HARRY! I just finished watching. Dude, when you showed all of the iterations of Somsnosa’s theme and all the implementations of it…I cried my fucking eyes out. My daughter was consoling me because she thought I was sad. Tears of joy, my friend. People are picking up what I’m putting down! People are paying attention and they have YOU to help them understand these concepts and intentions. Truly, you have my thanks and you will always have my support. You should be so proud of this video and all videos that came before I know I am.
I thought the musical analysis would be outside my comfort zone, but it's really fun to do - especially with the songs you create, that are full of depth and hidden meaning. Motif analysis is just as interesting as the lyrical analysis I did a while ago. I'm glad I can reveal some of the deeper lore that might not be instantly apparent to some people. Hearing that Wayne Prime has been pulled away from some higher being and hearing that anyone can take the position of Dracula, maybe that is the case for Wayne Prime now, that his disappearance is him now filling in the spot for Dracula.
If that is the case and he can pull the strings, what reasoning would he have to hurt his fellow squad members, because of his "absence" the Wayne Variants became these Wayne mutations (which could also imply the ten years that happen over the span of Absent Moon, Old Wayne dies). Maybe it is the wish of all moon related beings to rule over the Hylics World.
I think Odozier can not use the afterlife healing. It is heavily implied only Wayne and people who Wayne takes with that can regenerate. That is why Pongorma dies permanently in Absent Moon. He is no longer with Wayne
From what it sounds like, Mason's trying to go all in on the SNES RPG inspiration with Hylics 3 with how the structure of the world and party is supposed to be. Mason even accidentally got his own version of the Dragon Quest Slime with Tyro.
Just a few things that came to my mind: I am surprised that there will be "retcons" to the cone cultists, as basically, we know only three things about them: they are called cone cultists, at least during H1 they lived on that one mountain, and they are willing to attack Wayne and the crew. Since on the stream, they were called cone cultists as well, this probably won't change, the change of their location could be explained by them just moving somewhere else, so unlikely this would be retconned, so we are left with their aggression towards our crew? Will they be retconned to be Wayne sympathizers or something? I mean it could be just a case of a misused word, and Mason and Chuck meant that the lore would be simply expanded, as the word "retcon" seems weird in this case. But who knows? One thing that always made me doubt that the old Wayne is H1 Wayne, was that the rest of the crew didn't age significantly, so why was Wayne an old grandpa now? But now that this is confirmed, this implies that waynes have an extremely short lifespan, so they age rapidly, which is quite sad. I bet that Odozeir's child has a bit of Gibby's DNA mixed in since she appears to have peach-color skin and green hair, and we know that Gibby-like creatures are going to appear, probably conjured by Odo himself. Also in Promethean Lament he tells her to follow her heart, but also seems to be grooming her to accomplish a goal she was created to fulfill with the "unleash, attack, destroy" part. So it's a reasonable assumption that part of her character arc will be about her trying to navigate who she wants to be vs. what she was created to be. So the added tension of being a sort of Gibby's progeny, and the figurative big shoes she has to fill, will nicely fit to this narrative. Just a speculation, but she kind of has his color scheme. Maybe Gibby will turn himself into the gibbydog to avoid paying child support? lol. My guess of where Wayne disappeared into is the afterlife since it seems like the most disconnected place, and kind of symbolic, a space where a tired soul can find the final rest it desires. Also, it could explain why Pongorma will not return to life after dying, if he realized that Wayne is somewhere out there in the afterlife, he would just continue his search there. But I recall that on the stream they said something like "something happened to the afterlife", so it could be something outside the will of the characters to come back or not, but I don't remember how exactly it went, and finding it within 3hour stream is like searching for a needle in a haystack, so this is just a side note. English is not my first language, so it's probably written weirdly.
Mason did use the word "retcon" in the stream, but it's possible he just meant he plans to expand on their lore. A personal headcanon of mine is that a Wayne's age 'resets' when they die / go to the Afterlife. The reason old Wayne got old is because he didn't go to the afterlife for a very long time and is now weak. We know the terrestrail juices of the afterlife have some sort of restorative properties, as that's how Gibby rebuilt his body in Hylics 2. Oooh, I never considered that but that totally makes sense. I'd expect blue skin if they were fully Odozier DNA. I can totally invision the endgame of Hylics 3 requiring you to venture into the Afterlife to locate Wayne's lair and take him down. (your English is very good! I had no problem understanding.)
I think "retcon" is just referring to the cultist's much more radical design changes compared to the other enemies which look almost identical to their original counterparts. They probably just meant "redesign". There isn't much to "retcon", but Mason could very easily add lore on. Considering Clawman suddenly became important enough to sing during Absent Moon, any of the old throwaway enemies could be important suddenly.
Like the idea of us possibly recruiting clawdia(maybe in that possible casino thing that was teased by chuck) and when we die, we can go one a small side quest in the afterlife looking for clawman, and since we'll be able to possibly switch out party members, clawdia can permanently leave our party and decide to stay with her father in the afterlife, and in return we could receive some powerful gesture or piece of gear. I feel it could be a pretty interesting decision for players "do you want to give up a possibly powerful party member in return for a strong all party-gesture? or keep them and maybe fight clawman or smth idk. But still good to see hylics 3 is going amazing!
Hylics has always introduced interesting and unique RPG gameplay mechanics. The best example being dying in battle actually being good, as that's how your characters get stronger. A mechanic that lets you trade off a party member would really fit in I think - it's something I've not really seen any other RPGs do. Adds replay value too.
DUUDEE! This is great! I couldn’t stay to watch the whole thing so this video REALLY helped me out. I personally may think that I notice how they used “variants” instead of “mutants”. If I had to guess, there is most likely friendly variants of Wayne out there. Maybe one friendly variation may even closely work with the player? I’m not sure, but great vid nevertheless! :)
I never thought about the concept of friendly Waynes! I suppose if the Wayne species have gained more individuality then some of them might become friendly to the main characters. They'd have the ability to choose that now.

Anyways from my perspective I don’t think Mason will keep too much from the lore given for the album songs (except for things like Pongorma’s death or Clawman status, etc…) since I believe he is aiming for a different storytelling for Hylics 3. But then again that it’s just my theory. What do you think? It will be kept like that or it will be changed somewhat drastically?
They made it clear in the stream that Absent Moon IS canonical within the Hylics universe. Chuck said "we want to capture those moments visually" (from around 2hours 23mins into the stream). So, I'm assuming that means pretty much everything in this album will inform something about the plot, lore, or characters of Hylics 3.

Of course Clawman would prefer to stay in the Afterlife! He’s a crab dude, and the Afterlife is shown to be an aquatic/beach setting.

Which is honestly fascinating, especially once I realized that the first game had a lotta quirks that make it feel like a parody of Final Fantasy IV

I can't see it releasing any time before summer 2025, but that's an optimistic estimate. Could be mid-late 2026. Entirely speculation though.
