@boahx does that mean the turbo in the GTR isnt stock either? stock meaning any vehicle coming off the show room floor, whether it has S/C or T/C on the engine is still comsidered as stock. if you buy the car and start adding these items to the car, then the car becomes modified.
What you may not understand is that if a prototype or development platform has achieved a 7:18 during internal testing, there are still a few requirements unmet. During the press conference where that video was recorded, Chief Engineer Kazutoshi Mizuno spoke of 7:18 during internal testing, but also stated 7:18 should not be included in any record, nor does Nissan even claim such a record. He stated that they hope to do even better during an official attempt with the actual production model.
Another thing to keep in mind though, the GTR seats 4, has a usable trunk, a much higher degree of fit and finish, and can be driven in winter, it can actually be used as a daily driver, that said the corvette will be more fun on the track thanks to it's rear wheel drive, it sounds better, and is better looking. It's all a matter of opinion as to which one is better.
@runnerbaba the Covette wasnt meant to be 2+2 sports car, GM tried to do it many years before the GTR was even thought up. and if you want to compare prices, the base Z06 is still cheaper then the GTR's base price. GM also wanted to put in a TT V-6, but many Covette enthuasist insisted it stay a V-8. Front Mid mounted engine with RWD. the GTR uses AWD to optmize it grip. indeed they are both great cars.
Watch it again, it shows clear the time of the lap, btw video of the GTR is still obviously not released for public, but it exists, as you may see that info on many many blogs, pages, magazines, car shows, even on wiki. If it doesn't exist on the web, it doesn't mean that it doesn't exists at all.
@TiconderogaX Yes, Both of them have advantages and disadvantages. The GT-R has a AWD System handled by one of the best computer managements, disadvantages are that it is too heavy and has not the same power as the ZR1 or the GT2 RS. The ZR1 has more BHP and torque than the GT-R, it is much lighter, but it has a Old school transmission and a RWD system.
Hello sopitabo. He is Mr. Kazutoshi Mizuno, chief product specialist. He started GT-R project. At first, Nissan management did not approve the project but Mr. Carlos Ghosn, CEO, approved after he did test drive of GT-R prototype. (this story is no told in this video.) Now, Mr. Mizuno says that he is thinking about how GT-R can provide "value" to customer and how GT-R evolve year by year.
Mustang GT500 uses Brembo breaks. Front calipers. Some American family cars also use the double clutch gearbox. It's just a matter of preference that most who drive a fast car want to drive a manual. Even Clarkson occasionally admits he prefers them. As far as the suspension thing goes, I have to agree. It has been said that it was a cost saving measure as you said, but also they aren't often needed on our roads, that tend to be wider and straighter with a lower speed limits. Hence drag.
There is no video because there was no lap with a production car. As the graphs are passing by, the lead engineer explains how "0.5 seconds could be saved here" and "there was too much braking here, if perfect it would result in another X.X second drop in the time", stating that the best theoretical lap time for the model being tested at the time would be a 7:18. Not to mention that the GTR has been developed at Nurburgring for over 9 years now, then the Corvette beat their time in only 3 days.
And how much are these packages for the LFA? I'd like to see a comparable performance in an all out race like the 24 Hours of Nurburgring. In the 2011 race, Nissan fielded a special car - the Nissan GTR Club Sport Edition (a showroom car that consumers can buy, but it's already prepped for track day use) that was modified to professional racing standards (i.e. they did not use the GT1 or GT500 which are out-and-out race cars built from the ground up). How did it fare? It won its class (SP8).
@TiconderogaX While both of them have disadvantages, Porsche doesnt have any. its in the middle of the GT-R and ZR1, the ZR1 having 638HP 7L, GT2 RS with 620HP 3.6L and the GT-R with 530HP 3.8. It is the lighter of the Three, having 3000pounds of weight(aproximate), while the ZR1 has 3200+aprox and the GT-R 3800+ it has a Boxer/Flat engine wich gives even more stavility.
The ACR-x is a beast. I think the reason people talk about the GTR most is that it's a very practical car, the ACR is not a nice daily driver. The appeal of the GTR is how it can do so much, by that I mean a bit of everything, and it does them all so well. There are many reason why many people who have lambo's, ferrari's and all kinds of supercars often have a GTR sat next to them. Although since the price bumped up it has lost some of its allure to some people.
it is the most efficient for the gtr; the car is mainly computer controlled, double clutch means super fast auto shifts, "race mode", "launch control", instant telemetry etc.
they were the stock tires that are available out of the showroom floor stock and the safety equipment used is used by all manufacturers if they want to be able to run.that shit makes the cars heavier, not lighter.BOTH STOCK CARS
Having said that, there are aftermarket parts to fix that as i mentioned earlier and if you can install those yourself like me,then the cost is minimal,But most are going to run into a labour bill that will make it cost prohibitive
There is no official manufacturer's statement. If you check Nissan's press releases you will find no announcement of any such record. That video is merely a promotional video made for the 2013 launch of the updated GT-R. Not only is there no on board video of a GTR doing such a record, Nissan themselves also make no such claim.
@miroslav1o1 funny thing is he is an Engineer that helped develop the zr1 he is just an ordinary driver not a professional by any means. so there go's that theory
@mikennamorato The Z06 does 7's with a full leather interior , air conditioning , heated seats , and a killer stereo , and navigation ? why would you want to drive a datsun when you can drive a Corvette anyways ?
@4everlakers24 V8 s/c does the ZR-1 come stock supercharged? Big difference from stock & not stock. If the s/c is an add on doesn't really count for me a stock race...
gtr is a 3.9 liter v6 as standard kicks out between 497 and 506 bhp , each car is slightly different in engine power as they are all hand built (engine wise ) this is also the hardest cornering car in the world .
I've been on both the GT-R and the ZR1 and I will only say this. The ZR1 body is the same as Touring series, or GT500 series carbon fiber body. The back side especially is flexible like a plastic board, and you can bend it all the way inside by merely pushing it with one hand. I don't know if I'd feel safe driving a ZR1. The carbon fiber body is just ridiculous. Sure the ZR1 is like 500 pounds lighter than the GT-R, but at least I don't feel like I'm riding inside a water bottle.
would you want to exit the highway on the right side, then make a little smooth turn to the left like the shape of a U with a right hand drive car? That seems to be strange to seat far away from the centre of the turning circle.
@TiconderogaX Well the Vette has Le Mans designed MPSC ZP semi slick tires! None stock racing Sparco seats, none stock 12" steering wheel, pre production car... What did the GTR do? Oh yeah damp track on 200 AA rated all weather tires and all stock for production GTR...
@mugengaia You can find a place on almost any newer car where if you push on it it will flex. They just don't make these kind of car bodies out of metal anymore. Besides, a car's frame has more to do with your survivability in a crash than the body, which is little more than a skin in alot of cars like these.
Don't be haters. Nissan GT-R is a piece of engineering. So is the ZR1. I would love to have one of them. They are both at the top and the deciding element is the brand and preferences of the driver. The GT-R is noobproof. ZR1 needs a good driver. That is my opinion.
just fyi the Z06 on the exact same Michelin Sport PS2 skins has 1.13 lateral G where the GTR remains at 0.98, the Z06 still holds better official times at Nurburgring, Willow Springs, Laguna Seca etc, on the exact same skins as a GTR.
Although I do appreciate what your saying, the thing is... not many cars can one go out and buy and use to the max frequently, the GTR gives you the confidence to want to do so... but any car will break if you screw it, daily. These features are good, for when your at the track, and aware your being heavy on the car. But for those people who use it at the traffic lights every day.... well, they reap what they sow.
How would it smoke a GTR? Off the line it wont get any traction and its a manual. Dual clutch shift time .05 seconds. Manual shift time .6 seconds. Now combine the wheelspin and the shift time.
@TiconderogaX Toshio Suzuki is 56 years old! Mero is in his 30's! Age (i.e. Michael Schumacher) affects your driving! So here we have a grandad 56 years old racing a car vs a pro 30+ Nurburgring driver (testing on the ring since 2003)... So yes there will be a difference in driving!
Little did most people know that Nissan never used a totally factory car of the showroom to run Nurburgring. Manufacturers like Chev, Porsche and other euro companies all use production models straight off the showroom with factory tyres n such. Thats why Porsche asked Nissan to do another official lap on Nur by using a GTR from a dealership. Nissan refused doing so....Porsche says they can use any production 911 turbo to run Nur to match the official lap time they claimed in the 911 turbo.
You don't know this explains on this video. He said, this car is not special edition GT-R,It s just for normal model GT-R35. He said,If we put special tires and special tuning on this GT-R,It would get faster time, but we think it s nothing. We just make sure for time of normal GT-R which are bought by lots of people. So,those tires is normal.no tuning. It can be driven even on snow and city. in short,it s daily mode. the setting is not for time attack. If the setting is changed for racing, you know?
High Fructose Corn Syrup, I believe, is made from the stalks leaves and cobs of the corn plant. It's high tech, but it's cheap and made by the barrel. It's not fit for human consumption, but if it ferments it could be turned to alcohol, and refined into fuel. Brazil did it with sugar cane, and their own domestic oil supplies. America can to.
good point.. pushrods are old and tend to break at high rpm. ohc and dual over head cams are the way of the future (high rpm anyways) but really its all about flow...
The Viper ACR is an AWESOME car, but I'm not sure it's an even comparison to either the ZR1 or GT-R. Full aero kit, fully adjustable suspension etc... Don't get me wrong, like I said the ACR is awesome. It's just that wile they are "technically" a production car, in the truest sense they are not. You don't see them driving on the road very often, if at all, however I see ZR1s and GT-Rs almost daily.
@dave777blaster But they don't need turbos, AWD, dual clutch transmissions, an absurd amount of numbing driver assist, or a personal garage at this track. Yet without any of that, they still post a faster lap.
7:24.5 is a great time for a production car, but considering its packed with a computer to control every little thing the car does, plus its 4wd plus is seq. padel shift, i would rather have a zr1 with more power, rear wheel drive, 6 speed manual abs the only electronically controlled device and all that and its only 2secs slower. The gtr is for people who cant drive, the zr1 is for people who love to drive. just my input correct me if im wrong.
@dave777blaster Why bother with 550HP 6 cylinders when GM is already making a 638HP compact pushrod V8 that probably weighs as much, possibly less with all the ducting, intercooler, etc., as a turbocharged 6 cylinder? Doesn't make sense.
I don't think GM said they invented magnetic ride control specifically, more that they came up with their own version that Ferrari wanted to use, which I think GM obliged with. I rather wish Ford would come out with an AWD sports car to compete. There's the Ford GT but they don't continuously produce it.
@sw1000xg Starting with a record 7.32, all records of GT-R were placed in closed conditions. Even the participation of journalists from Best Motoring was closed and was done without tech inspection. According to the regulations, these records are not valid. Translated by Google.
@TiconderogaX This is a snippit of the interview "VM: Is it true that each manufacturer, including General Motors, records and validates its own lap times at the Nürburgring, and that there is not a track lap-timing system governed by the track’s officials? Juechter: Yes. This is not a policed activity. There is no governing body that controls the establishment of Nürburgring times." It's fact...
You mean the class that has quite a lot of retirements? (all the 3 Golf V's, which mind you were purpose built out-and-out race cars, unlike the GTR, retired; 1 crashed while the other 2 had mechanical problems). And consider that this was the VERY FIRST TIME the GTR raced in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring.
Go to the link I mentioned and you will hear them say that the car was completely stock and even the tires (Michelin Sport Cup) are the standard production street tires.
638-hp/205-mph To answer, YES THE SC IS A STOCK COMPONENT.... ZR1 is powered by a 6.2 Liter LS9 aluminum block V8 equipped with a four-lobe Eaton® Twin Vortices Series™ supercharger with intercooler, and is handcrafted by our own skilled craftsmen at the GM Performance Build Center in Wixom, Michigan6. It delivers an SAE-certified 638 horsepower at 6500 rpm and 604 lb.-ft. of torque at 3800 rpm.
The corvette use semi slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup with 80AA vs 200AA run flat tire on the GTR... Those tires are 1sec faster per 1min30sec lap time of any track... Big difference
Hi. ZR1 tires are wider than GT-R35 and Engine is bigger than GT-R35 If GT-R35 tires are the same size of ZR1. Do you think GT-R35 with wide tires is faster than GT-R35? I could know this GT-R35 is very fast.
Only if the LFA is upgraded with the "Nurburgring Package" which includes lots of modifications like a Rollcage. The Stock LFA was much slower. 7:38 as tested by Horst Von Saurma who also took the (2011) GTR around the 'ring at 7:34.
You're not watching the entire video, view from 8:20 forward, the overview of the proposed 7:19 is a computer simulated combination of the best recorded times for each section after implementation of the best recorded sections from May 14th. This debate as well as any claims to GTR superiority are nothing more than conjecture until there is video confirmation of an entire lap performed by the production vehicle, at which time the facts would simply change in favor of the GTR.
ZR1 was not stock using Sparco EVO 1 racing seats to set a time look it up at vette magazine ZR1 nurburgring... And the original time used racing seats that too was not stock and had a bad timer that lost 1.1 seconds on it's timer Garage 419 it and watch the vid if you don't believe me!
@TiconderogaX Almost everything you said is true, if you can read my first comment, i said that the ZR1 used DOT Slick Tyres, read again, Dot Slick tyres, those tyres are the nearest road legal tyre to the Racing Slick tyres. i know they are factory stock, but again, if they used the Base car and not the one with every posible performance package it will be a fair match.
I have to use something someone said to bash the corvette to make its case. The gtr is using the most advanced car tech just to keep up with corvettes outdated technology. Turbo vs s/c as an example. Corvette still uses push rods. Last I heard corvette was even using a transverse leaf spring.
love dis. thanks for the upload. going to race there soon too with a 280 hp car, i will go slower than this crazy fool in the vid, but it will be much fun. there is a lot work behind that driving. i bet this driver been to this particular track for the first time but he drives it perfectly. good job
@mugengaia I'm pretty sure if you crashed a ZR1 at 150mph, and a GTR at 150mph, your going to come out fucked up either way. But regardless, the Corvette is actually a very safe vehicle. It has a hydroformed frame, amazing brakes, can maneuver great, isn't prone to rolling over, etc. In fact, my friend had a 06 GTO and his insurance went down when he got his new Corvette, due to better safety ratings it received. The whole "Plastic Coffin" is a huge misconception.
@iPROFITDON then why is it a blown 6.9 engine in the vette ? GM can't compete they rely on 2x engine size with a super charger when GM can produce reliable 6cyl 550 hp cars with the level of tech in the GTR i'll sing their praises too.
Unfotunetly no full vid of the 2014 Nissan GT-R doing the lap time of 7.18.6 So this is only a lap record said by the guys from Nissan. You can find this by this vid ( Nissan GT-R 2014 model year test driving report.) 6.13 minutes in. It would be good if they make a video doing the lap so things can be cleared up.
@TiconderogaX Actually racing semi slicks tires helps ALOT! The car is no more improved and that's a fact! New rims are nothing new! PTM wont affect it that much on the Nurb! And aero? All they did was add a little tiny spoiler on the boot... Other than that it's all the tires! So on Ps2 tires it comes with 7:25 maybe!
have you ever heard of the nurburgring? if so then you'd know that on the end straight cars can reach up to 200 mph and the vette flys right by at 130mph. 4tenths isnt much for the vette so stop scrutinizing your favourite car.
Exactly! The Supra is a drag strip monster, but on a real track, like the the Nordschleife it takes alot more than just shear horsepower to set any records!
@boahx does that mean the turbo in the GTR isnt stock either? stock meaning any vehicle coming off the show room floor, whether it has S/C or T/C on the engine is still comsidered as stock. if you buy the car and start adding these items to the car, then the car becomes modified.

@TiconderogaX yes they did my friend, you can read in any nurburgring lap records website that Porsche and Chevrolet used Dot Slick tyres.
@IN4RIDE The exact price of the ZR1 is of 157.048,00€ and the GT-R is about 100.000€, both without any extra

You do realise the Radical SR8LM is a production car right? That's why it is on the list.. (yes it can be used on the road..not just track(s))

Phewww.. Hats down to Nissan! A great lap for a reasonably priced, 4-seater, 1700kg car, with just 530hp under the bonnet...
those are street tires...they are probably the highest level of grip for street tires before semi-/slicks
they run endurance racing with the gtr same engine butt the car is lighted so i think it will hold a test day at the nurburgring
All that awesome engineering, and it still cant beat a ZR1. God bless 'Murica.
Truly a masterful display of driving skill
No to mention the heated front seats. I hate to think how much they weigh in at.
@IN4RIDE usa anywhere from 150,000 to 200,000 usd depending on availability
not to mention the semi wet conditions for the GTR and this is not the 545 hp gtr its only the 530hp verion on stock GTR tires
the Corvette Zr1 is OHV,has a normal gearbox,RWD,has a double-wishbone suspension...and his time was 7:19.63...
@TiconderogaX This is a snippit of the interview
"VM: Is it true that each manufacturer, including General Motors, records and validates its own lap times at the Nürburgring, and that there is not a track lap-timing system governed by the track’s officials?
Juechter: Yes. This is not a policed activity. There is no governing body that controls the establishment of Nürburgring times."
It's fact...
actually they already did it... 1 record was set at 7:16 for the 2013 GTR...(i think so) plus the GTR has 4 seats and its way heavier
@evsonjunior 7:19 on racing semi slick wheels, none stock racing sparco seats, and using a pre production car...
Not attacking, just basing off of the fact that you use the metric system for distances rather than miles.
Start @3:25; Finish @10:50
Is it normal to start at the end of that blue wall (old pit) and finish at it's start?
do you know that they just said the 2014 was the first actual time they ran 7:18 which still has no video to show for it
plus the ZR1 did their lap on RACE tires while the GTR did it on STREET tires
@SerenityBeast yes but i bet the gtr driver went home without a problem, but the zr1 driver left half of the car on the track as it fell appart
Hightech346, the Viper and the Corvette are only faster because of the DOT competition tires. The current GT-R clocked 7:21 on street tires.
Well, the finish line at 10:52 is magically moved back from the start line at 3:26...
That's at least a good 2 seconds difference in that pit stretch.
Roll cage add a lot of frame rigidity... Lateral rigidity is improved a lot with a roll cage.
The corvette use semi slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup with 80AA vs 200AA run flat tire on the GTR... Those tires are 1sec faster per 1min30sec lap time of any track... Big difference
Hi.
ZR1 tires are wider than GT-R35 and Engine is bigger than GT-R35
If GT-R35 tires are the same size of ZR1.
Do you think GT-R35 with wide tires is faster than GT-R35?
I could know this GT-R35 is very fast.
Altigamr where do you live? I'll pay you a visit when I get stateside bro.
@177SCmaro because the gtr is already pushing 2000 hp on the streets and the vette blows up with 800 hp
What year was that Zr-1 also does it come stock supercharged?
Why no rev and speed readout? If the Ring didn't have such suspension-shattering kerbs I bet the GT-R would have gone at least 30 seconds faster.
true! depends which cars!
i think you'll find sporty rally cars like evo or wrx/GTR awd systems are different from 4 x 4. 4x4 actually hurts turning.
Last I heard corvette was even using a transverse leaf spring.
love dis. thanks for the upload. going to race there soon too with a 280 hp car, i will go slower than this crazy fool in the vid, but it will be much fun.
there is a lot work behind that driving. i bet this driver been to this particular track for the first time but he drives it perfectly. good job
Who was driving? Sabrina Schmidt?
@IN4RIDE imported tax...a camry cost 60k in some countries because of tax tariffs...
Why compare GT-R to Z06 and ZR1? GT-R has a 3.7L DOHC engine, the corvettes have large OHV engines.
@iPROFITDON then why is it a blown 6.9 engine in the vette ?
GM can't compete they rely on 2x engine size with a super charger
when GM can produce reliable 6cyl 550 hp cars with the level of tech in the GTR i'll sing their praises too.
1 sec also means the driver just made some sharper tighter turns it says nothing about the car but its still crazy that a v6 can compete with a v8
have you ever heard of the nurburgring? if so then you'd know that on the end straight cars can reach up to 200 mph and the vette flys right by at 130mph. 4tenths isnt much for the vette so stop scrutinizing your favourite car.
Pushing to the limit! The Nordschleife was & is the most demanding and wonderful circuit in the world.
and if i can recall right the gtr was faster than the corvette on top gear using the same driver
Exactly! The Supra is a drag strip monster, but on a real track, like the the Nordschleife it takes alot more than just shear horsepower to set any records!
