Massive Train Fire Causes Passenger to Jump from Window

- A terrifying fire broke out on a Boston train going over a bridge. Flames and smoke poured from the train with 200 riders during the morning rush hour. To escape, passengers smashed the windows and walked along the tracks. One woman jumped into the Mystic River to escape the flames. She was later rescued by crews and brought to safety. The blaze apparently started after a piece of metal from the train dislodged, making contact with the electrified third rail.
I think i woulda jumped too. Being that close to fire is no joke. My prayers go out to all involved in this🙏🏻

One of the passengers didn’t just jump out of the train window, but she jumped OFF THE BRIDGE and into the Mystic River. She refused help from a fire department boat and swam ashore where she apparently hailed a taxi.

I can't believe that the MBTA is getting this bad. I rode both the MBTA and Orange line for 15 years. Sure they would break down and occasionally the Green Line would hit something, but the stuff they have been going through lately surpasses any of that. What the passengers had to do is so dangerous too because they either have to cross those third rails for the opposing T train, or jump into the Mystic. What's next, the Red Line flying off the Longfellow into the Charles?!

And Texas, being as large of a state as it is, with all the major cities not too close, you would assume we would've started creating a good public transport system from a long time ago....but I'm pretty sure the ones who were in charge of such a system were paid by the oil companies to basically create pointless highways, when the best way to curb traffic and emissions is a good public transport system

That looks to me like an electrical fire. If you notice on the video of the train from overhead, there was quite a large electrical arc underneath the train, as the smoke began to come from the front. It wouldn't surprise me if there'd been a short somewhere and that had triggered the fire.
They didn’t mention the woman who jumped INTO the Mystic River…and then when the cops came she refused to get out?
I've read 3 different accounts of this. The description said she was rescued by first responders. Someone else said she refused the fire boat, swam to shore and called a cab so there does seem to be a question about that. Idk where any of that info came from.

This happened to me once. Green line fire. We evacuated up under the circus a Gov ctr.
Once we finally made it through the locked gate in the ground I laid down. I couldn’t breathe at all. I sat up like 20 mins later and walked down to the hospital. Called my school and told them I wasn’t going to make mid terms. I was in a train fire and inhaled mad smoke.
They said we saw that and the news said no one was injured. I’m like no emts came to the scene. What do you think I’m lying?

When the engineers make up these trains and these roots don't they think about stuff like "if a metal object falls and touches the electrified 3rd rail what could happen" or" if you're going over a bridge and there's a fire that starts how did the people jump to safety if the fires on the side that they can't escape from" doesn't all this only make sense?? to me "it's common sense" that I would think through all these what's it called troubleshooting
Do you mean the engineers that design the train or the engineers driving the train? Either way they dont anticipate pieces of metal falling off anymore than you drive through a green light and anticipate someone running a red light and smashing into you. The fault isn't with the design or the conductor. Unfortunately stuff happens.
People and their interpretation of losing their life cracks me up. I guess if you've never really had a true close to end of life experience, something like this might freak you out. People like me, I would be sitting there waiting for people to finish killing each other to get off the train. Then I would just strolll on out.

Tips to make sure you make it out alive. Move cars, Always go to the front and move to another car. If there's a emergency pull, PULL IT! This is a pull system that disengages the power and engages the emergency brakes. IT IS A FEDERAL OFFENSE TO PULL THIS WHEN THERES NO REAL EMERGENCY. Then you will break out a window or exit via the doors via a pull system. This system is located over or next to the door. This is to open the door manually.
