@@apocalypse12345 No, that makes no difference 😊 It's not the weed (or amount of weed) that's relevant, it's the anxiety / panic attack that triggered it. Read this carefully: www.dpmanual.com/articles/what-causes-depersonalization-disorder/
Shaun you’re such a kind soul. Dp was nearly 20 years ago for you, and you’re still out here helping those who are hurting ❤ this is a genius video idea. I’m doing worlds better. Can’t wait to be on here one day!
You’re out here pushing out so much amazing content that is actually unlike anything else out there! I’m obviously fully recovered, but it always makes me happy to see these new videos that will be so extremely helpful for the whole world!
It started when I was 11, back in the '90s. Surely, there was no one who understood me. Even doctors doubted my honesty! It was pretty traumatizing for a young person and took a toll on my studies and my life as a preteen and a teen. Thank you Shaun for shedding the light on this condition and its healing!
It's common to have had that experience before DPDR became more widely known ❤️ www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-disorder-mystery-condition/ I'm sorry it took you so long to find answers but very glad that the videos have been helpful 😊
Thank you for this. It's been a year and a half since this began for me at which time (last May) my beloved cat was diagnosed with a terminal illness so early into his life. I did everything I could to give him the best quality of life during the decline and ultimately.. I had to put him to sleep. It was crippling. I did not know the mind could turn that way... Not dealing with the stress and emotions of his loss caused me to go into a real serious episode of Dpdr unbeknownst to me... The panic attacks were every hour.. I couldn't work for 8 weeks, the lowest point about 8 days where I didn't eat or sleep or drink water. I was ready to end my life. Finding these videos and doing CBT and fighting out of the negative thought loop felt like the hardest thing I ever had to do. I can say now that I'm slowly coming back to reality.. My emotions are regulated again, I cry a lot about losing my cat Jack.. So many things have happened and it really is a blessing when you make it through. Stay strong everyone.
Thanks to Connor, I'm 90% healed. I lived this to the fullest. It happened to me 2-3 times in my life. I experienced every symptom. JUST A SYMPTOM OF ANXIETY! USE VITAMINS! DO SPORT! SLEEP WELL ! PRAY ! WATCH THIS MAN! DANCE 😄 (You can see me in the old comments, I was always asking questions.)

Thank you, i have struggled off and on with DP/DR for a year now due to a severe panic attack. Now, everytime i have a panic or anxiety attack i have Derealization, its so scary. I feel emotionaless to everything and everyone. Sometimes i look at loved ones and think "why do they look that way?" "Have they always looked that way?" "What if i dont recognize them?" "Who are they?" Etc. i have severe OCD as well and health anxiety, sometimes im scared im slipping into psychosis because i feel so crazy. Your videos have helped a lot, thank you and praise Jesus's name for healthy recovery for everyone. ❤
Hey, thanks for your comment and I'm glad to hear the videos have been helpful ❤😊 I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. The National Institute on Mental Illness estimates that up to 75% of people experience at least one depersonalization / derealization episode in their lives. It's part of your brain's natural defence mechanism and usually it only lasts a few seconds or minutes at a time. It's only when it's focused on as a separate problem (feeling like you're going crazy / in a dream etc) that it can turn into a feedback loop with the anxiety that caused it in the first place. But no matter what caused it or how long you've had it, you can always switch it off completely by stopping that anxious feedback loop. Make sure to carefully read through all the articles and info on my website at www.dpmanual.com and my book The Depersonalization Manual. And if you would like to speak to a medical professional please don't hesitate to do so. I would recommend finding an anxiety specialist if possible as they will likely be more familiar with DPDR 👍

I know they can be frustrating and frightening but they are also temporary and harmless and will fade away and stop as your recovery continues 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-fears-and-anxious-thoughts/
Is it apart of DPDR to be asking yourself questions like “how am I talking” how am I moving, this is something that comes a long every now and then and it can make things difficult, it’s like I don’t trust myself or I’m worried that my conscious mind doesn’t have control over it, it’s interesting but scary sometimes.

I have had dpdr 3 times in my life this the 4th but this is so intense i don't know why. For the ones i had before i dint know its called dpdr so i just suffered and it disappeared. Never worried me like this i don't know why i feel so bad with this one. I feel like am just shell
You confronted this with evidence that this is totally psychosomatic. And no brain has been damaged by using marijuana or other drugs, and I'm completely okay. And everyone can be depersonalized. In response to any type of dramatic reaction, it may be a changing mood in which you find it hard to integrate and understand this can cause depression or just the personal administration as well, which means. When I first had the depression reaction to something.I had ADP before I smoke.Weed and this had no effect so might be peace as a result of my bad experiences with things innocent and a collection of traumatic experiences and an unpleasant encounters in social situations and this build up in subconscious mind can really have an impact
hello, i've been following your channel for a few years now but only recently my dpdr seems to have gotten worse (feeling more dissociated from reality, all my previous symptoms only worse) due to having an eating disorder and the stresses of being in an inpatient unit. I've had dpdr for over 4 years, non-stop. every second of every day i feel disconnected and like i'm living in a movie, unable to recognise people and looking at animals like they are aliens. I couldn't even picture myself even though I see myself daily. I've just been stressing that maybe what I have is not dpdr, or one of the worst cases of it at least. because everything i've read about people's experiences are that they have a period of time in a dpdr state (a few minutes to a few weeks) then they return to normal until the dpdr is triggered again. i just feel really lost with the fact i can't even remember what life used to feel like because i haven't had a second out of it since 2020. any help would be appreciated :)

hey shaun, tomorrow i have to do a sedation in the hospital for a small surgery and i am quite worried because i think that i will be high after and feel the same feeling that i had when i got DP two years ago, do you have any suggestion? i also don’t know if it will be the same feeling of smoking weed
Hi Michele, don't worry - Even though they might at times feel experientially similar, medical sedation is completely different from the anxiety-based feelings of DPDR. Good luck with the surgery 😊❤
I feel like im not really depersonalized, but I feel really weird still. Like, im kinda coming out of depersonalization, but something just seems off, I can't explain the feeling.
Hi Trevor, remember that anxiety is a spectrum of symptoms, and DPDR is just one of them. So on your path to recovery you may feel less of one and more of another, that's perfectly normal 😊 www.dpmanual.com/articles/what-does-depersonalization-recovery-feel-like/
Hi Shaun! Hmm sometime i feel so calm and relax and i start to think why i still have dp/dr?! Sometimes i feel more anxious and with mood swings but this year i feel better than last year but is normal to be such a slow process to overcome 🤷🏻♀️
Thanks for your comment! 😊 So DPDR is an anxiety-based condition and cannot exist without anxiety. Even though you may think you are completely calm, you are still feeling anxious. Maybe you're not anxious relative to having a full-blown panic attack, but your baseline level of anxiety has been raised, and so even though you may not realise it, what you consider to be calm now is not what 'calm' is to someone without an anxiety condition. Think of it like this: If you weren't feeling any anxiety, you wouldn't even be checking in to see if you felt DPDR. But don't worry -- all of the symptoms will fade away and stop completely as your recovery continues. 😊 Read this carefully: www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-without-anxiety/
Shaun, I just want to make sure once and for all because I keep thinking again and again that I have something else than DP and DR. Had a panic attack January 15th. January 22nd DPDR hits me very hard. Since then, it was veeery gradual healing. But now, a week ago or so, it got worse again. Symptoms in the beginning were very intense and awful: light sensitivity, weird vision, feeling disconnected a lot, no appetite etc. But for past few months, only floaters and tinnitus are left. And DPDR hits very slightly during the day. Few hours before bed I feel completely fine. Except this last week is so awful. I lost hope again, cannot enjoy day to day things.. Mind just shuts down, I cannot think forwards or backwards. Should I do health exams again just to be sure or better keep living and avoiding DPDR thoughts? Should I go to psychologist maybe? Thanks.
Hi Daumele! 😊 Don’t worry, from what you've described that all sounds like a very typical case of DPDR to me. Shaun, I have a question and I would like you to answer it. How do you distinguish DPDR from obsessive compulsive disorder? Do you think DPDR can evolve into OCD? Since my DPDR began I have noticed this obsessive side, fixed ideas, intrusive thoughts, I am afraid that my depersonalization is becoming something worse, lately I have felt intense fear, physical symptoms like "ringing" in the ear when I am very anxious, I wonder if I'm crossing some line of no return, as if I'll never go back to normal or literally escape reality, help me.

Hello Shaun, I will try to explain as best as I can with my limited English. I have been experiencing DPDR for about a year now, and what seems to be triggering it is existential OCD. To overcome this, as you recommended in your videos, whenever I have an unwanted thought, I try to focus on something else. I also follow some basic techniques. Besides these, I have a trauma from my childhood, and they say that this trauma might be affecting my DPDR and that addressing this trauma might help me heal. However, my only concerns right now are my existential OCD, and I think this is why it persists. Do you think this could be related to the trauma?

So I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. You can and will recover, 100%.
I felt 4 months in that my life was over but I’m now a year in, it took me a good 6 months to start to feel better but I am genuinely so much better now even though I’m not fully recovered. Changing my environment helped, I sold my car and got a different one, I moved my whole bedroom around changed my bedsheets, the things in my room, the lighting, everything. Might seem ridiculous , but it really helped me.you will get better. I promise
Yes, experiences like that are super common with DPDR. I know they can be scary but they will fade away and stop as you recover 😊 www.dpmanual.com/about/do-i-have-depersonalization-disorder/

How did you recover. I am really struggling
Did medication work for you
It started when I was 11, back in the '90s. Surely, there was no one who understood me. Even doctors doubted my honesty! It was pretty traumatizing for a young person and took a toll on my studies and my life as a preteen and a teen. Thank you Shaun for shedding the light on this condition and its healing!
It's common to have had that experience before DPDR became more widely known ❤️ www.dpmanual.com/articles/depersonalization-disorder-mystery-condition/

Thanks for your comment Adam ❤ I'm very sorry to hear about your cat but glad to hear that you're making progress. Keep up the good work! ❤

I know it can be frightening but remember that it's just your body and brain's natural response to stress and anxiety. It's not permanent and it can't hurt you.

Sir my depersonalisation was almost at the end from last 2-3 weeks I was feeling great and I was so happy it was ending no thoughts and no symptoms it was ending but two days back ago I was in car at back seat and similar thing happened to me which caused depersonalisation ( it was from a bad weed experience in car I thought I was dying and everything is in loops ) and I felt the same scene like time was slowing down and I'm dying I panicked but somehow managed to distract myself and reached home but from two days back ago it has come again and it is more terrifying now it is more difficult than the starting I'm feeling the same scene every 30 mins and I'm getting weird thoughts of dying and my body feels so bad 24/7 please tell me what should I do I'm feeling so depressed because it was almost at the end I was so happy but idk why it came back and now it's more difficult :( Please help me

They say that I cannot heal unless I address my trauma. Is this true?
This question was actually answered in your video, thank you!"
Glad it was helpful! ❤️😊

Hi Alejandro, thanks for your comment 😊 Remember that ultimately, DPDR is just a symptom of anxiety so when the symptoms vary, it's just your anxiety levels going up and down, and certain situations / environments can change them. Shaun I really need your help. I have this BAD for the last 4 months. Started at a panic attack at a festival after weed / mdma. Can you please contact me
Hey Jared, thanks for your comment and I'm sorry to hear you've been having a difficult time. So I know DPDR can be scary but just remember that it’s a natural reaction to stress and anxiety, and people experience it all the time. You can and will recover, 100%.
I promise
