afraid I don't know of a way at all to make it work. That doesn't mean there isn't a way, just not one that I personally have tried to do.

I am new to programming. I have made a single user inventory application in MS Access 2010. I need to make it multi-user and need to give different editing permissions to the users. For eg., one user will have right only to enter purchase orders, other one has the right to view the actual cost of the products and so on. Please help.
It depends on how complex you want to make it. For most apps I just add a field to my employees table (or user table, whichever is holding the login info) and make it a numeric column. Assign a number to each user, I usually just need to use 0-3. A 0 is just a user, 1 has some editing ability, 2 has even more editing ability, and 3 is a full admin.
Then when they log in, store their level in a global variable or the tempvars. For each menu then that comes up you need to check the user level for each item to be displayed or clicked.
I have done much more complex ones than this using tags and such, but this is the easiest way.

Just use the file location on your network as the location instead of a website and it will work all the same.
